Tory Archbold's solo episode explores the concept of self-belief as a competitive advantage in entrepreneurship, drawing from her recent LA experience. She introduces the 45 Second Rule, a framework with three core components: believing your abilities grow through effort, visualizing success before it happens, and treating yourself with kindness rather than self-criticism. The episode illustrates how she reframed a weather-related setback - canceling a trip to Santa Barbara - into opportunity by connecting with podcast guests, emphasizing that setbacks are redirection rather than failure. Archbold discusses how backing yourself attracts alignment with like-minded people and creates opportunities, citing her collaboration with Shelley Zalas on the Female Quotient event in Australia. She emphasizes that personal branding isn't transactional but rooted in the energy you bring and how you show up. The episode concludes with a testimonial from Simone Clow, a tech leader who transformed from hiding behind the scenes to becoming a LinkedIn Top Voice after joining Archbold's Powerful Steps program, demonstrating the tangible impact of community and frameworks on career trajectories.

Key takeaways

  • →The 45 Second Rule - making key decisions within 45 seconds by embracing growth mindset, visualizing success, and practicing self-compassion - enables you to flow rather than conflict when facing challenges.
  • →Personal branding is fundamentally about the energy and presence you bring, not what you sell; backing yourself makes your brand magnetic and influences whether people say yes when you call.
  • →Setbacks and unexpected obstacles should be reframed as redirection opportunities to pivot into higher-vibration activities rather than spiral into self-criticism.
  • →Aligning your energy with driven, supportive, and challenging people directly shifts your own energy and creates more opportunities for growth and collaboration.
  • →Community and shared frameworks are as critical as individual effort; leaders like Simone Clow transformed from scared and invisible to stage-speakers and LinkedIn influencers through structured support.

Questions this episode answers

What is the 45 Second Rule and how do you apply it when facing a challenge?

The 45 Second Rule is a framework to shift into a success mindset within 45 seconds by: (1) believing your abilities grow with effort and viewing challenges as learning opportunities, (2) visualizing success before it happens through mental rehearsal, and (3) treating yourself with kindness rather than becoming your harshest critic. Tory used it when flights were cancelled due to LA storms, visualizing new connections instead of dwelling on disappointment.

How does Tory Archbold define backing yourself in business?

Backing yourself means trusting in your abilities, knowing your worth, pushing through doubts, and owning your vision despite obstacles. It's about taking small steps that become powerful steps, creating alignment in life and business so things flow in unexpected ways.

What is Tory Archbold's affirmation practice and why does she avoid making it personal?

Tory's affirmation is "I will have a hundred million dollars in the bank to empower female leaders around the world." She intentionally sets the bar high but frames it around collective impact rather than personal gain, so the mantra motivates action toward a larger vision that benefits others.

What is the Powerful Steps program and what results has it delivered?

Powerful Steps by Tory Archbold is a Business Attraction program that combines frameworks, community, mentorship, and collaboration. Participant Simone Clow went from having an invisible digital presence and fear of public speaking to becoming a LinkedIn Top Voice and stage speaker at events like SXSW, after joining the program.

What is the Business Activation Retreat in West Hollywood and who should attend?

The second Business Activation Retreat runs May 5 - 7 in West Hollywood with 20 - 30 women only (10 VIP spots shooting in a private home). Attendees connect with magnetic leaders, learn about tech and personal branding, meet top journalists and private equity leaders, and network with other female founders and leaders.

Insight Density

3 / 20

The episode is almost entirely motivational platitudes and self-help clichés - growth mindset, visualisation, affirmations - dressed up as a proprietary framework. There is no novel, non-obvious business insight across the full 12 minutes; the 'framework' offered would not teach a B2B operator anything they haven't heard a hundred times.

within 45 seconds, please believe that your abilities can grow with a lot of effort. Instead of seeing challenges as roadblocks, view them as opportunities to learn and evolve
a step back is actually redirection

Originality

2 / 20

Every idea here - growth mindset, visualisation, self-compassion, personal brand as magnetic, affirmations - is straight from the mainstream self-help canon. The '45 second rule' is branded but contains zero counterintuitive or first-principles thinking; it repackages widely circulated concepts without adding any new angle.

It's called the 45 second second rule, and it allows you to lean into flow rather than conflict by making key decisions within a 45 second timeframe
I will have a hundred million dollars in the bank to empower female leaders around the world

Guest Caliber

2 / 20

This is a solo monologue by the host; there are no guests at all. The host is a coaching and community business operator and the only practitioner voice is a single testimonial read aloud from a community member, which does not substitute for a genuine expert interview.

My name is Tori Archbold, and I am so excited to have you here with me today as I dive into some powerful insights from the last 48 hours I've spent in Los Angeles
This is a testimonial from one of the women in our group called Simone Clow

Specificity & Evidence

4 / 20

The episode contains almost no business data, metrics, or case studies; the handful of concrete details are logistical self-promotion (retreat dates, attendee cap, a Mindvalley crowd estimate) rather than evidence for any claim. The testimonial offers qualitative before/after but no measurable outcomes.

I'm creating my second business activation retreat in West Hollywood. From the 5th to the 7th of May

Conversational Craft

2 / 20

As a solo monologue there is no interviewing craft whatsoever - no questions, no follow-ups, no pushback. The episode functions primarily as a promotional vehicle for the host's book, retreat, and community app, with no intellectual challenge or dialogue present.

Speaker A: Foreign welcome to another episode of the Powerful Stories podcast. My name is Tori Archbold, and I am so excited to have you here with me today as I dive into some powerful insights from the last 48 hours I've spent in Los Angeles. I have walked over 30,000 steps, leaning into the absolute heartbeat of West Hollywood and, um, Beverly Hills. I've leaned in, I've listened, I've learned, I've coffee dated with women who I've interviewed on my podcast who are based from around the world who, uh, happen to be here at the same time as me. And I've also learned new and exciting ways to lean into my personal power while attending the birthday party of my very dear friend Marie diamond, who spoke at our business Activation retreat in Santa Monica last year, and who I had the absolute pleasure of watching captivate a crowd of 5,000 at the Mindvalley Future Human event in Dubai last month, where I gained the most incredible insights on the power of our voice and AI. Now, I wanted to talk about something that's been a huge focus for me recently, backing yourself in business. Over the years, I've seen so many entrepreneurs and leaders hesitate because they're waiting for permission, they're waiting for validation, or just the perfect moment. But here's the truth. You've just got to back yourself. There is no perfect moment. It's the number one reason why I wrote a topic. It's the number one reason why I wrote my book, Self Belief Is yous Superpower, which you can download on Audible. Because I believe that when you take a small step, it becomes a powerful step and you back yourself in absolutely anything in life. Now, backing yourself means trusting in your abilities, knowing your worth, and pushing through those doubts, which, of course, we all have at various stages of our life and career. When you do this, you create alignment in your life and business, and things start to flow in ways you never thought possible. It's all about owning your vision, putting in the hard work no matter what the obstacles are. I also wanted to share my personal framework for how to believe in yourself, because it's called the 45 second rule and it allows you to flow rather than. I also wanted to share my personal framework for how to back yourself, how to believe in yourself, how to come into alignment and attract flow in your life. It's called the 45 second second rule, and it allows you to lean into flow rather than conflict by making key decisions within a 45 second timeframe. Now, when you face a challenge, I'd like you to think about these three Steps that I'm actually going to share with you right now to shift your focus into a success mindset. Because they're going to be three things that you might struggle with. Three different emotions, but also there are three different ways in which you can step in and own your personal power. Number one, within 45 seconds, please believe that your abilities can grow with a lot of effort. Instead of seeing challenges as roadblocks, view them as opportunities to learn and evolve. Every setback is a step forward towards our future growth. So when you actually embrace those challenges and you lean into those uncomfortable moments, you are actually celebrating yourself and you're celebrating those small, powerful steps that you take. The second rule that I have within this 45 second time frame is I always like to see my success before it happens. Which means that if, if I'm facing a challenge or a struggle or I'm at a crossroads, I start using a visualization process to mentally rehearse my goals and remind myself of why I'm here. So within 45 seconds, I'll give you an example. I flew into LA in the wildest storm. It was rocky. And when I came here, that were mudslides, streets were flooding. I was due to drive up to see one of my best friends in Santa Barbara and we both spoke and we said, within 45 seconds, this is not going to work. You're going to be stuck on the 101 for such a long time. Let's reframe our thinking, see each other later on in the week, hit pause and visualize what the next 48 hours for both of us looks like. So what I did was I started saying to myself, okay, I'm going to be in LA for the weekend. What does that look like? Who do I want to connect with? What do I want to do? So the first thing I wanted to do was get my body moving, which is why I did the 30,000 steps. The second thing I wanted to do was connect with other like minded women. So I started reaching out to people who had appeared on my podcast and told them, hey, look, I'm in LA for the weekend. Do you want to meet for coffee? It was an absolute yes. I'd visualize the different people that I wanted to connect with and I'd also visualize a really happy, healthy version of myself stepping in to an incredible amount of meetings that I worked so hard to secure, uh, this week in Los Angeles. In addition to that, I also said to myself, tori, set the bar high. What is your affirmation for this trip? What does your future self look like. And each and every day that I've been here, morning and night, in my shower ritual, in which, if you guys know me and have listened to me before, you'll know is this. I always travel with lavender oil. And I inhale and exhale deeply into my mind, body and spirit in the morning and the evening shower. And I let the secret whispers of life come over me. What I've actually done now is I've leveled up this practice with an affirmation that says, I will have a hundred million dollars in the paint to empower female leaders around the world. Let me repeat that. I will have a hundred million dollars in the bank to empower female leaders around the world. Now, see how my affirmation aims Extremely high. But I don't actually make it about me. I make it about us. You and I, listening to this podcast right now. The reason why I want to raise that amount of money is so that I can help you and millions of other women around the world to claim their power. Now, these types of mantras will keep you not only motivated and focused, they will allow you to start seeing the bigger picture, even when things seem and feel tough. Now, the third, uh, the third thing I do for the 45 second rule is pretty simple. I don't become my harshest critic. I treat myself with kindness, such as, oh, well, this has happened. I was so looking forward to seeing my girlfriend in Santa Barbara. I even bought us matching pajamas from Papinelli in Sydney. And I really visualized this amazing weekend together. But then I just thought to myself, you know what? This is not gonna happen. It's a bit of a setback. But like I said before, what I used was a setback to actually propel me forward in new and exciting ways by connecting with other people and treating myself to some time on my own. Because we are all worthy of flow, alignment and success. And a step back is actually redirection. If you really wanna know the honest truth. You can't say, poor me, this happened. I was really looking forward to it. Use that space that's been created for you to step into something more powerful. Use your energy so that you actually land in a much higher vibration and can attract more success in life. Now, I'd like to move on from this part of the conversation and share some of the really exciting takeaways that I've learned just from being here in LA and not going to Santa Barbara, because it definitely has been full of connection, inspiration and growth. I want to talk about the power of alignment because when you actually, uh, align and place your energy with people who are driven, supportive and challenging, you should be better people. Your own energy shifts. Secondly, I want to talk about how to create opportunities. I've got an incredible meeting with Shelley Zalas we're collaborating with for her first female quotient event in Australia. She's partnering with my business. Powerful steps, because guess what, we're aligning ourselves to unlock many more doors for other successful female leaders or females that might feel a little bit stuck and just want to be in the room to exchange ideas, connect and feel valued and worthy of what they want to step into. Now, that is actually the third thing is personal branding. In la, the conversations seem to always come back to your personal brand. It's not about what you sell or what's on offer. It's actually about who you are. It's about the energy you bring to the table and the ability for you to call someone and someone to say yes, which is how you communicate your M message. And of course, the way you show up. Because the way you show up shapes your brand. And let's talk about it. When you back yourself, your brand becomes truly magnetic. Now, this is the perfect lead into why I'm really excited to be here. I'm creating my second business activation retreat in West Hollywood. From the 5th to the 7th of May. You can find more details about how to become involved. There's 20 to 30 women only. I say 20 to 30 because 10 of these will be VIPs, where we're actually going to be shooting them in a private home in West Hollywood. If you want to be one of those women, definitely tick VIP at the checkout on my website. But for the other 20 women, you, uh, are so in the room with the most incredible magnetic leaders. I know we'll be diving into tech, personal branding, of course, and, um, building meaningful connections with top journalists from leading networks around the world and a whole lot of private equity leaders that are going to be talking to you about how to scale your business. For sale. Now, I wanted to share just before I sign off on this podcast today, because I am assuming that a lot of you are listening to this on your way to work in the car, on a road trip, or like me, power walking and getting, getting in those 10,000 plus steps per day. This is a testimonial from one of the women in our group called Simone Clow. She is the most incredible tech leader, a topped LinkedIn voice and a woman who claimed her power through our community. She gave me this incredible testimonial and I'm sharing it with you today because I believe that we all need to start somewhere and we need to back ourselves. We need to lean into the power of community, but also lean into the power of the frameworks that we share in our Powerful Steps community to help women like you rise. So here it is. When I joined the Powerful Steps by Tori Archbold Business Attraction program, I had already changed my career at 50, leaving the film industry to co found a tech company. I had been building my business for five years, but I knew I needed to take control of how my business was presented to the world. However, there was one major obstacle standing in my way. Me. My LinkedIn photo was 20 years old. My digital presence practically invisible. I was terrified of public speaking and networking felt completely out of my depth. I knew that to lead I had to step out from behind the scenes and let my voice and vision be seen. But that was easier said than done. Joining the Powerful Steps program didn't just help me find my voice. It surrounded me with a community. It wasn't just a program. It became a space of encouragement, collaboration, mentorship and friendship. Since then, everything shifted. I've gone from hiding behind the scenes to standing on stages at uh, south by Southwest, Sydney and other global events, sharing my voice on purposeful technology. Technology that drives real impact. I've become a LinkedIn top voice and I've used my platform to spark conversations about innovation and how we can use tech to create meaningful changes. Now Simone's story is just one example of how powerfully you can back yourself when you want to commit to change. When you align your energy with the right people and the right tools, there's no limit to what you can achieve. You can meet Simone and other global impact leaders by simply signing up to our Los Angeles Business Activation Retreat or our Power Zone via the Community app on our website powerful-steps.com keep shining your light and remember, a happy heart is always a magnet for miracle. Much love, Tori.
