Timewise is a relationship-driven sci-fi graphic novel by writer-artist Kevin Krull, exploring the premise of meeting your future self and not liking what you see. The story follows Ben and Emma as their budding relationship is interrupted when Ben reveals he's built a time machine and his future self arrives to judge his current choices. Krull has spent three years developing this 140-page softcover comic and partnered with Guerrilla Publishing to handle distribution and Kickstarter execution. The campaign offers three tiers: $20 for digital edition, $20 for physical edition, and $40 for physical plus a Timewise t-shirt, with tier names like "Looper" and "Deja Vu" referencing time-travel films. With only three days remaining and $1,019 pledged toward a $1,500 goal from 27 backers, Southgate emphasizes that the campaign is well-positioned for the typical final-week Kickstarter surge. Krull notes this is his first Kickstarter and credits Guerrilla Publishing's expertise in campaign management.

Key takeaways

  • →Timewise is a 140-page graphic novel about a protagonist meeting his future self who judges his present choices, built on the premise that younger selves would reject their older selves.
  • →Kevin Krull partnered with Guerrilla Publishing to handle distribution and Kickstarter execution rather than continuing with self-publishing.
  • →The campaign has a straightforward $1,500 funding goal with three backer tiers ranging from $20 digital to $40 physical plus merchandise, positioned to capitalize on typical last-week campaign momentum.
  • →Kickstarter campaigns typically see a final funding surge in their closing days, making the current $1,019 pledged with three days remaining a strong position to reach the goal.
  • →Kevin Krull can be found on Instagram at @theotherrkevinrkrull and through Guerrilla Publishing's social channels for creator interaction.

What our scoring noted

Our reviewer’s read on each dimension, with quotes from the episode.

Insight Density

4 / 20

The episode is almost entirely promotional for a Kickstarter campaign with minimal substantive content about creative business, comic production, or publishing strategy. There is almost no novel information or actionable insight for B2B operators; the host repeats basic Kickstarter mechanics (final funding bump) without depth or nuance.

You're an early riser. I'm the 5am Club. You could still get in there. But uh, you, you've got as of this moment, $1,019 pledged of a fifteen hundred dollar goal.
When we start talking about Kickstarters, there's always that final bump where it balloons up.

Originality

3 / 20

The episode applies no original frameworks or thinking to creative publishing or Kickstarter strategy. The host relies on generic encouragement and standard Kickstarter promotional tactics without exploring contrarian or first-principles reasoning about how graphic novels actually reach audiences or monetize.

Throw in five bucks. Throw in 20 bucks, because you could do a pledge that's just five bucks just to help out.
Tell your friends. Share it. You don't know who's out there that's gonna go, wait, it's a time travel comic.

Guest Caliber

6 / 20

Kevin Krull is an emerging comic artist on his first Kickstarter who has not demonstrated significant scale or operating experience. While he appears to have worked for three years on the project, he defers entirely to Guerrilla Publishing for execution and admits to not understanding Kickstarter mechanics, making him a junior practitioner rather than a seasoned operator with proven results.

I, I worked on it for about three years and um, finally finished it. Tried, tried the self publishing thing and you know that it was ups and downs or whatever
I think we're focusing on just getting it out. But I'd say this, this is my first Kickstarter. I, I had no idea what I was doing.

Specificity & Evidence

8 / 20

The episode includes concrete details about the Kickstarter itself: $1,500 goal, 27 backers, $1,019 pledged, 140 pages, three pricing tiers ($20 digital, $20 physical, $40 with t-shirt), and a 3-day deadline. However, there are almost no specifics about comic industry trends, distribution channels, comparable titles, sales data, or business metrics that would educate operators.

$1,019 pledged of a fifteen hundred dollar goal. So we got to work this weekend. We got to get you over that. There are 27 backers
The first one is 20 bucks. It's. You just get the book. Um, and the Second one is 40 and I, it's uh, actually, I think we only have two tiers.

Conversational Craft

5 / 20

The host asks mostly softball questions focused on describing the product rather than probing deeper into business strategy, audience-building, or the guest's decision-making. There are no follow-ups that challenge the guest or extract meaningful lessons; the conversation reads as a promotional read-through with minimal journalistic rigor or curiosity about how comic creators actually succeed.

So time wise, give us the overall, give us the thumbnail of what time wise is.
So Kevin, uh, give me some details about the book. It's, it's 140 pages. That's what the Kickstarter is actually for.

Speaker A: Imagine walking into your boss's office and giving notice because your writing has become your primary revenue stream or your podcast is successful enough that you can quit your day job or maybe having your marketing on, uh, autopilot so you can spend your time on the art career you love rather than on marketing. Are you a creative person who's great at what you do, but marketing makes you freeze?

Speaker B: You're not alone.

Speaker A: I help passionate, purpose driven creatives overcome fear, find their brand voice and build a marketing strategy that works for them. Oh yeah, I also make it easy and painless. It's never too late to grow the business you've been dreaming about. Book an introductory call with me, Rob Southgate, @southgatesmallbusiness.com today and let's take the pain out of marketing together.

Speaker B: Welcome to Gofundis. I am Rob Southgate. Today I have with comic book creator, writer, artist, I'm assuming all of the above. Is that right?

Speaker C: Yeah.

Speaker B: I've got Kevin Kroll with me, who, okay, those of you that listen to my shows, listen to ally chats and listen to even go fund this here. Uh, you may be familiar with Guerrilla Publishing, who is, ah, a company that we've had a number of people on with. Uh, they're good friends of this show.

Speaker A: Kevin is now doing a Kickstarter with Guerrilla Publishing, am I right?

Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker B: Okay, good. I did all that and I'm like, oh, what if it turns out he's like, no, no, this is mine. Uh, so Kevin is here to promote his Kickstarter for time wise, it's a comic. We'll get into the details on it. Uh, before I do, I'm going to say up front what I say throughout the show so I don't have to say it as much. If you like what you're hearing here, if you, if you're a supporter of indie comics, you want to share this, you want to support it, you want to jump in there. There's only three days left, uh, which now I just put under myself. I now have to try and get this on tonight. Uh, and, but there's limited time, so you want to get in there, you don't want to miss out, you want to support this. And, uh, let's see, let's, let's get into this first. Kevin, why don't you tell people who you are, give them a little bit about your background and then we're going

Speaker A: to get into the actual Kickstarter.

Speaker C: Um, all right. Yeah. Um, um, my name is Kevin Crow. I, uh, uh, from Chicago, Illinois. Um, and yeah, basically, um, uh, just put out this book. Uh, I worked on it for about three years and um, finally finished it. Tried, tried the self publishing thing and you know that it was ups and downs or whatever but um, met up with the gorilla guys and you know.

Speaker B: Gorilla guys?

Speaker C: Yeah, they uh, they seemed respond to the book and wanted to put it out. So yeah, we're uh. But yeah, I've basically kind of lived in artist alleys and you know, comic uh, conventions, you know, since I was a kid. And now I'm you know, kind of doing the other side of it, just tabling and all that.

Speaker B: Other side of the table. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And uh, we'll actually have you. Those of you that are interested. I'm going to go into a little bit more depth with Kevin, have a little bit more fun on the other show Alley Chats, which is artist alley virtual. Uh, so we'll do some of that. But today it's all about this Kickstarter. Uh, so time wise, give us the overall, give us the thumbnail of what time wise is.

Speaker C: Um, it's basically kind of a uh, kind ah, of a relationship book about a guy who um, meets this girl and things are going really well. Um, he tells her he's, he's been building a time machine for the last few years and you know, she basically um, his future self comes to visit him and they don't, they don't really, they don't really like each other. And that's kind of what it's about is that, you know, one of. They both think the other one is

Speaker B: an idiot, you know, and you know, of himself.

Speaker C: Yeah, it's his. It is, yeah, it's future self. I don't, I don't really specify in there how, how far into the future it is, but it. They both think the other one's just a jerk.

Speaker B: And you know, I like that premise. Well I, I love the uh, the whole Doctor who spinning clock behind you there too. Like the whole thing. When I look at the COVID I'm like, yeah, I'm. You've already got me, already got me. Um, I'm gonna actually read the, the synopsis that you had on here because I think this sums it up. Well. Everyone always says they were an idiot when they were younger. Timewise is the story of what your younger self would say back. You've already spoiled it. You're an idiot is what the younger self is going to say back. Uh, Ben and Emma have just started a great relationship when things seem to be Going great. Ben reveals that he spent the last few years building a time machine and their future selves have come to visit. It's a story about meeting your future self and not liking what you see. Uh, check out this 140 page graphic novel from writer artist Kevin Krall. So it's 140 pages. This is what we're kickstarting here. Uh, so Kevin, uh, give me some details about the book. It's, it's 140 pages. That's what the Kickstarter is actually for. Is, is to put out like a graphic novel.

Speaker C: Yeah. So the, the book, the book is done. Um, and it's basically just. Yeah. Uh, you know, to get in early and basically to get distribution out to, you know, stores or whatever. I'm letting gorilla handle all that because, you know, but yeah, um, you know, if you get on early, you get, um, the, the three tiers. I think we have. The first one is 20 bucks. It's. You just get the book. Um, and the Second one is 40 and I, it's uh, actually, I think we only have two tiers.

Speaker B: Actually. Actually it lists here three, but it is two. It's $20. You get the digital edition.

Speaker C: That's what it is. Yes.

Speaker B: That's $20. You get a physical edition.

Speaker C: Yeah.

Speaker B: Uh, and then for $40 you get the physical plus a T shirt that says time wise on it. That is very cool.

Speaker C: Thank you. Yeah.

Speaker B: So I like, I like the logo. I like all of this. I think it's just really cool. And I love that you call the uh, third tier. You've got deja vu, you've got a rival. And then Looper, uh, those of us that are sci fi time travel nerds, Looper is a big one. That's. Yeah, I like that. So that's really cool. Now it's, it's going to be, I assume, a soft back.

Speaker C: Yep.

Speaker B: And uh, the. Are there any. I mean right now, let's, let's do this part of it. Uh, right now you are. We're three days to go. It ends Monday at 7:17am M. So last minute. You're an early riser. I'm the 5am Club. You could still get in there. But uh, you, you're, you've got as of this moment, $1,019 pledged of a fifteen hundred dollar goal. So we got to work this weekend. We got to get you over that. We've got basically three days to make this happen. There are 27 backers, uh, that you're actually doing really well, for that. And you are in a good spot because those, once again, that pay, uh, attention to the business stuff I talk about. When we start talking about Kickstarters, there's always that final bump.

Speaker A: Boop.

Speaker B: Where it balloons up.

Speaker A: And you should be right where you

Speaker B: are to make that work. So we want to help you, though. I want the people listening. Throw in five bucks. Throw in 20 bucks, because you could do a pledge that's just five bucks just to help out. 20 bucks.

Speaker A: Hey, you get the book, and you

Speaker B: definitely want to get this book. Uh, I know that it looks really great. Uh, so are there. This is going to be a weird question because they're not on here, but let's say a miracle happens. You wake up tomorrow and there's another 500 in there and you've hit your goal. Do you have any, any ideas for stretch goals? Are you, like, known this time? We just want to get the thing out.

Speaker C: Um, I think we're focusing on just getting it out. But I'd say this, this is my first Kickstarter. I, I had no idea what I was doing. And the gorilla guys have been awesome as far as. I mean, they're. They're pros at running this. So. Yeah, if they have any plans for stretch goals. Um, I'm not sure what they are, but yeah, I mean, it's not crazy, you know?

Speaker B: Yeah.

Speaker A: Okay, cool, cool.

Speaker B: I'm gonna have to talk to them because I consult on this stuff and I have a couple of ideas that would have been fabulous for your stretch goals. Uh, I got. I'm gonna have Julio on any day now, so I'm gonna. I'm gonna really grill Julio on this.

Speaker C: All right. Yeah, by all means.

Speaker B: But for you, for this one, this is where we're at. It's a straight up. We're funding the book. Fifteen hundred dollars. I love it. Uh, I love the, uh, I love the artwork. I'm excited about a time travel story, and that premise is really funny. Uh, if you look at the scroll at the bottom, it has where you can support the Kickstarter. Basically, just look up time wise when you go to Kickstarter or go to Guerrilla Publishing and then you'll see a time wise one on there. I will put all the links in the show notes as well. Uh, okay, Kevin, where can people interact with you? What's the best place?

Speaker C: Um, well, I'm on it. I'm on Instagram. Um, at the other Kevin Kroll. Um, all, ah, one word. It's K. Uh, R, U, L, L. And, uh, yeah. And, you know, through the Gorilla Publishing, also their Instagram. And, um, I think I'm on Twitter, but I don't think I. I. You know, I don't think I am, actually.

Speaker B: It's not a good place to interact with you if you. If you are.

Speaker C: So I think I made a profile

Speaker B: once and abandoned it, but, yeah, don't worry about it. Yeah, but if you're not on it, what does it matter? Right?

Speaker C: Right.

Speaker B: So cool. All right, Kevin, this was great. Once again, call to action. We want to get this thing over the top. I think it's a really cool project. That's why I'm in a rush to get this out as fast as possible. And, uh, because I want people to see it. I want people to experience this. And we want to support this book. Kevin's really cool. His is. His artwork is cool. This book sounds great. Uh, and we want to see. We want to succeed, because then our guerrilla guys are gonna want more. Uh, for sure.

Speaker A: Right?

Speaker B: And, uh, if not, I'll start putting pressure on those guys, because you know how I am. Uh, and, uh. There we go, Kevin. Oh, and tell your friends. Share it. You don't know who's out there that's gonna go, wait, it's a time travel comic. I'm all in. And you didn't even know they were into comics. Share it on your social media. Let people know, and you yourself jump in there and support it. I mean, man, 40 bucks to get a T shirt and a book. That's a deal.

Speaker C: Yeah.

Speaker B: So there you go, everybody. You've got your marching orders. Follow Kevin. Support him. Tell your friends. Kevin, thank you so much.

Speaker C: Thank you.

Speaker B: This was great.

Speaker C: Yeah. Thank you, Sam.
