Ways to Change the Workplace with Prina Shah ranks #3834 on The B2B Podcast Index with a substance score of 57.0 out of 100, scored across 1 recent episode. It scores highest on insight density and specificity & evidence. There are a handful of genuine data points (Gallup engagement figures, generational career-development survey splits) and one genuinely interesting observation about boredom and critical thinking atrophy, but the episode is padded heavily with mutual affirmation, self-promotion, and obvious platitudes about purpose and values that dilute the useful-ideas-per-minute ratio considerably.
Averaged across 1 recently scored episode, with cited evidence.
“when we get bored, we solve the world's problems. But if we're never bored because we're scrolling through, we're never developing that skill”
“Boomers was 32%. So if your leader is a boomer, the concept of having that discussion is barely on their radar”
The reframe of boomer-led organisations as a product nobody will want in nine years is a mildly fresh angle, but the bulk of the content - psychological contracts, values alignment, soft-skills-are-actually-hard, purpose-finding - is thoroughly recycled HR consulting material with no contrarian or first-principles tension.
“If you were developing a product and bringing it to market that you knew that nobody would want in nine years, you'd reconsider your position”
“part of it's around the language calling it soft skills. Really like the soft skills are bloody hard”
Simone Pickering is a working regional consultant with genuine on-the-ground exposure to small-town leadership gaps and a concrete program (Lead Local) to point to, but she is a trainer-consultant rather than an operator who has built or scaled an organisation, which limits the depth of practitioner authority on offer.
“Regional Development Australia Goldfields Esperance has launched this year...a program or an initiative called Lead Local which is really looking at building the capability of business leaders”
“I'm delivering some of those workshops there”
The Gallup engagement statistics and the generational career-development survey split (32% Boomers vs ~60% younger cohorts) are genuine named data points, but client examples are anonymised and vague ('one team I've worked with'), proposed interventions are described only in broad strokes, and the book reference is more self-promotion than evidence.
“it sits between 20 and 23% for Australia. So that's less than a quarter of people turning up to work every day engaged”
“Boomers was 32%...Gen Z and Gen Y sort of sat at around 60% important to me”
The host and guest operate in a mutual validation mode throughout - the host frequently answers her own questions, self-promotes her book and client work mid-episode, and never pushes back on an unchallenged claim; the closest thing to a probe is 'Do you think it's generational?' which the guest immediately deflects back and the host answers herself.
“What are we missing at that leadership level? So I've worked with some regional small town brilliant organisations...I'm going to answer that question”
“Do you think it's generational? Yes. I'm nodding my head politely. Yes, it is”
