Growing Forward ranks #902 on The B2B Podcast Index with a substance score of 73.0 out of 100, scored across 1 recent episode. It scores highest on specificity & evidence and guest caliber. The episode is a relative strength on specificity - budget figures, channel spend, follower counts, contractor counts, stipend amounts, and acquisition timing are all cited concretely, giving listeners real benchmarks rather than vague frameworks.
Averaged across 1 recently scored episode, with cited evidence.
The episode contains genuine operational insights around overseas contractor models, AI-tool subsidization, and incentive-alignment critique of agencies, but large portions are consumed by sponsor reads, anecdotes, and meandering back-and-forth that dilutes the idea-per-minute ratio significantly.
“we were using Nigerian doctors to help do content, which that's a five minute discussion. But nobody was using overseas doctors in ChatGPT to write content at that point”
“if you have a African or Southeast Asian developer who wants to learn cloud code, it costs 200amonth for Claude Code max. They most likely make anywhere from 1500 to $3000. So that Cloud Code Max subscription makes up 10% of their entire monthly take home”
The AI-tool subsidization angle and using overseas doctors for content are genuinely fresh ideas, but most of the overseas hiring playbook is well-trodden, the agency critique is one of the most recycled takes in B2B marketing, and the closing 'what you loved at 12-16' advice is purely generic.
“I spent hours playing with Google VO3 and it was my favorite thing I used all of last year. So then I ended up building a cohort of 10 video editors from Nigeria. And I paid, I gave them all a thousand dollars a month in Google credits to just literally learn AI video editing”
“if the contractor does a bad job, they lose their job. Right? Whereas if the agency client turns, the contractor doesn't lose their job”
Philip is a legitimate practitioner who ran a real $7M growth budget, managed a 25-person overseas contractor team, and drove a company to acquisition - solid operator credentials. However, the episode doubles as a promotional vehicle for his current business Hire Overseas, introducing notable bias, and the underlying company operated at a relatively modest scale (low eight figures revenue, series A).
“I inherited roughly a $7 million a year budget. Seven or nine. We were doing low eight figures in revenue and an 11 person team”
“RUPA Health got acquired in October 2024”
The episode is a relative strength on specificity - budget figures, channel spend, follower counts, contractor counts, stipend amounts, and acquisition timing are all cited concretely, giving listeners real benchmarks rather than vague frameworks.
“we spent $3 million a year in conferences, we spent $50,000 a month on SEO. We had a podcast that got 50,000 downloads per month. We did $2 million a year in online course sales”
“that tweet got. Went viral and I think got like 200 viral for tech. Twitter went. Got like 250,000 views. And I ended up setting up 60 calls”
The host asks directionally reasonable questions but rarely follows up with genuine pressure or challenges any claim; several questions are self-serving plugs for his own coaching practice, and the conversation is broken up by multiple sponsor reads and closes with an irrelevant 'My First Million' tangent that adds nothing.
“And what did you think was the thing for you as the person leading this capability that you needed to work on most to be successful? Like, part of that is probably stuff we worked on, and then part of that is stuff outside of what we worked on”
“Can you clarify what you mean by that?”
