Start Up #331: GigzX Super App - Next-Generation Errand, Service, and Freelance Tech Platform
Start Up Podcast PH · 2026-06-23 · 59 min
Substance score
16 / 100
Five dimensions, 20 points each
Roy Gono presents GigzX, a security-verified super app platform designed to address Philippines unemployment by connecting gig workers, freelancers, and service providers across multiple income streams. The platform functions as a social community where workers can offer diverse skills - from traditional freelancing to physical services like carpentry - while building verifiable profiles with ratings and certifications.
Key takeaways
- GigzX positions itself as a multi-skill platform serving freelancers, corporate professionals doing side hustles, and physical service providers (carpenters, barbers, etc.) simultaneously rather than competing in a single market segment.
- The platform revenue model relies on transaction fees from bookings, advertising, and business partnerships rather than subscription models, with plans to eventually integrate fintech services.
- Founder Roy Gono has a documented history of serial entrepreneurship across diverse industries (RTW retail, cyber cafes, insurance, logistics) providing real-world understanding of employment challenges and business operations.
- The app emphasizes security through biometric verification, facial recognition, and rating systems for both workers and customers to build trust in a gig economy context.
- GigzX aims for Philippine market validation first before scaling to Southeast Asia, with explicit government collaboration goals including partnerships with TESDA, LGUs, and DOLE.

What our scoring noted
Our reviewer’s read on each dimension, with quotes from the episode.
Insight Density
The episode is almost entirely composed of incomplete sentences, filler, and high-level platitudes about unemployment and workforce empowerment. The few substantive ideas (multi-skill profiles, bid-based pricing, AI verification) are named but never developed into anything a B2B operator could act on.
So Gigs is the is the answer can help also the economy as well. Unemployment.
It's like a social media social community. Uh, you can post.
Originality
The core concept is a well-worn combination of LinkedIn, TaskRabbit, and Fiverr reframed for the Philippine market. There is no contrarian argument, no first-principles reasoning, and the 'super app' framing is explicitly borrowed from established models. Nothing here challenges received wisdom.
I want to integrate AI as well with this
It's like uh subscription based.
Guest Caliber
Roy has a background in serial small-business entrepreneurship (RTW clothing, cyber cafes, insurance agency) and is candid about multiple failures, but the startup itself is concept-stage with no team, no funding, and no launched product. He is not a practitioner who has operated a gig or tech platform at scale.
Right now I don't have team but I have partners who will do the platform for me
I started a bus boy um for promotion for movie supervisor
Specificity & Evidence
There is virtually no concrete data: no user numbers, no market-size figures, no revenue projections, and no named competitors benchmarked against each other. The only approximation of a specific figure is a single illustrative pricing example that is immediately hedged.
1000 is the base um rate for that particular job
almost 100,000 uh
Conversational Craft
The host asks directionally relevant questions (business model, team, background) but rarely follows up when answers are vague or incomplete, and both speakers produce heavily fragmented, filler-laden exchanges. There is no productive pushback or challenging of unsubstantiated claims throughout the episode.
Um. M. Although five stars. Anyway uh, corporate um performance by your previous employers and privately.
Just to dig deeper. Unemployment problem obviously I know and gig particularly uh.

Speaker B: Welcome to Startup Podcast ph inspiring more Filipino entrepreneurs and innovators Live Tayong Ayo and Ditosawai Spaces bgc and we have a very interesting startup uh Gigs super app. And we have the founder and CEO and COO Roy Gono and hello Roy Kamasta.
Speaker C: Very very good. Uh, I'm here uh Startup Podcast ph of course, um, for giving me the opportunity as well mission vision as well for the workforce and for the economy.
Speaker B: Actually um, Google form startup where startup founders can sign up of interviews. So I wanted to share that interview. Um, anyway so you mentioned that you have actually a business then but you're starting this startup Gigs. So um. Gigs.
Speaker C: So Gigs, it's a um security verified platform. It's like a social community for workers that will give multiple income streams. Uh uh, workforce in the economy. So Gigs, we are pushing your empowerment workforce empowerment. And maybe you will gonna ask me most of the anapo most of the um Ditosa. I mean your problems of uh the Philippines ever since is unemployment. So um opportunity one opportunity to grow or if ever limited limited buying power limited m um provincial rate irregular um jobs contractual system. So Gigs is the is the answer can help also the economy as well. Unemployment.
Speaker B: Um, just to dig deeper. Unemployment problem obviously I know and gig particularly uh. Gig. So I think this is work now gig style. I think gig. Maybe you can share more about that. Just to be more specific. There's a problem startup unemployment. Exactly. Napalang kulang matalagasa trabaho ang um Filipinas or Kulang's connection or Parang kulang sa pagahanap nantrabaho anginamanyung skills Angelman talents Angelman employers. Uh, is it a supply job supply problem or a gig supply problem or a mismatch Kumbaga no connection. Uh
Speaker C: actually right now uh. Most probably connection sometimes especially if you are looking some on social media right now and then people are very skeptical in Kumbaga hiring other people as well. Um for example. But. But the problem is the demand or opportunity is especially if you are in the province most probably you will go either uh or there's no opportunity now Gigs, it's like is a platform. Ah you go there Indisha Yong mashadong. Um let's say there's a lot of platform. But if you want gyna see especially it's okay. But if I uh, say this Kumbaga LinkedIn. Most probably I can um. I can go in Facebook and look for a job. The problem is so. LinkedIn those executives and corporate jobs they go there so gigs. But the good things are gigs is I want to empower the individual. It's uh, Still filling out loan applications for your business? Yeah, thought so. Save your time. Grow your business with Credit Hero One online application gets you loan offers from multiple lenders. Apply for a business loan now. Visit credithero.com if I may add.
Speaker B: I know um, not really competitor looking for jobs. LinkedIn 1 It's now very corporate. Um, Filipino. Um, corporate. Uh. Space second um. Indeed. Indeed my job street Come to think of it, when you measure minimum wage provincial I think major bias indeed Metro Manila I think uh, less localized uh job or gig market. And I believe equality. Uh, even if. Even if you're full time work a gig, a freelance uh, a short job. Uh, yes, very true.
Speaker C: Uh, we are reducing the unemployment. So even you are outside of Metro Manila or in Metro Manila. It's the same. Delivery itself. And one thing is. E Commerce. Badge. Uh, if you are good you can also like for example um.1000 is the base um rate for that particular job or I know Gagawin you can ask for more dependion. Ah. M Rating system.
Speaker B: Uh. M. Although five stars. Anyway uh, corporate um performance by your previous employers and privately. Uh let's say carpenter carpentry employers or clients. So um. If Mero Nectar carpentry job uh.
Speaker C: You can bid for that 1000 long. That's the starting carpentero or barber. So most probably uh. You get the point. Uh, and one more thing. Sorry.
Speaker B: Uh.
Speaker C: Um. It's not about only one um. Sabina one skills. We want to help the gigs partner in what way? We want to upskill. So most probably if you have. I believe um. If I'm a barber. Shah I'm a barber. Most probably I have my own motorcycle. I can do errand as well. So another job. If I'm like um. I do um um. Composition I can do also that job. Expertise. It's like a business of yourself. It's like a business um. Kumbaga profile of yourself.
Speaker B: Ah, so you mean baba padding gigs. Because it's a super app. It's an app and profile. So singer 5 stars carpenter 5 stars
Speaker C: expertise. My certificate of course. Um. Like for examp. Like welding things or something Massage. So we need also to verify then uh, at least verified and secure partner well equipped on their field or portfolio.
Speaker B: Portfolio I believe. Um. Revolutionary dito the longest time empowering um hiring a NASA employer. Ito somehow shift to giving more power to the not really the employee m self employed day that you are offering
Speaker C: the word self employed. You. You have your own time, you have your own negotiate. You can negotiate with them. Um. Work life balance. Even um. Set up is six months. Six months probationary after that. After that, two, three, four months. Six months. Will be the bridge of that gap.
Speaker B: Just before I ask about the app Ms. Mo I know. Um. Very crisis conceptualize ito I mean. Traditional career. Uh, you can actually serve. You can actually have uh um. Gigs. Something like that.
Speaker C: Well, basically m. Um. If you are. If you are watching some big companies sometimes means um um. It start first those idea and experience it. Your experience last year. Um uh. Logistics as well. Uh
Speaker B: yeah. You have an agency.
Speaker C: Non life insurance agency. I have my own. Um.
Speaker B: Uh.
Speaker C: Um. Even I have money. I have these tools.
Speaker B: Uh.
Speaker C: Just to give you the concept how many lawyers you know? Lawyer, lawyer, lawyer. Uh,
Speaker B: I live in anoi.
Speaker C: Uh,
Speaker B: Lawyer.
Speaker C: That is how it will work.
Speaker B: Um
Speaker C: is within the community. Actually. Automatic.
Speaker B: Ah,
Speaker C: within the community. Um within the community. It's very easy for us ecosystem. Uh so Mehron even Aaron uh, even Aaron M. PWD single parents capable. That's it. That's the negotiation.
Speaker B: Um Yellow Pages.
Speaker C: Pero while.
Speaker B: Service can also check if they are legit and good in their job.
Speaker C: And also I have this system. Um, it is. Um. I want to integrate AI as well with this. So another thing. Um. Verified partners and as well customer as well my verification then verified. You cannot also service nd verified as well verified. Then my facial and um biometrics verification. Between workers and customer. Through the past experiences as well. M. So you know, anticipate Korea M Super app. Uh, and Hindisha toxic app. Super app that gives value guys. That gives value to the. I know to the apps itself. Uh, um.
Speaker B: Yes, speaking of the app, um. Ideally for let's say to Bello or let's say Carpenter Pinto Ideally um service at the same time M. Uh profile or account Carpenter. So working up my account. My account work provider and service. Uh, can you explain.
Speaker C: Okay, as I've said it. It is not a paran landing page or typical apps PA services that you need. What will happen here? It's like a social media social community. Uh, you can post. You have motivation, you can share partner. But of course partner they can also share. Uh, they can post also young daily vlogs. Ah, that's marketing. So it's. It's um. It's a sabiko non toxic social media because I want value fake news AI something so union when you work out naming M M2 to block those things More on business, more on Komita more on upskilling and also um. M. Uh um. Positive positive. Either you are a consumer or you are a gigs partner. And one more thing we want to collaborate with the government like Tesda. Um LG use as well DMW Dole this is anime. Digital backbone of the economy.
Speaker B: Uh where workforce can meet each other. I know, I know. Um so basically account whether you're a gig uh gig provider service or Nagarapa service. Yes Then you can just post if nagarapka or um if I may ask this is a startup so business model for gigs. How can gigs get revenue or a M model for that?
Speaker C: Okay, most probably um Gigs can um earn from this because of the service we will you know cut. Of course you are using the platform and we are business as well. So it's not about
Speaker B: uh
Speaker C: um. Um emergency. By booking and it depends. The only thing is you're using the platform to connect and to meet each other. And then of course next is ads of course ad revenue. Then after that is Sabihin and business partnership. Uh we are welcoming, we are welcome and um we welcome businesses as well. Um and as I've said Kanina earlier um I want it like a ecosystem um workforce. And I have a lot of plans with this one as well. Fintech super apparent um app
Speaker B: social ecosystem. Facebook for example or LinkedIn free LinkedIn or Facebook model.
Speaker C: It's like uh subscription based.
Speaker B: It's like a marketplace inconvenience fees among uh online marketplace. Now when you do the transaction inside champra meron part you use the app to connect and to get revenue. So but on my part dapat or ideally
Speaker C: because you're using the technology so it must be sustainable. But I've said ah value technology as well how much but if it solved problems or kumbaga um income streams. So I think. Of course we are studying it but the only thing um that's why um I want to talk uh with podcast with um uh uh um tech event because I want nama notice and people hope that you support this one. Um it is very scalable but if this one works here in the Philippines um actually my push here going to sea and also Southeast Asia as well. Uh unemployment.
Speaker B: Ah speaking of tech events that you may want to join events actually on startup podcast we hold quarterly events. It's called startup Meetups. So we'll invite you as well. Um just to be clear ah picture when I first saw the name gigs freelancers virtual assistants online I believe you are positioning this um.
Speaker C: Um.
Speaker B: I see distinction first freelancing. Second young corporate LinkedIn um third yung manga smaller physical gigs like carpentry if ever so and possibly by my segmentation or halo Halo how do you see that?
Speaker C: Typically um. In every industry. It's like it's up to you um Income union push Dito in one person or kayamung um Ibigai Nai renter in a service the better for you buying power if uh economy um M income. Professional same habit. Like bgc. On how you will market yourself because it's the same thing so setting in pagan profile to market yourself. Um. For example.
Speaker B: Uh uh. Uh yeah so basically uh LinkedIn market um. Diploma so I think diploma certifications and how you market yourself in your different skills or jobs
Speaker C: uh in addition um sir. Um.
Speaker B: Uh.
Speaker C: Ah but sometimes diploma especially PRC license even civil engineer. Uh. In what way Kung Ako is corporate working. I can do side hustle with this. So instead law firm or um. Architectural firm or construction firm which is you can bargain here so you can use that one as well. I'm just changing the setup of the workforce sometimes um.
Speaker B: Trending
Speaker C: sometimes. So we are willing to pay another wedding gigs partner. Um. I can do pickleball. That's the change.
Speaker B: This is the trend M uh, yes.
Speaker C: Even in basketball. Basketball even you are uh. 18 years old basketball you can within your homecoming teammates of basketball. This is my rate. Uh, another opportunity. Uh.
Speaker D: In today's digital world your organization needs more than just technology. It needs a strategic partner. At SYNF we we build web and mobile apps that drive innovation for startups, enterprises and organizations worldwide. Visit Symf Co today Trust the digital future with Twala secure and tamper proof digital signature electronic notarization service and custom AI agents for intelligent document workflows. Speaker B: Um super effective basketball. Uh market as extra semester
Speaker C: I don't know the exact freelancer. Uh before then I was. I dreamed to become a basketball player opportunity uh so pba my MPBL people who loves basketball but they are earning Honda basketball player you can put basketball companionship.
Speaker B: So it's breaking away from traditional work and m possibly create more jobs or gigs which is actually revolutionary if mapul of um I want to ask Roy about more about you um. I mean for those who are listening um. So can you share a bit more of your background you said but specifically. This one is totally new revolutionary um somehow so Bhagat Morena decide. To start the startup Kumbaga okay first
Speaker C: and foremost um, businessman as a businessman
Speaker B: ever since no no, no.
Speaker C: I I worked before when I know when I graduated in in Bicol University of St. Anthony so I'm a management uh graduate so But I don't. I know I don't grow. Opportunity wise M. It's a Century park hotel. Oh and then that time hiring that was 2004 or 2005 if I'm not mistaken Hiring um passenger cruise line M Union booming non cruising industry uh it's an Italian and a passenger cruise line
Speaker B: um
Speaker C: Corona opening Don job hiring Natanga true to on Peron business. 20132025 to 2013 early in ano in the uh in maxaisay. So I have a lot of businesses I started in rtw we have four branches among Madrid
Speaker B: what's rtw?
Speaker C: Um ready to wear.
Speaker B: Uh,
Speaker C: That's my failure the Naluge. Um I'm the first one to vlog. Shout out SP game form SP which is big big um vloggers. But I don't gamble. 20142015 okay yeah uh, almost 100,000 uh
Speaker B: subscribers M.
Speaker C: Even um Facebook I have my channel. Click it is start up social media because I want. Kickstart, read the fridge things like that. Ah uh. I'm not ready for it so. Restriction I will make my own um social media. Nalugi RTW cyber cafe Internet cyber cafe
Speaker B: 4 branches manila or manila city uh
Speaker C: branches was a second quezon city and afternoon uh uh.
Speaker B: Uh this is good. This is actually super perfect for gigs skills and maybe other corporate uh cannot see that the value in that corporate ladder perfect and I believe so you are also sharing uh uh M.
Speaker C: But to tell you. I started a bus boy um for promotion for movie supervisor. So m pandemic um. Portal you can check also
Speaker B: uh and
Speaker C: you can see all of our branches. I learned a lot business tapas Ethan and M then don't time lion give us a pandemic. Master agent which is I am not M. Um but you cannot survive on lotto. Uh so I have 3 m
Speaker B: m.
Speaker C: It's not for me. Uh. Uh. Uh. Contract. That's time artery logistics solutions. So uh
Speaker B: m.
Speaker C: M unit owners. M. So basically. Nature spring. M and then. Insurance.
Speaker B: So then my m insurance
Speaker C: this is the journey from failures to serial entrepreneur Most probably cassette. Um. Ah. Life is too short guys. Uh. M. I don't have any idea.
Speaker B: Um.
Speaker C: Uh. Insurance company and that's how become a young guard. He gave me the idea we need to make a claim. I forgot the name.
Speaker B: Uh,
Speaker C: Branch. Um, marketing head company name which is shout out Alpha Alpine Insurance partner Capital One Insurance. And then uh. I'm a license non life insurance. Um. Executive agency going to gigs now. So. Um. Actually. Um. Another advice. I'm not that successful. Uh. Is a business at least. I pay millions.
Speaker B: At least to be fair invaluable learnings. Not many people learn that way through failed businesses. And actually um. Anyway I'm curious now Business. Uh. Per business. I mean pera. I mean or freedom Then why. Why business?
Speaker C: Okay, basically um. If you're working even high paying jobs, it will uplift your lifestyle. My progress lifestyle more. But if you want freedom, if you want kumbaga um. If you want control, uh. It can only uplift your life. But Angan. Um. I'm not saying. And. Learning stage perobaho uh
Speaker B: per se but I know provider so self employed service skill for others. Anyway um. So now okay gigs no um. Do you have a team? Founding team then working with this and develop your app. Uh.
Speaker C: Okay. Okay. Right now very simple. I have no money actually to fund. It's in huge amount of capital. So what I did discard m my diploma. Uh. Ah. Even you don't have that much capital. So leveraging as one network and then negotiation. Right now I don't have team but I have partners who will do the platform for me. And um. Last week. I know last two days we have a second meeting. Um um. Formality and then. Um. Alignment. Um. You're testing the water. Um. M. Um I negotiate shout outs to m web solution. Um. Technology information. They are the one now um. Um. More on marketing chairman CEO CEO. As of the moment I have full control. No, Right now it's okay. Two heads are better than one Pero. Sometimes there is always an exemption of that day progress. So unlike from Saakin going to developer and then. Most probably hands on even I'm not the cto in aral current paramagi cto. Uh. And then I hope you guys you support it. This is the time fundings will come after
Speaker B: um.
Speaker C: You give value first. You give value first after. It's easy. It's easy to sell a product. It's very hard.

Speaker B: Um after launch or if it's okay to share strategy
Speaker C: most probably that is a secret. Of course um. Marketing will play a big role on the marketing side because even we have a good product even in sales if even you have a good product. Um. I'm doing vlogs as well. Actually MVP stage M and we are looking for M then from to on to Louis to Loin. So um marketing will play a big role. Even we have a perfect Sabina Nothing perfect. Not perfect yet if the marketing fail M. Um.
Speaker B: Final question. Um. Actually yeah yeah. Um what is the vision? I know feeling drive more very strong to do something.
Speaker C: So uh.
Speaker B: First actually I also want to ask you what drives you and second you mentioned um for sure evolution features or whatever. So Hangasa and mo gustong dalihenta laga
Speaker C: kumbaga sigs actually um um. It is made by all Filipino for the Filipino but scalably globally Yunang push globally and then integrate into fintech as well. Um then from. From that point that's the time we need to adapt it. So I cannot give you the bigger picture Papaya right now that's. That's big for me. So most probably it's a big plus Nayani this then um which is another business. Um because of the industry and the market share m Fintech and another thing. Um uh um. Businesses. More unfolding because they have the funds and capability of a given established um from start up. So that's a pride as well. And Sabina nothing legacy. Um life is too short. Um.
Speaker B: Legacy legacy.
Speaker C: And then generation through generation through generation. Actually for. For the whole Filipino. Uh Filipinos generation. Establish nothing benefit.
Speaker B: M.
