The Knowing Self Knowing Others Podcast ranks #3974 on The B2B Podcast Index with a substance score of 56.0 out of 100, scored across 1 recent episode. It scores highest on guest caliber and insight density. Dr. Carden has legitimate academic credentials (PhD on self-awareness, Henley Business School visiting tutor) and 17 years of consultancy practice, which earns credibility in the coaching domain; however, she is primarily a coach-educator rather than a senior B2B operator who has built or scaled an organisation, limiting her direct relevance to the B2B practitioner audience.

There are a handful of genuine distinctions - self-consciousness as the intrapersonal component, self-knowledge as the output of self-awareness work, and the 'customer in the shop' readiness framing - but the episode is heavily padded with book promotion, mutual admiration between two people with overlapping research, and standard coaching platitudes (journaling, daily questions, atomic habits references).
“self-knowledge is the output of self-awareness. It's the part of doing the work.”
“Oh, I don't need anybody. I'm very self-aware. alarm bells”
The academic differentiation of self-consciousness, self-awareness, and self-knowledge is a modest original contribution grounded in a systematic literature review, but virtually every practical idea is borrowed from named third parties - Goldsmith, Showett, Nancy Kline, Atomic Habits - with little first-principles or contrarian argument of Julia's own.
“self-consciousness is the intra-personal components of self-awareness the inner bit i value beliefs inner motivations inner needs”
“are they a customer are they a customer for coaching are they a customer to do some work on themselves and are they a customer to do that work with me”

“my last formal job in the navy was to work in the Admiralty interview board where they assess and select potential Royal Naval, Royal Marine officers”
“the main research focus is what is the role of self-awareness and the development of the executive coach”
The episode is almost entirely conceptual - PhD findings are described in vague terms ('deep connection to self') with no quantitative results cited, no named client case studies, no business metrics, and no concrete outcomes. The only specifics are bibliographic (book release date, named researchers) rather than substantive evidence.
“I did three distinct studies and there was and I did it by publication so there was a paper associated with each of the studies”
“as a team, we really made changes that were very visible and very obvious to our team based on the feedback”
The host's questions are topically coherent but consistently soft and affirming; this functions as a promotional interview for the guest's forthcoming book rather than a rigorous intellectual conversation. There is no meaningful pushback, no challenging of claims, and frequent filler affirmations that interrupt momentum.
“that's amazing and there are so many similarities as you're talking about”
“So we've talked about your book very briefly. It's going to be available in October 2025.”

Dr. Nia is an excellent interviewer with a sharp mind. It is impossible to listen to this podcast and not to learn something!
- Jim Salvucci
Self-awareness is a critical skill to develop and unfortunately there is only a small percentage of the world who takes the time to examine their motivation, thinking and behavior and make significant changes. Nia Thomas knows how to ask the right questions and open up the discussion for greater knowledge. Really enjoyed our conversation.
