This episode challenges the conventional wisdom that networking connections are the primary driver of success, arguing instead that for people without existing networks, building personal credibility and visible results is the true path forward. Jameer Angelo references a Shark Tank interview with Robert where he emphasizes that if you don't know anybody, you must become the person others want to know. The core insight is that successful people are attracted to proof and leverage, not need - so the strategy shifts from chasing proximity to building power. Angelo illustrates this with his own experience at Funnel Expert PH, where high-profile clients and top closers began reaching out after he consistently documented campaign results, migrated clients from ClickFunnels to GoLVL, and showed visible wins. The episode argues that brand isn't a logo but a signal of execution, showing up, and delivery. For freelancers, entrepreneurs, and funnel builders starting with no audience or connections, the practical takeaway is to focus on skills, execution, consistency, reputation, and small wins - proving value through visible work rather than asking for access. This resonates with anyone feeling locked out by the "who you know" narrative.

Key takeaways

  • →If you don't know anybody, stop chasing connections and start building visible proof and leverage that attracts successful people naturally.
  • →Your brand is a signal of execution and delivery, not a logo - document your journey, share results, and help without asking for anything in return.
  • →Successful people respond to opportunity and value, not need; approaching them with no leverage or results wastes their expensive time and signals weakness.
  • →Small wins and proof don't require permission - build credibility quietly day by day through skills, execution, consistency, and reputation.
  • →Opportunities worth having come from becoming valuable enough to earn access, not from asking for it.

Questions this episode answers

How do you attract successful people and high-profile clients without existing connections?

Build visible proof of your work, document results, show execution and delivery through your brand, and help others without asking for anything - successful people notice value and reach out on their own.

What's the difference between being rich and being wealthy?

Rich is an event that can disappear, while wealth is an identity that compounds over time.

Why does the advice 'it's not what you know, it's who you know' fail people starting from zero?

It's lazy advice that doesn't answer the practical questions of who, where, and how - when you have no connections, you need to convert effort into proof and become valuable first.

What do you need to become to attract successful people?

You need skills, execution, consistency, reputation, and visible wins - proof matters more than potential, and proof doesn't require permission.

How did Jameer Angelo attract top closers and high-profile clients to Funnel Expert PH?

By consistently showing results online, documenting successful campaigns with high-profile public figures, and demonstrating execution through visible wins on social media and in his work.

What our scoring noted

Our reviewer’s read on each dimension, with quotes from the episode.

Insight Density

4 / 20

The episode contains essentially one idea - become valuable so others come to you - padded across 16 minutes with heavy repetition, motivational filler, and no novel claims a B2B operator wouldn't already know. The ratio of padding to actual insight is extremely poor.

your brand guys is not a logo it is a signal it tells people i mean the person executes the person shows up the person finishes
nobody cares about your potential. They care about your proof.

Originality

3 / 20

Every idea here - 'rich is an event, wealth is an identity,' 'become the person others want to know,' 'provide value first' - is among the most recycled content in the entrepreneurship-motivational space. There is no contrarian, first-principles, or counterintuitive argument anywhere in the episode.

rich is an event. Wealth is an identity. Rich can disappear. Wealth actually compounds.
networking isn't really about access it's about attraction

Guest Caliber

2 / 20

There is no actual guest. The host is a solo funnel builder who references a viral social media clip of Robert Herjavec (not interviewed) and shares a vague personal anecdote protected by NDA. No practitioner is present to interrogate.

I saw this, as what I've said, I saw this a few days ago. It popped up in my news feed.
I really couldn't drop names here because we're tied up with NDAs and shit, but he's one of the best.

Specificity & Evidence

4 / 20

The only numbers in the episode ($30M and 'many hundreds of millions') are borrowed verbatim from a third-party social media clip, not original research. The host's own key anecdote is deliberately name-free and metric-free due to NDAs, making it unverifiable and non-actionable.

I sold my first company for 30 million. I just sold my last one for many, many, many, many hundreds of millions.
trying to discuss everything with his marketing team and himself

Conversational Craft

2 / 20

This is an uninterrupted solo monologue; there is no interview, no guest, no follow-up questions, and no opportunity for productive disagreement. The format precludes any conversational craft by design.

Now, today, as you have seen the intro video that I shared over with you, it's something that just came across my newsfeed a few days ago.
And that is a wrap for today's episode. Remember, no matter what challenges you may face, there's always a way to rise above

Robert from Shark Tank, man. And this piece of advice that I'm about to give you that he gave to me is one that shifted my perspective because I didn't even think of it this way. Excuse me, sir. How did you get rich?

I sold my first company for 30 million. I just sold my last one for many, many, many, many hundreds of millions. So you're rich, Rich? Oh, I'm not rich.

I'm wealthy. What's more important in the business world? What you know or who you know? What you know.

Absolute bullshit. When I started out in business, my mom was a receptionist. My dad swept floors in a factory. Every person I knew in business said this bullshit advice to me.

It's not what you know, it's who you know. In order to make money, you need money. I was screwed. I was 23 years old, starting with nothing.

If you don't know anybody, you gotta become the person other people wanna know. Because successful people aren't just gonna go spend their time with somebody. I always like to say that you wanna network with successful people to become successful. You wanna network when you provide something of value.

Build your own brand, other people will come to you. I mean, look, the reason why I love this so much is because I can't even think about the amount of times that people give the cliche advice that it's not what you know, it's who you know. But in reality, guys, you have to understand if you don't build yourself, if you don't build your own brand like Robert's talking about, successful people are not gonna be willing to connect with you. They're more than likely not gonna be willing to help you.

You gotta go establish some of your own credibility. You gotta go build some of your own wins and then the successful people will flock to you. I love that advice right there. Get ready for the real talk, the grind, and the hustle.

Now, today, as you have seen the intro video that I shared over with you, it's something that just came across my newsfeed a few days ago. And I decided to have it as an episode to get me pumped up, to get me inspired, and to perhaps share some knowledge and maybe some insights over to you that you can definitely use. If you're a freelancer, if you're a business owner, if you're someone building funnels like myself. But before anything else, I just need to ask you something.

Have you ever heard this advice? It's not what you know, it's who you know. And the moment someone said it something inside you just dropped Because you thought okay but what if I don know anybody right And nobody ever talks about that part Nobody explains what you supposed to do when you starting from zero Like, I mean, having no money, no audience, no access to anything, no connections, just your desire, your grit, your determination, your hunger. and that advice doesn't inspire people like us.

It shuts the door. And for a long time, I believe it meant I was already behind until one thing flipped my mind. And it actually completely flipped the way I see success. and today I'm giving you that exact shift because if you really hear this you'll stop chasing rooms and start building leverage and everything changes from there right now Now, this one, this is the lie that we were sold onto.

Now, here's the truth that nobody wants to say out loud. Again, it's not what you know, it's who you know. It's such a freaking lazy advice. It sounds smart, yes.

It sounds perhaps elite. It sounds like something successful people say. And after they've already made it, I mean, but when you're broke, that line is actually useless. Now think about it.

So say you're 22 or 23 years old, right? Just freshly graduated from college, grinding and trying to figure things out. And someone goes, you just need to know the right people. Okay, cool.

But the question is who? Where? And like, how? Nobody ever answers that.

Because the real truth is when you don't know anybody, you don't need connections. You actually need conversions, right? You need to turn effort into proof. Because here's what actually happens.

When people believe that advice too early, they start chasing proximity. They DM successful people. They ask for favors. They want mentorship before mastery.

And guys, trust me, when I first ever had the 2Kamaclub plaque being shipped over a year, and I was able to post it. I was able to share it through social media. I got bombarded with tons of emails, tons of DMs, tons of messages on Messenger and on IG asking me if I have a course. And people are trying to get connected with me.

I have nothing against them, but this is exactly what I'm trying to say. Successful people feel that energy immediately, not opportunity, right? Need. And nobody builds empires responding to need.

All right. Now let's try and talk about Robert. This is from Shark Tank, guys. So, yeah, I saw this, as what I've said, I saw this a few days ago.

It popped up in my news feed. And I been closely watching this page on Facebook It called The School of Hard Knocks for a while I believe James actually owns it I think he has about 4 million plus followers on Facebook if I not mistaken. And I came across this short video interview with, yeah, Shark Tank, Robert. and he asks him, sir, how do you get rich?

And Robert says, I sold my first company for 30 million. I sold my last one for many, many, many hundreds of millions. So they both laugh and James actually says or asks, so you're rich, rich. And Robert says, no, I'm not rich.

I'm wealthy. And that line right there stopped me a bit because rich is an event. Wealth is an identity. Rich can disappear.

Wealth actually compounds. Then Robert says something that matters more than the money. He shared a story about, you know, his mom was a receptionist. His dad swept floors in a factory.

no silver spoon, no inside access, no head start. And he says, everyone told me the same thing. It's not what you know, it's who you know. You need money to make money.

And then he says the line that changed everything. If you don't know anybody, you got to become the person other people want to know. And that's it. And that is the whole formula.

so why do networking fail most people now here's the part nobody likes i mean successful people aren't lonely they're not waiting for some someone random to show up with nothing i mean their time is really expensive so if you approach them with no results no leverage no value i mean come on man i mean why would they stop right networking isn't really about access it's about attraction all right you don't chase powerful people you build power until they notice you now every opportunity i've ever gotten didn't come from asking it came from building something visible.

Now, good story that I really want to share with you. And this happened about a year ago. Right. So I've been very visible online, been throwing some, you know, valuable content online for my personal brand and for FunnelXRPH.

Thus, you know, showing results of some campaigns I've been doing, some high-profile public figures that we are working with, you know, companies and teams from the UK, US, Canada, Australia. And this top closer, guys, one of the best closers in the entire world, just literally popped up my inbox, asked me if I have availability for a 30-minute consultation, tried to discuss everything with his marketing team and himself. And I was blown because I really couldn't imagine myself closing the best closer in the world.

And if you were in my position, I really couldn't drop names here because we're tied up with NDAs and shit, but he's one of the best. And thus having to agree to work with him to build funnels for his business and to go migrate some of his funds from ClickFunnels to GoLVL and all that shit But we were able to make it happen And it was a very successful campaign. The transition was really smooth. And that's one of the things I really want to share with you.

The opportunity that should come to you is something that you really need to work on. Build your brand. Build credibility. provide results, and you would be able to attract high-profile public figures, individuals that you would be able to network with and you'd be able to grow your business with, right?

And, you know, let's talk about becoming valuable, okay? So how do I meet successful people? So start asking, what do I need to become so successful people notice me? There's a couple few things.

I mean, skills, execution, consistency, reputation, wins. And I mean, even small wins, guys. Nobody cares about your potential. They care about your proof.

And proof doesn't require permission. You build it quietly, day by day. And while everyone else is waiting. Right?

So build a brand that pulls. yeah your brand guys is not a logo it is a signal it tells people i mean the person executes the person shows up the person finishes right so when you document your journey when you share what you learn when you help without asking people will start watching they will start listening than reaching out. And one day, you realize the room didn't open because you asked. It opened because you freaking earned it.

Okay? So, guys, if you're listening to this show right now thinking, I don't know anybody. Well, the answer is good. That means you're at the beginning, not the end.

Because the world doesn't reward who you know. it rewards who you become. And when you become valuable, when you become to build your brand, you don't have to knock. They will come looking and they will come find you.

And from there, there's only one direction, guys. Nothing but up. And that is a wrap for today's episode. Remember, no matter what challenges you may face, there's always a way to rise above and keep moving forward.

With the right mindset and determination, nothing can hold you back. Nothing but up. Thanks for tuning in and be sure to hit subscribe and like our podcast for more inspiring conversations like this. Listen to us on Spotify and we are also on Facebook, guys, and on YouTube.
