This episode addresses the common struggle of creative burnout and uninspired periods that plague content creators and business owners, especially during busy seasons like the holidays. Katie explores why forcing creativity backfires and outlines a three-part framework for reclaiming productivity without sacrificing mental health. The core insight is that creativity can't be forced - it requires rest, realistic expectations, and proper time management. She discusses practical tactics like creating minimal daily task lists, using reward systems (gaming, TV, lunch dates) to maintain discipline, and knowing when to pivot to less creative work rather than staring at a blank page. This episode will resonate with solopreneurs and women business owners struggling with content creation, WordPress-based websites, and organic marketing who feel pressure to produce constantly. The advice is grounded in personal experience managing multiple competing demands and understanding the difference between laziness and genuine burnout.

Key takeaways

  • →Stop creating unrealistic daily task lists with excessive content creation requirements, as overloading yourself kills creativity rather than forcing it.
  • →When facing creative block, take a strategic break and switch to lower-cognitive tasks like keyword research or content updates instead of forcing new writing.
  • →Schedule permanent, non-negotiable days off and set firm work hour boundaries (like 7am-3pm) to prevent burnout and protect your creative capacity.
  • →Use personal reward systems tied to completing minimal daily tasks to build discipline without resentment.
  • →Recognize the difference between a creative dry season and laziness - sometimes your purpose and calling are still valid even when motivation temporarily disappears.

Questions this episode answers

What should you do when you sit down to write content but nothing comes to mind?

Don't waste time staring at a blank page. Take an hour-long break to refresh your mind, then switch to a less creatively demanding task like keyword research or updating existing content before returning to writing.

How can you prevent creative burnout when starting a new business?

Set non-negotiable days off, establish firm work hour boundaries (like working only 7am-3pm), keep your daily task list minimal based on your actual capacity, and prioritize personal time over trying to do everything at once.

Why does creating a large task list actually make you less productive?

Overloading yourself with too many tasks creates pressure that kills creativity, makes work feel forced and like a chore, and leads to loss of motivation even for work you originally loved.

What's a simple reward system that helps with content creation discipline?

Tie personal rewards (gaming, TV binging, lunch with friends) to completing your minimal daily task list - only allow yourself to enjoy these activities if you finished your scheduled work.

Insight Density

3 / 20

The entire 12-minute episode delivers three tips - stop overloading your task list, take a break, and schedule days off - all of which are self-evident platitudes. There is no novel, non-obvious claim for any B2B operator to act on; the runtime is dominated by personal narrative filler and repeated restatements of the same obvious point.

The second thing is take a break.
the third is to schedule days off And this might sound extremely obvious but it has to be said

Originality

2 / 20

Every idea in this episode is a recycled productivity cliché that has appeared in countless blog posts since 2010. There is no contrarian framing, no first-principles reasoning, and no attempt to challenge conventional wisdom about creativity or content creation.

the third is to schedule days off And this might sound extremely obvious but it has to be said
take a break, take an hour, make something to eat, read a book

Guest Caliber

2 / 20

This is a solo monologue episode with no guest whatsoever; the host self-describes as a mompreneur marketing mentor with no demonstrated track record of operating a B2B business at scale, making this irrelevant by caliber standards for a B2B audience.

Hey, I'm Katie, wife, blessed boy mom to two of the funniest kiddos, Jesus lover, marketing mentor, and tech nerd.

Specificity & Evidence

2 / 20

There are no named companies, no metrics, no data, and no research cited anywhere in the episode. The only concrete detail offered is a personal anecdote about withholding video games as a self-reward, which is not evidence of anything actionable for a business operator.

the deal I made with myself is if I don't get a set task list done for myself the day those tasks are due, and my daily task list is pretty minimal, it's not a crazy obscene amount of tasks, then I don't get to play games.

Conversational Craft

2 / 20

This is an unstructured solo monologue with no interviewing, no follow-up questions, and no pushback on any claim. The delivery is meandering and repetitive, restating the same points multiple times without adding depth or probing complexity.

I hope you enjoy today's episode and I will meet you back here next week.
So if you start feeling forced to sit down and write out some content, research keywords or plan future content, and you just can't focus and feel so uninspired, take a break and don't put pressure on yourself to get creative.

I don't know about you, but there are times when unfortunate stressful situations come up and just stomp all over your flow of creativity or at the very least you're just finding yourself in this creative plateau when your creativity has just kind of dried up and you've tried all the things to get your creativity flowing again and just nothing seems to work. And maybe you even start to question what you're really doing is what you really should be doing. And it almost feels like it's forced rather than things just coming to you naturally.

So you might find it hard to focus on writing and planning content. And you might even find it hard to sit and complete even the most simplest of tasks, especially during the holidays when you have all this stuff to think about like possible travel plans, dinner plans, gift shopping, creativity and inspiration just kind of takes a backseat with so many other things on your mind in that moment. So today I'm sharing three ways to get over your creativity slump and how to get inspired again so you can continue to show up for your business and work with your creativity flowing.

Let's jump in. Welcome to the Simple Content Marketing from Mompreneurs podcast. Are you tired of feeling overwhelmed and intimidated by SEO? Do you want to grow your online business visibility and drive traffic to your offers organically, but you're not getting found in search results?

Are you spending loads of time Googling things like how to find the right keywords or how to increase website traffic using Google? I totally get it. Hey, I'm Katie, wife, blessed boy mom to two of the funniest kiddos, Jesus lover, marketing mentor, and tech nerd. I struggled to grow my online business because I thought SEO was just way too time consuming and overwhelming.

I thought you needed a team of marketing experts and had to be an SEO guru to get seen on page one of search results. I learned that SEO and keyword strategy is not as complicated as some SEO experts make it out to be. And I am sharing those simple strategies that I learned with you right here on this podcast. So close your browser, reheat your coffee, and let's grow your business together with simple SEO keywords and content marketing, along with some Holy Spirit and scripture-based encouragement.

Do you want to grow your visibility in search results, convert website traffic into sales, and be found for the keywords you want to be known for? I have a community for online business owners and bloggers who are learning how to use simple SEO, keywords, and create a flexible marketing strategy to grow their online business in less time In the group we have weekly accountability Mondays threads for you to get feedback on your SEO strategy and so much more friend. ly slash business growth community. There are a lot of times when, whether it be because of circumstances or motivation that I just start to feel very uninspired and things just start feeling very forced and feel more like a chore rather than running a business or doing house chores. I mean, you can pretty much make yourself feel however you want to be able about, however you want to feel about certain things. But when you feel very unmotivated to continue with something that used to light you up, you really start to question like, is this really my purpose?

Or is this just my fleshy, selfish decision to have this business? Or am I still anointed for it and I'm just having a dry season? When I have these seasons, it's hard for me to focus. The hardest part for me to focus is on writing and creating content when I have these moments.

So if you're stuck and you feel like I can't think of any kind of content to create, it's not because if you, you created everything for content and there's nothing left, it's because of your, you're lacking creativity. But if you aren't doing anything creative, you aren't going to be creative. If you're spending more time creating an ongoing list for yourself of what you need to create and over expecting of yourself to create a massive amount of content, you're going to lose your creativity.

So the first step is to stop tacking on obscene amounts of tasks daily and even weekly. This has been very difficult for me to do because usually when I start working on something, I can't stop and save my work on that one task and move on to the next. And when I get started, I usually don't want to stop working on that thing until it's just completely done. While it's good to have that kind of motivation, it's also bad because time management is so important to learn.

So you're not spending all of your available time on one single task. When it's your business, learning how to balance tasks and operate at a productive level is very critical to learn. So the first thing that we need to do is to stop pressuring yourself to write and create content. You can't force creativity.

And you really need to stop overexpecting yourself to crunch everything in all in one day to have things done. You can't meet unrealistic expectations like that. So you need to be honest about the time that you do have and what your schedule actually looks like. So create a daily schedule and stick to it Another reason why we start to get so unmotivated and uninspired is because we tend to go all in when something is new And I get it because I I done this many times and you have to, you really have to set boundaries for yourself.

So if you decide, okay, I'm going to work from 7am to 7, 3pm, then you really need to stick to that no matter what. if you chain yourself to your computer because of your list of all the things, of course you're going to get tired. You need to give your mind a break. And something else I've done is, and it also, it sounds pretty corny.

I reward myself if I get my tasks done. So for example, we're kind of a gaming family, more of my kids and my husband than I am. And they play to be competitive and I play more for fun. So the deal I made with myself is if I don't get a set task list done for myself the day those tasks are due, and my daily task list is pretty minimal, it's not a crazy obscene amount of tasks, then I don't get to play games.

And I know it sounds very silly, but this works for me, so I do it. So maybe you don't play games, but maybe you have a favorite TV show you like to binge or you like to go out on lunch dates with your biz besties. Whatever your rewarding system might look like for you, try it and see if it works. The second thing is take a break.

If you get caught up with the intention that you were going to prioritize content writing and you got your coffee ready and you sat down to work and you looked at your workflow and opened up your Google Doc and nothing is coming to mind and your mind feels all cloudy and you literally cannot think of anything to write and the blinking cursor is just taunting you. One thing is don't continue to sit there and waste time staring at the cursor. If you are uninspired completely, take a break, take an hour, make something to eat, read a book, or at the very least close out that tab and open something else that you can work on that does not require you to sit and write from scratch.

You can go update some old content with updated keywords or do some keyword research for future content. Find a task that you can do that doesn't require heavy thinking. If this is like a regular occurrence, because sometimes we can get completely unmotivated to do anything. So sometimes it's really hard to complete certain things.

The best thing that you can do is if you know you can sit and write and it's just a matter of discipline and putting that thing first on your list and getting it done so you can focus on other tasks for that day is really important And the third is to schedule days off And this might sound extremely obvious but it has to be said And I don know who needs this reminder but somebody does I did this when I started. I know how excited you are starting a new business or working on your business, but to avoid burnout.

And you will experience burnout even if you're excited to do all the things, but you have to still take time for yourself and not become a workhorse. there will be times when you're going to have to put in some extra hours when you don't want to and there are going to be times when you have to do more work than you had planned so the worst thing that you can do is right away dedicate too much time and too much work and not enough personal time for yourself self-discipline is going to have to really be put to work here you really get to decide what hours you work and what is non-negotiable but pick a couple of days to regularly take off and make it non-negotiable unless you had to move some things around and take different days off.

You need a couple of permanent days in there. The most important thing to remember is you are responsible for your workload, your schedule, and your time off and your self-care. If you are someone who gets easily overwhelmed with a workload of more than a few tasks, keep your daily task list minimal. It's a matter of listening to what you need and what capacity you can work in.

So if you start feeling forced to sit down and write out some content, research keywords or plan future content, and you just can't focus and feel so uninspired, take a break and don't put pressure on yourself to get creative. Take an hour. Focus on another task that doesn't take as much creativity. get that done and then go back to your writing piece and see how you feel then.
