The hosts discuss an open casting call for filmmaker Jack Neo's upcoming movie 'Ah Boys to Firemen,' which invites people aged 20-30 to submit 30-second to 1-minute audition videos on social media. Host Hongbin Jeong initially jokes she won't audition but agrees to do so if 10 listeners text in encouraging her, with listeners voting for her to perform scene two (confronting a cheating partner).

Key takeaways

  • Jack Neo's 'Ah Boys to Firemen' casting call is open to anyone aged 20-30 regardless of prior acting experience, using social media video submissions as the audition method.
  • The audition requires uploading a 30-second to 1-minute video performing one of four provided scenes on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok, tagged with J Team Productions and MM M2 Entertainment.
  • The four audition scenes cover emotional scenarios: hiding occupation from family, confronting infidelity, witnessing accidents, and apologizing for mistakes to teammates.
  • Content creators are already making audition reels and funny skits based on the scene prompts, with some generating significant social media engagement.
  • The casting approach appeals to finding everyday people and hidden talent rather than only established actors, mirroring trends in Western film productions.

What our scoring noted

Our reviewer’s read on each dimension, with quotes from the episode.

Insight Density

1 / 20

This is a pure entertainment radio segment with zero actionable insights for B2B operators. The entire runtime is devoted to listener texts about a movie casting call and playful host banter, with no substantive ideas whatsoever.

Alright, nosy, let's get into what's trending.
TGIF to you too, Ian.

Originality

1 / 20

There is no original thinking of any kind; the segment is a shallow read-through of a press release about an open casting call, padded entirely with personal anecdotes and listener engagement gimmicks.

usually I always just like the first movie of everything.
I always thought I would be an actor. Yeah. Because I used to do drama workshops back in school

Guest Caliber

2 / 20

There are no interview guests at all - only two radio hosts chatting with each other. A brief audio clip of Sim Bien Chua (Ba Kwa shop owner) is played as entertainment, not as an expert providing any professional insight.

well credit to that, that was Sim Bien Chua who is the founder of Century Ba Kwa
My favorite is actually our Boyz II Men 3 Frogman, because when I was in NS, I was in the exact same camp that they filmed it.

Specificity & Evidence

3 / 20

The only concrete details are administrative facts from the casting call itself (age range, video length, required platforms), none of which are relevant to B2B learning; everything else is vague personal reminiscence and unverified hearsay.

all interested applicants are required to upload a 30 second to one minute video of themselves acting out a scene on Instagram for Facebook or TikTok
The edition is open to both males and females of all races aged between 20 and 30 years old.

Conversational Craft

3 / 20

The hosts engage in friendly, low-stakes radio banter and read listener texts, but there are no substantive questions, no follow-ups that deepen any idea, and no pushback on any claim; the segment's purpose is audience engagement, not intellectual inquiry.

But honestly, how many Arbours II man movies do we actually need?
Any particular reason why you liked the first one?

Speaker A: All right, it's time for what's trending, where we break down the stories everyone's talking about. And of course, we want to hear what you think as well. But before we get into today's story, can we give a warm welcome back to our producer Nazir Azrar? He's finally back after being under the weather for the last couple of days. Good to have you back, mate.

Speaker B: Thank you so much for this warm welcome on a very good Friday. I can't believe we've reached the end of the week. It felt really long.

Speaker A: Exactly. Well, I mean, I hope you had some good rest. It did feel like an extra, extra long week for me because I was all alone in the studio.

Speaker B: But really, thank you so much for holding the fort. And as always, Hong Bin Jeong, on your way home is the best radio show on Money FM 89.3.

Speaker A: Thank you. Thank you. But I also have to thank our listeners because our listeners, I think they felt a little bit bad. So we had new texters, new listeners coming in, texting me. So I want the same energy to welcome to us back. Don't be shy. What's up, us 885-50893. React to the story that we're going to be discussing. Don't be shy. We'll be reading out some of your messages throughout the segment. We already have Ian coming in on the show saying, uh, tgif. TGIF to you too, Ian. We also have Patrick saying, uh, good afternoon. Hi, Patrick. Welcome to the show. All right, nosy, let's get into what's trending.

Speaker B: Okay. Now, Hong Bin, have you ever aspired to star in a movie?

Speaker A: I'm m not a good actress.

Speaker B: Really?

Speaker A: Yes.

Speaker B: Okay.

Speaker A: I sometimes may be a drama queen, but not really. I don't think I'm made for acting.

Speaker B: Okay, fair point, Fair point.

Speaker A: What about you?

Speaker B: I always thought I would be an actor. Yeah. Because I used to do drama workshops back in school growing up, I guess in primary and also in secondary school. But I guess, you know, one thing led to another, and I'm here behind the mic with you on Money FM 89.3.

Speaker A: Well, speaking of drama classes, I actually took a drama class back in school as well. It was tough. I have stage fright.

Speaker B: Oh, okay. I thought you were going to say there was no spark, you know, no inspiration, you know, you didn't get inspired from that.

Speaker A: Um, I wanted to audition for a play that we had, and then at the last minute, I was like, nah, I would rather just play with my friends. So I Ditched the audition. Alright, Patrick saying hi again. Hi Patrick. Patrick, have you ever wanted to star in a movie? Let me know what's up. 885-508-93.

Speaker B: Well, if you want to try it out again, an opportunity has popped up because local filmmaker, uh, Jack Ngo says that a casting call is officially open for his upcoming movie called Ah Boys to Firemen.

Speaker A: Oh, all right, all right. Okay.

Speaker B: The edition is open to both males and females of all races aged between 20 and 30 years old. Oh, you made the cut off point.

Speaker A: Unfortunately, Nadia has not made the cut. She's not here today, but she's tuning in. I'm sorry, Nadia. Age is catching up to you.

Speaker B: I suppose.

Speaker A: So this is when age is a number. Patrick just replied to me. He said no, no, he doesn't want to be an actor.

Speaker B: Okay. Ok. Well Patrick, I don't know about you though. And also for the rest of us, I think we have a shot to be part of this film, you know.

Speaker A: Alright, so are you gonna go try to audition?

Speaker B: I mean here's the thing.

Speaker A: Okay.

Speaker B: The audition for this is quite unique because if you're keen on auditioning for Ah Boyz 2 Firemen, all you have to do is upload a video of yourself on social media. Yeah. And apparently all interested applicants are required to upload a 30 second to one minute video of themselves acting out a scene on Instagram for Facebook or TikTok and they have to tag J Team Productions and MM M M2 Entertainment, plus other hashtags that are relevant to it. And of course this is not sponsored at all. Yeah, I'm just reading out uh, the instructions for potential auditionees. Now prior acting experience is not required for sure, but it is a bonus according to Jack Miu's casting call here. But I think this is a very interesting approach to look for potential cast members. Hongbin.

Speaker A: I think it's a new thing. I see a lot of even films, Western films and directors. They were also calling for actors and actresses, you know, to do this kind of thing where you know, they were looking for people, not actors or actresses, just regular people to audition as well. I think that's a pretty cool concept because you know, you can find a hidden gem anywhere. Some people might not even think that they had a chance, but they could. So maybe I should try. If I get 5 WhatsApps at 888550893 telling me to go try, I will upload a video of myself auditioning for the Ah Boyz to Fireman movie on My social media.

Speaker B: Okay, okay.

Speaker A: So it's a very low ball. I'm just saying five.

Speaker B: Trust me, you'll eat your words before the day is over.

Speaker A: I have a feeling that not five people will text in saying I should audition.

Speaker B: Okay, so the Money FM listeners out there, Hongbin Jeong, has posed a challenge to you guys. We need five people to text in to tell Hongbin audition for a role. And of course, for those tuning in, let us know. Would you audition for a role in the upcoming Our Boyz 2 Firemen?

Speaker A: Or maybe I should have said 10.

Speaker B: She's scared already.

Speaker A: How many? I have Patrick saying do go ahead to try. Oh, dear. Uh, I thought you guys would not really trust my acting skills, but I'm Korean. Do I even fit the vibe of our, uh, boys to Fireman, please.

Speaker B: They already say that it is open to everyone, anyone male, female, as long as you fit the age range of 20 to 30 years old. So that means there is no restrictions for you. Hongbin, you could just post a video of your audition.

Speaker A: It's okay. I don't think five people will text in because I already only have one, so.

Speaker B: Okay.

Speaker A: Yep. I have faith.

Speaker B: Wow, she's very confident. But don't worry, there's still some time before the day is over. Now, what about, you know, the listeners out there? Tell us, would you audition for a role in the upcoming All Boys 2 Fireman movie? Because I got the list of scenes you could act out for your audition. Real here, Hongbin, if five people text in. Okay.

Speaker A: Okay.

Speaker B: There are four scene options to choose from, which can be performed in English, Mandarin, or, uh, both. And the scenes are. Okay, I'm going to read it out here. Scene number one, your mother discovering that you have been hiding your occupation from her. Scene number two, confronting a cheating partner. Scene number witnessing an accident where your friends rush to help, but you hesitate out of fear. And scene number four, explaining and apologizing for a mistake to a teammate. Now, after hearing all four of these, which scene would you try out to audition?

Speaker A: They seem all so hard.

Speaker B: Why is it so hard?

Speaker A: Your mother discovering that you have been hiding your occupation from her. Confronting a cheating partner, witnessing an accident where your friends rush to help but you hesitate out of fear, explaining and apologizing for a mistake to a teammate. Which scene? I don't.

Speaker B: Yeah. While you think we have lots of people texting in, don't lie. Yeah. So we have Ian, who says here, perhaps to audition as a small part as a firestarter or arsenest caliphate in the show. Ya, go for it. Okay, so a caliphate. So essentially you're just playing like a background role, etc. You could try that out. We have Peng Ho here. Hello, Peng Ho. Peng Ho says yes. Hongbin, go, go for edition. Go for ah, boys to fireman.

Speaker A: Can I change the. Do you hear? Why wait more?

Speaker B: And then we have, uh, David, I believe this is David Yeoh. Hi David. David says go ahead. Okay. And then one more person right here. Uh, let me see. Lw, uh, hello. Lw. Hb. Go for it. Try auditioning for a role. Let me count. Yeah, we have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Uh, whoa. New listener Cao Hong. Hello, Cao Hong. Thanks for tuning in. Go for it dj. Go, go, go. His name's Billy at the bottom. Okay, uh, Bill, have more people texting in. Continue to do so at 885-508-93. Now back to the conversation. Hongbin, which scene would you try out for?

Speaker A: I'm a little distracted here because I didn't expect a lot of people to come in. I think I set the bar too low. Can I change it to 10?

Speaker B: Sure, you can change it to 10. Alright, Money FM listeners, Hongbin says she needs 10 people texting in. As of now, we have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. We just need four more. Okay. Okay. Now, Hong Bin, you still haven't answered. Which scene would you try to use for?

Speaker A: I'll let, uh, our listeners choose.

Speaker B: Okay, for the listeners, if you're with us, there's four scenes, right? I'm going to read it out. You tell me, is it scene one, two, three or four that you want Hongbin to do? So scene one, your mother discovering that you have been hiding your occupation from her. Scene two, confronting a cheating partner. Scene three, witnessing an accident where your friends rush to help but you hesitate out of fear. And scene four, explaining and apologizing for a mistake to a teammate. That is the four scenes that Hongbin can try out to audition. Let us know. 885-508-993. Hongbin is very scared behind the mic right now.

Speaker A: I shouldn't have said what I said. I was just too excited.

Speaker B: Okay, okay. While we wait for the listeners to text. Did Hongbin. Somebody did an audition reel, right? And since you want to do it, I was thinking maybe we should help you out here.

Speaker A: Okay.

Speaker B: Okay. So a lot of it, unfortunately I can't play out because of, you know, they're trying to replicate the ah, uh, boys, two men feel, which includes amount of profanities being used. But here's one that got Me laughing the whole night. Have a listen.

Speaker C: We can't grill, we can't deliver. But yet they don't want to be fun. The day after tomorrow is already Chinese New Year. Okay, so everybody keep asking for their orders. They say I buy Bak Kwa from my boss. My boss haven't received the Bak Kwa. Later my boss don't give me a raise. Later my boss don't increase my bonus or because of you, uh, now I don't have my increased bonus because you never sent the Bak Kwa. So all our deliveries are uh, late for one to two days and everybody be angry. So now we work 247 just to grill the Bak Kwa. And because we have done so right then our shop is now on fire. Already how it started Fire manager has removed the charcoal. Others the fire wouldn't stop because it's flammable. It's not induction, it's not combi oven. It's charcoal. Uh, sorry, sorry. My fellow customer, please don't come for self collection already because now we got police here already. Yourself collection, please wait for two more days.

Speaker A: What is going on?

Speaker B: Okay, well credit to that, that was Sim Bien Chua who is the founder of Century Ba Kwa. Now Hong Bien, I'm not sure if you remember this news earlier a fire had broken out at her Ba Kwa shop two days before Chinese New Year. And this lady, mind you, she is very, very smart because she had compiled a list of her media interviews when the media outlets went to cover, uh, the fire that broke out at her shop and she put it as an audition reel. Okay, and she just captioned it as Jack Nieuw is working on a new movie set to release this Chinese New Year 2027. It's called Ah, Boys to fireman. How can I be Left out? Our boys 2 firemen ABTF2027 this confidence the woman has, I tell you, that's

Speaker A: a very good market. If she was trying her at it

Speaker B: right, I'm not even going to be surprised if she already has a deal. Cut out with Jack Neo for this as a cameo. Okay, uh, well, thanks for texting in Ian. Ian says Hong Bin do scene two La. Uh, catch the cheating partner scene.

Speaker A: Cheating partner?

Speaker B: Yeah, Patrick says the same too. Scene two. Well, to be fair, you did say you're a dramatic person.

Speaker A: I am a dramatic person, but I. Who's my cheating partner? Can you be my cheating partner? Nazi me?

Speaker B: You want me to be your cheating partner?

Speaker A: Okay, we'll act this scene together and maybe we can land two roles.

Speaker B: Uh, okay, sure, I guess. Two for one, right? One reel for two different roles. I guess that will work out in the end.

Speaker A: But hold up. I said I changed to 10. I'm sorry, I changed. Um, do we have 10?

Speaker B: We have one more new listener, so that's seven. Now. Uh, Mr. Cheong says, hey, Hong Bin Jeong, count my vote in for you to go and try. Okay? And he says scene two as well. Everybody loves. They want to see you act out the cheating partner scene so much. That is.

Speaker A: I am in a loving relationship at the moment. I don't know how it feels to confront a cheating partner.

Speaker B: Well, to be fair, I think because, well, we all have established that you're our resident South Korean DJ here on Money fm. So they maybe want to see the potential K drama actress in you, you know?

Speaker A: Oh, dear. Yeah, and then maybe we can end the scene with, uh. No, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker C: You are my everything.

Speaker B: Oh, that would be very, very hilarious.

Speaker A: And then we have a subway ad at.

Speaker B: Oh, of course. Everybody knows that we've jagged. Your product placement is everywhere.

Speaker A: Right?

Speaker B: We could always do that. Now, uh, Ian texted in. Okay, Ian, you're on fire right now. Hb Come on. Put your Korean drama queen acting skill to good use. Exactly, exactly. Everyone wants to see you act out.

Speaker A: Honestly, I've seen a lot of reels, um, blowing up on my social media page where people are acting and doing this edition for this role. It's very entertaining, it's very fun to watch, and I have the competition cut out for me. I don't think I will make it. Even if I made a video. Would it even make it to Jack Neu's page?

Speaker B: Well, they did say, or more like you did say earlier, that this is a chance for people to find a hidden gem.

Speaker A: I know, I know that. This is not my hidden gem.

Speaker B: You know, hey, hidden talents can pop up, uh, whenever they can. Okay? But honestly, how many Arbours II man movies do we actually need? Uh, at this point? Right? We've covered everything. Right.

Speaker A: But I love them. I honestly love them. I think this is the one series of Singaporean movies that I really enjoy watching.

Speaker B: Oh, okay.

Speaker A: It's a very iconic thing and I wish the continual Jack Nieuw continues to make different series of ah, Boys two.

Speaker B: Whatever.

Speaker A: You know, maybe the next time it'll be ah, Boys two Radio dj. Who knows?

Speaker B: Ah, Boys two Radio dj. Okay, that sounds like a promising plot line down there. But then again, how do you think the plot is going to go this time around. Because I've seen you create number of creators making skits on this. Right. And you've seen it as well. The plot lines are very funny. Do you see the one by, I believe, Nicoliel, one of our guests that was on the show?

Speaker A: I have not.

Speaker B: Oh, she did a skit where a couple of friends. So she did skit number three, I believe. Witnessing an accident where your friends rush to help, but you hesitate out of fear. And she did it, uh, in a sense where they're saving a friend who's drowning in the bathtub. Even that considered as an audition reel. Very interesting right there.

Speaker A: I think someone else, one of the creators, I forgot his name, um, but he pulled out. I think he is part of, uh. Don't quote me on this. But he did this storyline that he wanted to see it happening. So he was talking about how, uh, there was this one. Maybe the storyline could be that, uh. You know how, uh, there's a lot of Malay community as firemen, and then one Chinese boy joins the crew, but he's not able to associate with the Malay community. And then he's trying his way to kind of, um, compete. Because in his family he has a brother and he needs to be better than his brother. And then there is this main rival. Right. Um, and then that person is also trying to be better than his brothers. And then it's kind of. That kind of moment, I guess. But it was a good storyline.

Speaker B: Yeah. I think that is such a perfect way to bridge the, you know, the racial community together. Yeah, exactly.

Speaker A: Like one harmony.

Speaker B: Yeah. Because I think at the end of the day, what we want to see on screen is our communities being represented. And that's the beauty of this our Boys 2 Men franchise right here. But what is your favourite our Boyz 2 Men movie so far? I believe I asked you this before, didn't I?

Speaker A: Yeah, I think our Boys II Men won one.

Speaker B: Right? You liked the first one. Any particular reason why you liked the first one?

Speaker A: Usually I always just like the first movie of everything.

Speaker B: You do realize the first and the second one are related, right? They're essentially one movie.

Speaker A: Yes, but I still remember our, uh, Boys two one. I don't really remember our Boyz two to man two.

Speaker B: Ah. Uh, okay, okay, fair point. My favorite is actually our Boyz II Men 3 Frogman, because when I was in NS, I was in the exact same camp that they filmed it.

Speaker A: So it's, like, relatable to you.

Speaker B: Yeah, it was quite, uh. When I saw the camps, I was like, oh, My God. This is the exact same buildings. Okay, well, continue Texting in at 885-50893. Come on, I just need three more people so that Hongbin can post an audition reel. Now, Ian says okay, uh, after the audition ends, accompany it by background song Goodbye by hwasa. Ian, you have a very specific way that audition wants to do her audition reel.

Speaker A: Ian, you should come down here to sph and then direct my audition reel for me.

Speaker B: Or better yet, become your agent, your talent manager.

Speaker A: All right, keep The WhatsApps coming in. 8855 0893. Earlier I said that if I've got 10 messages from you guys, then I will try my shot at auditioning for this open casting call for, ah, uh, boys to firemen. A lot of you guys asked me to act out scene, uh, two, which is confronting a cheating partner. So if you've got any thoughts, if you want me to join in and or if you want to audition as well, let us know your thoughts. What's up, 885-508-93. Continue messaging us, but I'm gonna leave what's trending with one Jack new? Got room for a Korean? For more conversations and podcasts, visit Money FM893SG.
