Jay Clouse is marketing Build a Beloved Membership, a four-week live cohort launching July 3rd following a successful Membership Summit. This marks the first live iteration of his self-paced course, which has generated nearly six figures in revenue and produced students with multi-five-figure and six-figure membership run rates. The cohort structure includes two live calls weekly - Monday teaching sessions with live exercises and Thursday group Q&A - covering four phases: membership promise and pricing (week one), concept validation with real potential members (week two), platform implementation primarily on Circle (week three), and private launch execution (week four). Clouse draws on five years of Lab membership experience, which has earned $1.5M lifetime revenue. Students in the cohort can expect to have paying members by August 3rd. The program includes year-long Lab Basic access with all courses, workshops, Creator HQ, community forums, and monthly office hours. This is positioned as the last major launch before the team focuses on core offerings, with successful case studies including Chad Carson's transition from $200K annual courses to $900K membership revenue and work with Brian Withers, Miles McNair, Marissa Goldberg, and Ronald Eade. The $999 price (described as a "screaming bargain") and July 1st enrollment deadline create urgency.

Key takeaways

  • →The live cohort is structured for 3 hours per week of live teaching plus 1-2 hours of homework, delivering tangible progress toward a real membership launch by August 3rd.
  • →Membership pricing and promise definition (week one) and concept validation with real potential members (week two) are foundational before building the actual platform experience.
  • →Circle is recommended as the primary membership platform 9 out of 10 times, with Discord, Slack, or WhatsApp only for chat-focused communities with smaller member counts.
  • →Chad Carson achieved a $700K revenue gain (from $200K courses to $900K membership annually) by transitioning his existing audience to a membership model using this same framework.
  • →The $999 enrollment includes a year of Lab Basic membership access, effectively bundling the four-week cohort with 12 months of continued office hours and community support.

Questions this episode answers

What is the exact schedule and time commitment for Build a Beloved Membership live cohort?

The cohort runs July 3 - August 3, 2026, with two live calls per week: teaching on Mondays and Q&A on Thursdays, each 90 minutes long (3 hours total per week), plus 1 - 2 hours of homework assignments. Sessions are recorded, so you can catch up if you miss a live call.

What platform does Jay Clouse recommend for building a membership?

Circle is recommended 9 out of 10 times as the best membership platform. The exception is for chat-focused communities where Discord, Slack, or WhatsApp might be better fits for smaller, tighter groups.

Has Build a Beloved Membership produced real business results, and what are examples?

Yes - Chad Carson transitioned from $200K annual course revenue to $900K in membership revenue using this framework. Other documented successes include multi-five-figure and six-figure membership run rates from past students like Brian Withers, Miles McNair, Marissa Goldberg, and Ronald Eade.

What does the $999 price include besides the four-week cohort?

The $999 enrollment includes a full year of Lab Basic membership (worth $699 annually), which provides access to all Jay Clouse's courses, workshops, Creator HQ, community forums, and monthly office hours for continued support after the cohort ends.

When does the enrollment window close, and will this cohort run again?

Enrollment closes Wednesday, July 1st at midnight. This is the last live cohort planned for 2026; if offered again in 2027, the timing is uncertain due to Jay's upcoming paternity leave.

What our scoring noted

Our reviewer’s read on each dimension, with quotes from the episode.

Insight Density

2 / 20

This episode is almost entirely a sales monologue for a paid course cohort. The only fragments approaching instructional value are a brief platform recommendation and a single case study, both deployed as marketing proof points rather than genuine teaching. A B2B operator learns essentially nothing actionable.

nine times out of 10 I land on Circle as what I recommend
it has been a bananas month and I'm a week behind on the podcast, but I wanted to come in here and share a quick episode to tell you what we're doing

Originality

2 / 20

No original frameworks, counterintuitive arguments, or fresh thinking appear anywhere in the episode. The entire runtime is standard course-launch sales copy with generic urgency tactics.

Timing is never amazing. And if you're committed to a membership, this is the best time to get started because everything compounds.
I think it's an absolute no-brainer if you have the space in July.

Guest Caliber

3 / 20

This is a solo promotional monologue by the host, a creator-economy educator. No guests appear. The host has some practitioner credibility running his own membership but operates in the consumer creator space, not B2B, and delivers nothing here beyond self-promotion.

I think I'm uniquely good at this. I think I'm really, really good at this.
I think it's going to be the best live course I've ever done.

Specificity & Evidence

6 / 20

A handful of real numbers are cited - Chad Carson's revenue jump from ~$200K to ~$900K, The Lab's $1.5M+ lifetime revenue, 300+ students, and a $999 price - but all are deployed as sales proof rather than analytical insight, and all sourcing is anecdotal and unverifiable.

He started with a course business that was about $200,000 per year
last year that membership did almost $900,000 in revenue. So that's a $700,000 incremental gain

Conversational Craft

1 / 20

The episode is a solo sales monologue from start to finish with no interviewer, no questions, no follow-ups, and no dialogue of any kind. There is no conversational craft to evaluate.

Episode notes

For the first time ever, I'm teaching my most popular course, Build A Beloved Membership, live over four weeks. You'll learn the exact approach I've taken to building The Lab to a ~$500K/year membership. Here's what you'll get: 4 weeks live. 10 sessions taught by me (July 3 to August 3). Kickoff call (Friday July 3) and Sendoff call (Monday August 3). Recordings of every session. A Circle space for homework, questions, and cohort chat. A year of Lab Basic (member directory, questions answered, frameworks). That last bullet is a big deal. Because after these four weeks are over, a year inside our Basic Membership (which typically costs $699/yr on its own) gives you monthly office hours with me for a year. So after the cohort, you aren't totally on your own again; you still have our community by your side. → Learn more and enroll I won't run this again in 2026. The timing just doesn't work with our next baby on the way - so I'll be going all out on THIS cohort. By the way, it’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun. Here's the full cohort page to learn more. We have more than 30 students enrolled already, and enrollment closes Wednesday, July 1 at 11:59pm ET.

Hello, my friend, welcome to a short off the cuff special edition of Creator Science. We have been working hard over here as a team. It has been a crazy, crazy bananas month of June. Not only did we have our offline event for the lab the first week of June, and we were in Boise for all of craft and commerce, but we were leading up to this three-day summit.

I guess you could call it a four-day summit because we had a Q&A on Friday called the Membership Summit. That was a free four-day event. We've never done anything like that. And on the back of that event, we are now marketing our first live cohort of Build a Beloved Membership, which is my most popular course ever.

All this to say, it has been a bananas month and I'm a week behind on the podcast, but I wanted to come in here and share a quick episode to tell you what we're doing. It's fairly time sensitive because if you're interested in this, you have to make that decision by Wednesday, July 1st. But I know the folks who listen to the podcast care a lot, wanna know what I'm up to, wanna know how we can work together. And so that's what I want to jump in here and share with you today.

So the Membership Summit, let me give a quick, quick recap of that. That was a three-day event. we ran this past week, Tuesday, June 23rd through Thursday, June 25th. And then on that Friday, we had a Q&A for folks who bought the VIP ticket to the membership summit.

And it was all about teaching you why memberships are an opportunity in 2026 and how to build a membership. Now that we're beyond that, folks who want to keep moving that experience forward, we're inviting to consider a live four-week cohort of Build a Beloved membership. I released this course back in 2023 as a self-paced course. And it's my most popular course of all time.

We've had more than 300 students go through it, almost six figures in revenue as a self-paced course. And it's gotten some real results. We have students who have had multi-five-figure launches. We have students who have six-figure run rates on their memberships going through that course, but I've never taught it live.

And I like live teaching. I did it when I was at SPI. And now back in December, I did a signature product bootcamp where I taught live over four weeks how to build your signature product. What I've identified is there's a lot of folks in my audience who really want to get started with a membership, but there are a lot of levers to pull, buttons to push, decisions to make.

And it's easy to do this in a way that ends up really burning you out and making decisions that you wish you could reverse and change. And so what we're doing from July 3rd through August 3rd is taking the best of my self-paced material, Buildable Level Membership, updating it for 2026, and then I'm going to teach it live over those four weeks. So from July 3rd through August 3rd, I'm going to help you build a recurring revenue business based on a membership that people want to join and want to stick around in.

It everything I learned building The Lab over the last five years The Lab has earned over one and a half million dollars in his lifetime almost just last year So I learned a lot And in membership years I feel like the lab is a lot older than most memberships you come across. So we've gone through iterations. We've made changes. We're going to make more iterations and changes over the next couple of months.

But I've learned a lot. A lot of people come to me for advice on this. I had the self-paced course, but I've never run this live. And I think it's going to be the best live course I've ever done.

We announced it on Wednesday at the membership summit, and we've had more than 30 people enroll already. People who are amateur athletes. We have one member who is a legendary podcaster with 25 million downloads. It's going to be a really, really cool group.

We're going to learn and do this together. And if you keep up with the assignments by the end of July, by August 3rd, I guess I should say, you will be doing your private opening of your membership and bringing people in, real members, real paying members without even having a sales page. So if I could break this down week by week, that's what I'm going to do here. Again, it runs July 3rd, Friday, July 3rd through Monday, August 3rd.

That Friday, July 3rd, I know it's a holiday in the US. That's just our kickoff call. So if you missed that, not a huge deal. Our first teaching week is Monday, July 6th.

And basically the design of the program is this. We have two live calls per week, Monday and Thursday. On Monday, it's mostly me teaching, but I have exercises in the teaching. I'm going to give you space to do the exercises live.

We're going to have some volunteers share what they did. We're going to workshop some of it live. Those exercises become your homework assignment for the week. And what I want you to do is complete those exercises before the next Monday call.

So you have a week to work on this exercise. So if you come on Monday and do the workshop or do the worksheet while we're hanging out live, you're going to get like 75, 80% of the way there. Then on Thursday, it's just group Q&A. So if you get stuck, if you have questions about your exercise, bring it to that Q&A, ask the question, and then submit it in circle in our homework space by Sunday.

And our team is going to get eyes on it and give you feedback on it as we go through the week. That's the basic design. And we do that four weeks in a row. So four lectures on Monday the 6th, Monday the 13th, Monday the 20th, and Monday the 27th.

And then we have Q&As on Thursdays the 9th, the 16th, the 23rd, the 30th. All of those sessions are designed to be 90 minutes a piece. So we'll get through a lot of questions. We get through a lot of material.

Basically, it's three hours per week. And I would say budget another hour, one to two hours to do your homework assignment throughout that week. But if you do that, we're going to go through these four phases. Week one is deciding your promise and price for your membership.

So what you're promising to deliver for your people and how you price it. We're going to help you get clear on who you're serving, the progress they want to make, and what you're going to charge for it. Week two is validating this concept, putting in front of real potential members who could become your founding members, by the way. This will help build an initial wait list of people who want to join it.

We're going to validate that concept, get it in front of real people in week two. Week three, we're going to build that experience out in the platform you choose. I'm really going to advocate for Circle I be honest I told everyone during the summit nine times out of 10 I land on Circle as what I recommend Obviously I a little biased because I sponsored by Circle but I been using Circle for more than five years now And I just think it the best platform out there The one time out of 10 that I don recommend Circle is when somebody wants a more chat-based space.

And I'll say, okay, let's think about WhatsApp, Discord, or Slack for your audience. That would be the exception. If you want something that's a little tighter, like there are fewer members and you want to feel more chatty, then maybe consider WhatsApp, Slack, or Discord. But week three is when we're building out these experiences.

And if you're using Circle, I'm going to be extra helpful on that. And week four is our private launch week. We're going to bring actual people. We're going to start sending invitations for people to join your space.

It's accelerated, but if you keep up with it, we're going to get there. We're going to have real people joining your membership by the end of July. I'm really excited about this. Like I said, this course has existed in self-paced form for years and it's gotten huge results for very legitimate people who are still running these memberships.

We had Chad Carson come on day two of the summit and talk about his membership. He started with a course business that was about $200,000 per year. And when he came to the lab, he wanted to transition to a membership. So with Build a Beloved Membership, the self-paced version and the lab, I helped Chad to transition from courses to membership.

And last year that membership did almost $900,000 in revenue. So that's a $700,000 incremental gain with the same audience, largely doing the same activities, making the same content, but a different revenue model. And it more than quadrupled his business, which is crazy. And he's not alone.

I've worked with Brian Withers, Miles McNair, Marissa Goldberg, Ronald Eade, a whole bunch of people that I've helped get these results for. And now we're doing this live for the first time. I'm going to help you get the same results. So would love for you to join us.

I think I've probably shared enough for you to say like, I'm interested in learning more or I'm not. If you're interested in learning more, there's a link in the show notes. You can go to belovedmembership.com.

That's belovedmembership.com to learn more. That gives you all the information you need to know. If you have lingering questions, you can email us team at creatorscience.

com and let us know. I'm going to be sending more information via email over the next few days. I'm really trying to do my best to market this as well as I can, because the honest truth is we're not going to run this again in 2026. And if we do it in 2027, I don't know when we will do it in 2027.

But running this through July, that means that will be done at the beginning of August, which means I have basically two and a half months before paternity leave. And so doing another month-long cohort just isn't going to happen with other stuff we have on the calendar and on the so if you want my support in building a membership this is the time join us in here I forgot to mention the price is $9.99 one time $9.99 and not only do you get this month-long cohort but you get a year in the labs basic membership which is $6.

99 on its own so to me this is a screaming bargain because inside the lab basic you also get all of my other courses all of my workshops you get you get Creator HQ, you get our community forum, you get monthly office hours with me. So besides getting out of this four week experience with a membership that you ready to bring people into and moving your business into a recurring revenue future You also then get 12 months of support inside the lab You can show up to our office hours month over month and get continued support from me as you're continuing to market this, as you're fine-tuning your retention and renewal.

This is a great, great way for you to transition to memberships if that's been on your mind. And I would love to help you do it. I think I'm uniquely good at this. I think I'm really, really good at this.

And so I'm marketing this hard because this is going to be our last big launch this year. The team and I are then going to kind of get back to basics and like really tighten up the core. And we've been working on this for a long time. So if you're thinking about memberships, absolutely consider joining our live cohort of Build a Beloved membership from July 3rd to August 3rd.

We really kick off July 6th with the first teaching. All of this of course is going to be recorded so if you miss any of these sessions they're going to be inside of circle this course is going to be run inside of the labs circle space and like i said you get access to the basics here of the lab as part of your membership as well so i think it's a huge bargain if you care about memberships it's like a triple dip because you get the course you get access to the lab so you get basically two things for the price of one and you get to see how I'm building our membership and how I'm improving upon it, which is our team's next big priority.

So if you're thinking about memberships, this is for you. I really, really think you should consider this. I think it's an absolute no-brainer if you have the space in July. And if you're like, I don't know, the timing's not amazing.

Timing is never amazing. And if you're committed to a membership, this is the best time to get started because everything compounds. Do it sooner. If you think you're going to miss a couple of calls, that's okay.

Again, they're going to be recorded. You can keep up, but the sooner you get started on this stuff, the better. So absolutely join us if this is on your mind and you want to do it. We're going to have a great crew.

We have, as of this recording, 32 people who are registered for the cohort, and we have another 20 something of folks who are in the lab standard and VIP who are joining as well. So we're going to have a great crew. It's going to be a lot of fun. And you're going to walk out of here with a membership that you're excited to run and bring members into.

That is the long and short of it, we'll probably delete this episode after Wednesday, July 1st, because the cart closes on Wednesday, July 1st at midnight. So by Thursday, July 2nd, this opportunity will no longer be available. We won't be running at this again in 2026. So if you're thinking about building a membership, this is the time.

Join us. Go to belovedmembership.com. That's belovedmembership.

com. There's a link in the show notes. We would love to have you. This is going to be our big priority for the year.

We want to make this work for you. We want to make this as effective and impactful as possible. We are a team of people who over deliver and that follows through on this cohort as well. So go to belovedmembership.

com. We'd love to have you. Hope to see you on the other side.
