Colin Boyd breaks down three actionable approaches for generating urgent cash flow in a coaching or course creator business. The core thesis is that revenue gaps are normal and generating sales is a learnable skill - not an optional activity. Boyd emphasizes entering deliberate "sales mode" by eliminating distractions like admin work and social media, citing Mr. Wonderful's assertion that sales is the number one entrepreneurial skill. He references Kathy Heller's perspective on abundance to reframe pricing anxiety: clients are already spending money; the question is whether they spend it with you. The second strategy targets low-hanging fruit by identifying and emailing your top 10% of past paying clients - those with existing trust and transaction history - with specific offers for higher-ticket programs or new services. Boyd shares specific tactics like checking Stripe or Kajabi to find highest-value customers and crafting personalized outreach. The third approach, "remove the reins," encourages testing unconventional, low-budget offers without overthinking: hosting free Zoom workshops with limited spots, launching $17-$47 micro-courses (Boyd's original Conversion Story Formula pricing), or packaging training modules as standalone products. These strategies bypass long-term strategic planning to activate immediate revenue. Boyd also promotes his Platinum mastermind program for experts earning $300k+ seeking to reach seven figures, and his Elite Group for coaches building from $5-10k to $40-50k monthly revenue.

Key takeaways

  • →Enter deliberate sales mode by cutting distractions like admin and social media, since sales is a learnable skill and clients are already looking to spend money - the only question is whether they spend it with you.
  • →Reach out to your top 10% highest-paying past clients with specific upsell offers, leveraging existing trust and transaction history to generate quick sales without acquiring new prospects.
  • →Test unconventional, low-cost offers rapidly - from free invite-only Zoom workshops to $17-47 micro-courses extracted from existing modules - to activate latent demand without waiting for perfect strategic positioning.

Questions this episode answers

How do you generate $10,000-30,000 in revenue within seven days?

Enter sales mode by eliminating distractions and prioritizing client outreach, target your highest-paying existing clients with specific upsell offers, and test unconventional low-cost products or live workshops to activate demand without lengthy planning cycles.

Why is reaching out to past paying clients more effective than acquiring new customers?

Past clients already have trust with you, have completed a transaction, and are proven buyers; an email offering additional services or new programs to your top 10% of customers by revenue typically generates faster sales than cold outreach.

What does 'remove the reins' mean in terms of revenue generation?

It means testing unconventional, lower-barrier offers - like hosting a free limited-spot Zoom workshop, launching a $17-47 micro-course, or packaging existing training modules - rather than waiting for perfectly refined strategic products.

How does Colin Boyd reframe the guilt entrepreneurs feel about charging clients?

He cites Kathy Heller's concept that clients will spend the money anyway; the question is not whether you should charge, but whether they'll spend it with you or elsewhere, assuming you can serve them and align with their goals.

Insight Density

5 / 20

The episode delivers three pieces of advice that are, by the host's own admission, obvious: get into sales mode, contact past clients, and try something new. A large portion of the runtime is eaten by a promotional monologue for the host's Platinum program and a horse-riding anecdote, leaving almost no insight per minute that a working operator wouldn't already know.

get into sales mode. I, uh, know it's. It's obvious, but I don't think it's obvious.
And so I jumped on the back riding bareback. And I will tell you, it's a bit wild, right? It's a little bit wild, it's loose, it's all over the place.

Originality

4 / 20

Every idea recycled from the coaching-industry standard playbook: reactivate past clients, overcome sales avoidance, experiment with offers. The one mildly interesting reframe about the client spending $3,000 regardless is explicitly lifted from another author's book, not original thinking.

she said something beautifully, which I hadn't heard before, she said this, she goes, the truth is that that woman or that man, that client, is going to spend that $3,000
Look at that. Three T's. Trust, transaction, transformation. Love it.

Guest Caliber

5 / 20

This is a solo episode with the host, a coach who sells programs to other coaches. He claims 17 years in business but the operational evidence presented is modest (a $10K monthly gap problem, a $20-25K corporate consulting month), and his authority rests on being a coach-for-coaches rather than a practitioner who built something at genuine scale.

I know for me, in my journey of running my coaching business for over 17 years now
I remember many times, you know, I would go from, I would have like a 20, $25,000 a month and then the next month might be like 12,000

Specificity & Evidence

6 / 20

A handful of illustrative dollar figures appear ($10K gap, $17/$47 price points, 50-person Zoom cap) but they are hypothetical examples, not real client data or verified outcomes. Tool name-drops (Stripe, Kajabi) add minor concreteness, but there are no named case studies, timelines, or conversion rates.

go to your inbox and go, who are the people who have engaged the highest? Like, have they opened the most emails or they've clicked on the most things
You could literally just email your list and say, hey, I'm hosting a one hour invite only zoom session

Conversational Craft

3 / 20

This is an uninterrupted solo monologue; there is no interviewing, no follow-up, and no pushback possible. The host interrupts himself multiple times to insert promotional pitches for two separate programs, further fragmenting what little content exists.

DM me the word Elite in my Instagram, it'll literally be me. So I will, I will reply back
if you are a coach or a course creator and you're enjoying my podcast and you want to learn how to build a profitable expert business using these strategies I'm talking about

Episode notes

Your bank account just sent you a distress signal. Not because you don't have a good offer. Not because people don't like you. It's because you're doing everything except the one thing that brings money in the door: selling. In this episode of The Expert Edge, I break down 3 fast-action strategies to create real revenue in 48 hours-without burnout, without icky sales tactics, without waiting for the universe to align. Here's the brutal truth: the gap between "I have a great program" and "I made $5K this week" isn't about better marketing or a prettier sales page. It's about shifting into sales mode. And it doesn't take 90 days. It works this week. I've used these strategies to generate cash quickly throughout my 17+ years building my business. They're not long-term scaling tactics. They're short-term power moves that remind you that you're a salesperson first and a perfectionist second.

Speaker A: Hey.

Speaker B: Hey. So welcome back to the Expert Edge.

Speaker A: Today's conversation, we're talking about how do you get quick cash? Like, how do you get cash by Thursday? And that's going to be the conversation we are about to have. It's good, it's good. It's going to be solid and super helpful. Now, uh, before I get into it, I wanted to share with you something that's coming up. So we have various levels in our programs, depending on where you're up to in your expert business. But I know for me, one of the most transformational experiences I had, especially when I'd hit over $300,000, was being a part of a high level program, a high level mastermind implementation program. Because what we notice is that there are different problems that you have to solve from getting from, you know, zero to a hundred thousand, and then there's slightly different problems getting from a hundred thousand to a couple hundred thousand, and then there's different problems from a couple hundred thousand to a million. And depending at, uh, where you're at

Speaker B: to where you're at in the business,

Speaker A: there needs to be a different focus and a focus on solving different problems. And so that's why I have a specific room, a space, a, it's a program. It's called Platinum. And Platinum is my most intimate, highest level program that I have in our business. And it really helps people who are making $300,000 or more in their expert business to get to that million dollar mark. Now a lot of the people in Platinum already are, uh, doing 500, 600, 700,000. We have a few people already doing a million dollars in the program. And so I've just put like a, you know, a base benchmark of 300,000. You're on track for 300,000 essentially like let's say around 30k a month or so. Um, you're pacing towards that, or maybe you're above that. Like I said, most people are above that in the program. And so I just wanted to share that because we, I'm doing an intake at the moment. And so if you're interested in having a conversation about that, it's a phenomenal program. Uh, it involves masterminding with the group, uh, work with me, uh, workshops, uh, high level strategies. And I've seen many of our, many of our people in the program go from a couple hundred thousand to, you know, a million dollars plus. And so if you're on that journey and you really want to own your market leadership, that's one of the big goals, is to Own your market leadership. Because that decision from going from being a, um, market contributor, like, you know, just another coach or another person in the marketplace, to being a market leader, someone who's known in your space and your niche as the go to person, then, um, that's what Platinum's for, right? And that's the journey. And so if you're interested, be a link in the show notes, you can go and check that out or you can go to Colum Boy Co Platinum. And basically the process is, uh, you'll complete a short application, uh, and, and

Speaker B: we'll jump on a call, you and

Speaker A: me, we'll have a chat about, about you, about the business, about your pro, about what you want to do and about the program, whether it's right fit. And um, because it's really an application only program, like, it's not. You can't just buy Platinum. You apply to Platinum and then we have a conversation if it's a right fit. And so because I'm extremely protective of the room and uh, I want to make sure the right people are in that room and if you get in the room, you're going to love it. So, uh, yeah, that's the, that's the next step. Columbo Co Platinum. If you're already doing over $300,000 in your expert business, ready to go to a million dollars, or if you're above that as well, um, that's, this is the room for you. So, uh, we have programs for below that level, but that's. Platinum is the, is the, uh, that's our top level program. So I hope you guys enjoy today's episode. I think it's going to be really powerful. Three ways to make quick cash, uh, by Thursday. Let's get into it.

Speaker C: You are listening to the Expert Edge podcast. This is the place where experts come to command the stage, position themselves as authorities and scale their business up. Get ready to access your next level of potential with your host, Colin Boyd.

Speaker B: All right, so let's talk about how do you get cash by Thursday, in other words? Uh, you know, there are really strategic things that you can do in your business. But sometimes I know for me, in my journey of running my coaching business for over 17 years now, I've had many times where I've just looked at my P and l looked at how much profit or revenue should I say, is coming in for that month and there is a gap. You know, I literally remember I used to have a flip chart and every single month I would write out how much revenue was projected for the month. And who was bringing that in?

Speaker A: This was when I was working more

Speaker B: corporate stuff and I would add it all up and let's say it was 20,000 for the month. And my goal was 30,000 for the month. I had basically a, ah, $10,000 gap, right? So in my mind I'm thinking I've got to make up at least $10,000 this month in extra revenue to keep growing the business. Now, first of all, I think that's a good thing, like, you should always have some sort of gap. It's funny because I think psychologically it makes you feel like, oh my gosh, you're not doing enough. But I want you to realize, like, it's normal to always have a gap. You're always going to have a gap. And so learning to love the game of generating revenue, getting sales, and doing it in a way that feels really integrate to you is, uh, is part of the game, right? It's part of the game. And so I remember, like I mentioned, I've had many moments, many times where, uh, I've had a gap and I needed money by next Thursday, right? Or this Thursday or whatever it is. I want to share with you a few, uh, concepts that I believe can make a big difference in terms of getting money quick and some tactics and strategies that you can use along the way in doing so. So the first one is this. And this might seem obvious, but I don't think it is. It is that you have to get into sales mode. It's so often easy to be distracted by a whole bunch of things. Like, do you have ADHD like me?

Speaker A: Right.

Speaker B: It's basically the entrepreneurial, uh, condition, right, of adhd, where you basically, you know, you're distracted by rabbits, ferrets, and, you know, anything popping out of the closet. And so basically you get distracted, don't you? You get distracted by admin, by social media, even social media scrolling. You get distracted by other things like customer service. You get distracted by, um, I don't know, just going into Facebook groups or answering questions. Now, all of those things, you know, are important. They don't, they don't necessarily have to be done by you, but they are important, right, to running a business. But here's the thing, is that so often, because that's the least path of resistance, we get distracted by those things. And the problem with those things is they don't generate sales. I was watching a podcast recently with Mr. M. Wonderful, um, you know the guy from like Shark Tank, I think he's on Shark Tank, and he Got asked this question, which was, what's the number one skill that every entrepreneur needs? And unequivocally, he just looks at the guy and just goes, sales. Like, they need to m. They need to know how to do sales. Sales. And sales doesn't necessarily come naturally to people. Um, it's a skill. It's something you can learn. You can get so much better at sales. But here's the thing, is that because sales can feel uncomfortable, it can feel scary, it can feel overwhelming. What do we do? We avoid it. Right? We avoid it. And so if you need money by Thursday or next Thursday, first of all, you have to delete all other distractions and go, I must get into sales mode. And sales mode, don't think of it as getting someone to do something they don't want to do, but essentially it's reaching out and activating things that people already want to do but aren't, uh, doing. And here's the thing. In fact, I was reading a book last night, um, by Kathy Heller on abundance. Uh, Abundance Ever after is the name of the book. Great book. And she was talking about the fact that she said some people feel bad about sales because they're like, oh, you know, I. I feel bad charging someone $3,000 for a retreat. You know, I don't want to charge them money. Or I feel bad taking money or whatever it is. Like, however they're framing it. And she said something beautifully, which I hadn't heard before, she said this, she goes, the truth is that that woman or that man, that client, is going to spend that $3,000. Like, they're going to spend that $3,000 on some sort of retreat or some sort of development. The only question is, are they going to spend it with you? Right? And so rather than thinking, oh, uh, you know, I feel bad about asking for money. The money's already going to be spent. Like, the client is already going to spend it. They're looking to spend the money. And the question is essentially just this. It is, do you want them to spend it with you? And obviously, you need to be able to help them, to be able to serve them. There needs to be alignment. But if you offer the same service or a similar kind of goal outcome as someone else, then why not. Why not have it funnel through you? Right? And so the first thing, this first big idea is you need to get into sales mode. I, uh, know it's. It's obvious, but I don't think it's obvious. And some of you. And I'm speaking to you Right now you're not in sales mode and you need to be, right? You need to be in sales mode. In fact, just the other day I was doing a coaching call with myself from stage, uh, clients and I said to them, guys, we're, I'm running three, three webinars this week. Sorry, this week, this month I've got a webinar, I've got a, what we call a conversion event and I've got a, and I've got a workshop. All of them have the opportunity for people to buy things from me, three of them. And some of, you know, some of my clients will say, oh my gosh, like I'm trying to run one a quarter, which is great. Like, that's definitely great to start. But I want you to know that for me, I am and have been, I have trained myself to go, I am in sales mode, right? I'm in sales mode because there are people out there wanting to spend money. There are people out there in your audience wanting to spend money. And if you aren't available for them, then they're going to, they're going to funnel it somewhere else. So the first thing is get into sales mode. M. Number two is you need to look for the low hanging fruit. I remember many times in my journey, especially when I was working in corporate space, I used to do a lot of corporate training, keynote speaking, coaching, all that sort of stuff. I would have moments. It was a lot more lumpier, like lumpier income than what I have now. Um, but it is what it is, right? So I'm working in corporate, corporate, corporate consulting and speaking. And I remember many times, you know, I would go from, I would have like a 20, $25,000 a month and then the next month might be like 12,000. And because of that lumpiness, it made me always think like, how, you know, where can I get the next sale from? What I found was that, uh, one of the best things to do is just go back to people who have already worked with you before. So often you guys, someone buys a course from you, someone does some coaching with you, someone does a group coaching and then you're like, okay, they're done. Like they've done. They're finished working with me. They aren't, they aren't finished working with you. They've got other problems that, the fact that you've worked with them has unlocked other problems that you can help them with. Right? So this, this next idea is, this idea that you need to look for the low hanging fruit. So what I would do is I would literally just list out who are the people, like, who are the clients? Who are, who are my favorite clients, my top clients. And to be quite frank, you can just go into your stripe and I would go to who are my highest paying clients. Like, go to them because there's always going to be 10% of your audience who are willing to pay 10 times the amount that you're offering. Go to the 10 highest paying clients in your stripe or whatever platform you use in your kajabi, um, or Optima funnels, whatever you're using and go, how, what could I reach out to them with to, first of all, just check in, see how they're doing and see if they want to have a conversation about doing some further work together. Oh my gosh. I couldn't describe how many times I would reach out to clients who had spent, you know, tens of thousands of dollars with me. I'd send them an email and say, hey, my calendar's opening up a little bit. I've got one or two more, uh, clients available to take on. Would you be interested in having conversation about doing some more work together? And they'd literally be like, oh my gosh, I was talking about you the other day. I was at breakfast with a friend. I would love to they get together, they sign on for more coaching work. Right? Or whatever it is. They sign up for a new course or a coaching program. And so I want to encourage you that the relationships, the relational collateral that you build a relational connection, those integrations that you build with your clients who are already paying you money is where the value is at. And so often you're overlooking that you're not actually spending the time to go deep into that. So really, tactical, tactical advice, go to your inbox and go, who are the people who have engaged the highest? Like, have they opened the most emails or they've clicked on the most things and send them an email about a really specific offer. And I'm going to talk about this in a second, right? Send them an email about something you can do and you could even align with, with the work that they've done before. So if you want to get really granular, you can reach out to them and be like, hey, I know that you did this work together. I'm putting together a new program and the goal is to do this. Would you be interested in, interested in having a conversation about, I think you might be a good fit for it. And then just a booking link, right? And so I want to encourage you, you need to just go, uh, go where the money's already flowing. Right? Go where the money is already flowing, which is clients who have already paid you before, reach out to them. I bet they would want to do more work with you because when you think about it, they've already got trust with you, they've already transacted with you and, and so they're ready to see more transformation with you. Look at that. Three T's. Trust, transaction, transformation. Love it. Um, okay, so that's. The second big idea is look for the low hanging fruit. The third big idea is you need to remove the reins. The context of this, we're talking about the idea of um, generating revenue by Thursday, right. Or getting quicker income. Right. I'm not talking about long term strategic income. How do you, how do you bring in 10, 15, 20,000, $30,000 in the next, you know, seven days kind of thing? So you need to remove the reins. Which by the way. So this is something I've been talking about with myself from Stage Elite Group, by the way, if you are a coach or a course creator and you're enjoying my podcast and you want to learn how to build a profitable expert business using these strategies I'm talking about and more leveraged strategies like selling from Stage, um, online presentations, virtual workshops, webinars, all that sort of stuff. Um, DM me the word Elite in my Instagram, it'll literally be me. So I will, I will reply back, I don't have someone in my DMs, just go to my Instagram @columboid. DM me the word elite and I'd love to have a chat and see if I can help you with. This is really good for people. Usually if you've already got an offer, um, maybe you've done a few courses before, uh, and you're ready to like start to grow and scale. And so we've got a whole process with growing people from you know, five to $10,000 a month up to like 50, uh, 40 to $50,000 a month. That's really the, typically the goal is that first $40,000 jump around that 5,000 to 10,000 up to like 50,000. And then there's a whole nother structure, uh, that you need to put in place above that. But that would be the goal. Right? And so send me the word elite if you're interested in just having a conversation with me and see if we, if we can help. Uh, the third idea is this idea of remove the reins. So often we get really stuck in how we think we should be running our business. Or think we should be doing our office. And so what it does is it locks us into a certain way of doing things. So we're like, okay, I've only got this one online course and that's the only thing I sell now. That's great. That is great. Or we say, I've only got this one kind of one presentation and that's the only way that I sell it now. That is great. That's great strategically. But. And that, that sort of a strategy will scale. But we're talking about how do you get money in on Thursday. And so what you have to do is you need to remove the reins. I remember for me, uh, when I was growing up, one of my best buddies, his name's Matt, uh, Matt Doyle, and he moved out to a farm when I was young, so I lived more in the city. He moved out to a farm and his dad started buying racehorses. And I remember the first time riding a horse was a blast, right? I was on the saddle riding the horse and then he, then I think it was his dad who said to me, he was like, colin, and do you want to ride bareback where you basically hang on to the main and there's no saddle? And, uh, you know, I'm like, absolutely, right? And so I jumped on the back riding bareback. And I will tell you, it's a bit wild, right? It's a little bit wild, it's loose, it's all over the place. You don't have much to grab on. But you know what? I got off and I was like, that was like freaking magic like that. Just. There's something about riding bareback that is just beautiful, right? And so what you need to do is you need to release the reins, you need to ride bareback a bit, um, and test something out. So what does this look like? You could literally just email your list and say, hey, I'm hosting a one hour invite only zoom session. Talking about one strategy that has made this difference with one of my clients recently. If you would like to get access to it, hit the word reply or register here. There's going to be limited spaces. I've got, I've got spots for 50 people. Uh, and that's it. And like you could just host something super low budget, no ads, nothing. It's just, and it's, and it's live, zero replay. You could go in, teach one really cool strategy, make an offer. Uh, it could be a new offer and then just go, go from there. Another one could be, you could take one of the modules in one of your trainings and offer it for $17, $47. That's to be frank. That's what conversion story formula started at. It isn't that anymore. But storytelling was one of the parts of our cell from stage and I was like, you know, not everyone's ready for self from stage Academy yet, even though I think they should be. Um, but, you know, I get it. And so I was like, what about storytelling? So I started with storytelling and the original version was kind of like basically, you know, like what's in the course. It's very different now. I've completely reshot it. It's a completely new program. Uh, but at the start when I'm testing it, you know, I'm just testing it out and I want to give something of value, right? So everyone who bought it obviously got the upgraded product, all that sort of good stuff. So take off the reins, ride bareback, do something a little bit unconventional and that will generate some revenue. So three ideas, right? I've talked about three ideas, which is get into sales mode, get out of admin mode, get into sales mode. Number two, look for low hanging fruit, like go after people, reach out to people who have already paid you or interacting with you. Number three, remove the reins. Like ride bareback a bit. Just try a few things, test a few things out, take the reins off now, like I said, if you are a coach, course creator, you're wanting to implement something like this, definitely send me the word elite. Love to have a little chat about what the challenges are, what you're looking to achieve. And if, if it's something that I can help you with, then, um, I'll point you in the right direction. If it isn't, I'll point you in the right direction as well. So looking, uh, forward to having a conversation with you in Instagram, guys. I trust this has been helpful. Three big ideas. Let's make you money on Thursday. Hey, implement something. Go and do something. I trust this has been valuable and thanks for being a listener. We'll talk soon. Bye for now.
