Five dimensions, 20 points each
Show Me the Crypto's annual prediction challenge delivers a humbling retrospective on 2025 forecasts that missed badly across the board. Bitcoin predictions of $220k and $198k fell flat at $126k; Ethereum targets of $13.5k-$14.3k never materialized as it stalled under $5k; Solana projections of $880-$1800 actually peaked at $293 in January. Both hosts acknowledge their research-heavy approach yielded nothing, so Wade pivots to zero preparation this year. Rather than repeat the forecasting gaffe, they introduce a new competitive format: a snake-draft portfolio challenge where Wade, Ulf, and ChatGPT each allocate $500 across five top-100 cryptocurrencies, judged at a December 15, 2026 snapshot. Rules exclude wrapped tokens, staked versions, stablecoins, and synthetic assets tracking stocks. Ulf opens with Solana (positioned as crypto's Google with significant upside); Wade counters with Bitcoin as a volatility hedge; ChatGPT selects Ethereum for its DeFi settlement layer dynamics and Chainlink for real-world asset adoption; Ulf picks Bittensor (Tao) as an AI-themed moonshot; Wade chooses Monero, citing the privacy coin surge and growing demand for financial privacy.
Bitcoin was predicted at $220k-$198k but peaked at $126k; Ethereum was predicted at $13.5-14.3k but never broke $5k; Solana was predicted at $880-$1800 but peaked at $293 in January - all significantly overestimated.
Each competitor picks five top-100 cryptocurrencies with a $500 budget in a snake-draft format, evaluated on December 15, 2026; wrapped versions, staked versions, stablecoins, and synthetic assets tracking stocks are prohibited.
Bitcoin serves as a volatility hedge; Wade expects it to hold support around $60-70k even in a bear market and doesn't move as dramatically as altcoins, making it a safe foundational pick.
Bittensor (Tao) is described as the AI-themed moonshot pick; it recently voted on a 50% supply reduction which could drive price appreciation, and Ulf positions it to benefit from broader AI infrastructure investment trends.
Privacy coins surged because they represent genuine use-case value disconnected from speculation - offering features unavailable in traditional finance at a time when financial privacy is becoming increasingly important.
Our reviewer’s read on each dimension, with quotes from the episode.
The episode is almost entirely prediction recap entertainment and a casual draft game with no actionable frameworks or non-obvious claims. The few gestures toward insight - privacy coins gaining due to surveillance trends, Tron as a bear-market hedge - are stated in one sentence and never substantiated.
I always find that bitcoin, it never moves more dramatically one way or the other
I think as we move forward, privacy is going to be incredibly important with just all sorts of things that are being proposed
Every narrative deployed is a well-worn crypto cliché - Bitcoin as gold, Litecoin as silver, XRP as 'banking crypto,' Solana as 'the Google of crypto.' There is zero first-principles reasoning or contrarian argument anywhere in the episode.
kind of like the Google of crypto is what I'm going to
XRP, it's kind of like the, the crypto token of the, the banking sector
There are no guests whatsoever. The two hosts are self-described hobbyist friends who explicitly admit they have not been following the market and have had limited sleep and 'touched grass.' ChatGPT is introduced as the third 'competitor,' which adds nothing of substance.
We're a couple of friends from Canada who love learning about cryptocurrencies
I became a dad earlier this year and that has kept me very busy with limited sleep
The episode does cite real price figures pulled live from CoinGecko (Bitcoin ~$125-126k peak, ETH sub-$5k, SOL ATH $293, Doge ~41 cents), but these are screen-reads during the show, not researched evidence supporting any analytical claim. Pick rationales are almost entirely assertion-only.
The bitcoin price, I believe it was October 6th. So I guess the month. And it was around 125, $126,000
Ethereum did not break 5,000. According to CoinGecko, it got very close in August
There is no interviewing craft because there is no guest. The two hosts ask each other non-probing questions and never challenge any stated rationale. The only moment of light pushback is Wade correcting ChatGPT's factually wrong claim about Avalanche with actual price data, which is a small positive in an otherwise uncritical chat.
What are your thoughts on what Ethereum did or perhaps more correct, didn't do this here?
I'm looking at the year over year chart and Avalanche was at about $39 a year ago and it's trading at 11.66 now

Speaker A: Well, hi there and welcome to this special episode of Show Me the Crypto. My name is Wade Patterson and I'm Alph lonergren. We're a couple of friends from Canada who love learning about cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, and we're happy you're along for the ride, whether you're a crypto virgin or you know your way around the block. We hope our interviews with some of the most intelligent and influential people in the blockchain space help deliver you with value. But this is not an interview show today. And you may have noticed those loyal fans of Show Me the Crypto, we haven't done an interview show in quite some time.
Speaker B: A real long time.
Speaker A: It's been a real long time. Full transparency. I became a dad earlier this year and that has kept me very busy with limited sleep. This is a true treat to be out over at all's plays recording this episode. And so we wanted to take some time off. What were you doing this year?
Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, for me, I mean, I didn't become a dad, but it was just nice to take some. Take a break, take some time to myself, touch grass, you know, um, stay away from the computer for a little bit. So, yeah, no, it's been a good
Speaker A: year and what a weird year it's been. We're gonna dive into this because last year, we do this every year. We like to have a bit of a prediction show and we always make it a competition. Ulf versus wait. Going into this year, I believe Ulf was up 20 in the competition. So this was my year for revenge. I was hoping to get back in this. So we're going to go through the results of that. We've cooked up a new challenge for 2026, so we're going to do that and then maybe toward the end, we'll talk a little bit about the future of the show, what next year might look like before we get into that off. Cheers.
Speaker B: Cheers, buddy.
Speaker A: To a hell of a year.
Speaker B: Yeah, little, uh, local backhanded God. Nice. Nice dark beer.
Speaker A: If you're ever in Kelowna bc, BNA is the place to go for Backhan of God. So last year, what we did for the challenge was we had predictions for four different cryptocurrencies, some top tens. So we had Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and Doge. And we each had to predict this was going into a bull market, or so we thought. Each had to give a prediction on what the top price would be throughout the year and what month that Peak price price would have. So the person who is closest to the top correct price, whether over, under that didn't matter, got a point. So every coin, somebody's getting a point. And then if you happen to guess the month that it happened in, that was a bonus point. And then at the end we had a long shot competition that I'll get into where it was basically picking a coin that was 150 or worse in coin gecko and trying to predict which one would crawl into or climb into the top 100. So Bitcoin was first up. Ulf, do you remember what your prediction was?
Speaker B: I was kind of laughing there because, uh, I have paid no attention since then to what my predictions were. I have no clue. So my reactions to the results here are going to be 100% genuine. I have no idea how this is going to go.
Speaker A: I love it. I had a foggy memory, but I did some research prior to the show. So Ulf's prediction for Bitcoin was that it would hit $220,000 US and, and that that would happen in September. Wade's prediction was that it would hit $198,000 US and then it would happen in October. The bitcoin price, I believe it was October 6th. So I guess the month. And it was around 125, $126,000.
Speaker B: Okay.
Speaker A: We were both way off.
Speaker B: We were way off. But you were way closer.
Speaker A: But that was our closest of guess for all the coins. So that foreshadowing of. By the way, needless to say, none of this is financial advice, but it shouldn't be. Like if you've watched these prediction shows, you know how far off we've been on some of these predictions. And so I actually took a 2 nothing lead after Bitcoin here, uh, against all.
Speaker B: I got a bad start, bad start, bad start. Things to come.
Speaker A: Maybe, maybe or maybe not. Ethereum, uh, was next up. Ulf's prediction was that it would get to $13,500. My prediction was that it was going to get to $14,300. Ulf was closer because Ethereum did not break 5,000. According to CoinGecko, it got very close in August. August is when it peaked. Your prediction for the month that would peak was October. I predicted November. No bonus points, but you get a point for being closer with Ethereum.
Speaker B: All right, well, closer, but still not close. We were very as, as least for these first two bets. We'll see how the other ones go. But wow, we were, uh, bullish. We were quite bullish.
Speaker A: But let's talk about this. So like what are your thoughts on what Ethereum did or perhaps more correct, didn't do this here?
Speaker B: I think Ethereum was in particular, you know Ethereum, it's looked at in crypto as one of the, one of the blue chips. Right. It's been around one of the longest, one of the biggest communities, one of the most used blockchains. And so I think there was reason to believe that it would have its, its moment. Um, but I think it's caused a lot of frustration and disappointment for investors in Ethereum. Um, because yeah, wow. Did it ever not perform? I mean you know, comparing it to big brother Bitcoin, while bitcoin maybe didn't get it, you know, near the predictions we had, Bitcoin did not do terrible. I mean you know things are dipping in the moment right now but it all to act. But yeah, it had a nice run. It had a nice run. Ethereum, very disappointing I think for pretty much everyone. So um, yeah, yeah. What are your thoughts exactly?
Speaker A: That I think so I remember going into last year I predicted 14,300 which I don't think is a crazy prediction, that would have only been about a 3x from the previous all time high. And if you go back to previous cycles where we saw way bigger multiplier increases and so I thought I was baking in the law of diminishing returns as well but clearly something has changed with this four year cycle theory. I, I wanted to cling on to it because it had happened a few times but this year was such an indicator and uh, now I'm scratching my head, I don't know what will happen going forward but it certainly didn't perform. I didn't think it was going to hang around 14,000 long. I thought it would probably hang around the 10,000 and then it might shoot up really quickly and Right. Fall dramatically closer to 5, 6, 7K and, and hang out there in the bare market. But now like what's the price right now if we pull this up we're looking at yeah 2900 ETH, which is like yeah 60% of what the previous all time high was. And it's just been bizarre that way. And so Ethereum really, really surprised me.
Speaker B: Yeah, Let me just even go back. What, let's just look at this and look at like a one year timeline. Okay. So one year ago. Oh wait, wait. Yeah, yeah, that's December 23rd, 2021 year ago. Here we are. It was higher, like it was 3400 and now here we are today and you can see here had a huge dump for the first three or four months after our predictions. And it did have a nice rise following that, but like not in the grand scheme of things. And now it's pulled right back down to, you know, at the end of the day you could pretty much average that out and be like it's been sideways. So.
Speaker A: Oh, and if you think about it, right, like. So going back to our predictions, our timing of year, especially for Bitcoin and Ethereum. I mean Bitcoin, I predicted it. Ethereum. We were within a couple of months. You were within one month of it. Sorry, two months. But like that would play out how we're predicting. So if we see this huge dip and then the run up or in August and we're about to break through, we hit that previous all time high surpass it. Everyone's thinking, okay, we're gonna get into price discovery, where are things gonna go? And so even in August I really thought our predictions were in play.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker A: And yeah, it's just, it's, it's, it's been a head scratcher. So that was Ethereum. Um, next up was Solana. By the way, this is descending in terms of how close we were on prediction. So if you thought that was far off, buckle up. UL's prediction is that one soul would get to $880 US and that that would happen in October as well. October was the guess Wade predicted. So if we go to it, we actually see that January, January was Solana's all time high. So just a month after recording that, we did hit the all time high for Solana, which was about $297 I believe. Yeah, yeah, 297 is where it got to. If you scroll down here, does it have all time high? Yeah, there we go. All time high. Sorry, 293 which happened in January 19th. And so our predictions were off on the guesses. Ulf, guest. October, I guess November. But off said 880 for Solana. I said 1800 US a thousand more than that. Wow, was I off? Way off. Ulf, you've just tied it two.
Speaker B: Two. Okay.
Speaker A: And so this is where things are not looking so good for, for Wade who's 02 going into this year. And then we get into Doge and the prediction there is the actual. I think Doge only got. You can pull it up there because I'm not 100% sure on this, but it was 40 something cents. And I think it also happened in January. So January was the Peak for both Solana and Doge. It's not going to be the all time high. So yeah, we'll do the year over year. You can see it up on the screen there. Yeah, just over 40, 41, 41, 42, something like that. Uh, so that's where Doge got in. January, Ulf had predicted that it would. We knew it would be earlier in the year. Off predicted March, Wade predicted, I predicted April. All thought it would get to A$20. I thought it would get to $4.20 which means Ulf is up 3, 2 going into the wild card. And this is where I take issue because do you remember what your wild card pick was?
Speaker B: I don't even remember. Oh wait, uh, maybe was uh, it hype?
Speaker A: No, it was not hype.
Speaker B: No, I don't remember.
Speaker A: Dog, go to the moon.
Speaker B: Oh yeah, right. Okay.
Speaker A: Yeah, uh, go ahead and search for Dog. Go to the moon.
Speaker B: Dude, that thing's probably disappeared. Probably doesn't even exist anymore. There she is.
Speaker A: Bridge to the Merlin Chain. Wasn't it supposed to be on runes or something like that?
Speaker B: Yeah, I think that's right.
Speaker A: Like let's look at the chart. Let's go to the max chart.
Speaker B: Let's not go to the max chart. Oh yeah. She's a dead one. She's a dead one.
Speaker A: I don't know. I hadn't followed it. There was something about runes that is
Speaker B: like this was not existent the, the rune creator. This was his coin. I think. I think that that was my theory and there's something about that.
Speaker A: So that was your guess. Did not make it to the top 100. There's not even a ranking here.
Speaker B: So we can, we can consider that going to zero.
Speaker A: Yes.
Speaker B: Yeah.
Speaker A: And then for mine it was Turbo, which was my dark horse the year
Speaker B: before for sure has done. Um, it didn't get to top 100 though. At least.
Speaker A: So the rules for this.
Speaker B: Yeah, what were the rules? How to get in.
Speaker A: You had to get in top 100 in order to get a bonus point. So that would have only tied it for me. But I'm at 368 so it went the wrong direction. So off.
Speaker B: Wow. Uh, well done.
Speaker A: And Turbo doesn't look too great either. Pretty big uh, dip, but better than doggo to the moon.
Speaker B: Yeah, but what was the. I'm interested in the year chart here. Yeah, I mean it's not like a dyed died. Although it's kind of. I mean it's definitely fizzling from the. Would have been a bad.
Speaker A: Still got hope bad investment. Yeah. So this is the challenge this year and like we uh, clearly were so far off base last year. This year who the hell knows what's going to happen?
Speaker B: Yeah, this puts us in an interesting place for. So the challenge is going to be a little different this year but it is still predictions. But this puts us in a, we're in a very different place. Right. Like we were coming in last year, there was some momentum the previous year we had reason to believe with the four year cycle that there was, you know, there was hope for some a uh, really strong bull case going into 2025. We don't have that right now. Right now we have uncertainty and that is, that's pretty much it. That's all we got. So nobody knows what's going to happen in the next year. I don't think, ah, I don't think anyone knows with any confidence. I don't think there's a lot of people out there being like, even though it's all just guessing anyways. We're not in that scenario that world right now where people are like, oh, I know what's going to happen. I got a crystal ball. Like no, everybody's. Nobody has a crystal ball right now. We're all confused and unsure with how the future is going to play out. So it makes this next challenge interesting.
Speaker A: Definitely. Yeah. And I'm excited because here's the deal. The last three years, which I have lost, I'm now 03 in these prediction challenges. I have spent days doing research, looking at the charts, thinking about previous years, trying to weigh in and factor in things like law of diminishing returns and where has it gotten me? 0 and 3. That's where it's gotten me. So this year I did zero prep. I haven't even thought about the challenge because I had to change the strategy and, and so please, for the love of God, do not take this as financial advice. My goal in picking my portfolio is that I will remain even if I can remain even with this because I still tend to think if I had to have a guess that things will go further south and that we will probably enter a deeper bear market. But here's how it works. Alf and myself and chat GPT we're adding in a third competitor here we all have a challenge of picking five top 100 cryptocurrencies. Some of you may remember a couple of years ago we did this type of challenge where each crypto you get a budget of $100 to put into five different. So a total budget of $500 and the idea is that we're going to do a snake draft in picking our different coins. We're going to start with Alf. Then I will take my first pick. Then chat GPT will do pick number one and it will do pick number two. Then I'll do pick number two. Al will do pick number two and pick number three. And we'll go back and forth until we have all five picks. The rules are you can't pick a coin that's already been taken by somebody else. You can't pick a wrapped version or a synthetic version of that coin. Something that has been wrapped, you can't pick a staked version. You can't pick a stable coin.
Speaker C: And.
Speaker A: And what am I missing?
Speaker B: Uh, I don't know if you said like an acid background, but like you couldn't pick like pax G or like, like a. Something that's just, I guess like a synthetic that's really like a synthetic, but something that is just, uh, following a stock or something along those lines.
Speaker A: Gotcha. Yeah. So this is the rules. We'll see how it goes. We're each building it out. So Ulf, you have the honors. First pick.
Speaker B: Okay. Uh, what are you going with? Okay, I do have some pre picked options, but I only got five. So if somebody picks one of mine, I'm gonna have to scramble. Uh, here. I'm not sure. Yeah. All right. So my first pick. Based off what we just went through, this is probably a terrible pick. But I'm gonna go with Solana. All right. My first pick o taken Salana. All right. And I, I do have some notes as to why, which I will not remember all these notes by myself or off the top of my head. So let me read these out. Um, so my reasoning for this is a kind of like the Google of crypto is what I'm going to. That's how I'm positioning this, um, safest as a growth bet. So for me, figure I've tried to pick some coins for different reasons, and this one is if things do go positive, then I think Solana, uh, has a lot of room to grow. You know, I think it's in a place where it's obviously hasn't looked great over the last year, but that's the case for probably most coins. But if things do go good, I think Solana will do well. Um, and yeah, it's a foundational coin.
Speaker A: It's.
Speaker B: It's another sort of blue chip in a sense, but one with a lot of a, uh, lot of room. You know, the, the ceiling has not been found. We just need to get back into that bull market to, to really see where it goes. So that's my pick for my, my first coin.
Speaker A: All right. Solana is off the board. My first coin. I'm going to pick bitcoin. The reason I'm going to pick bitcoin is that when markets do go south, I always find that bitcoin, it never moves more dramatically one way or the other. So this is a good hedge. I find that if things are moving, I mean, stables is the place you probably want to be in when you're really heading into a bear market. But if it's most alts versus bitcoin, bitcoin will dip. I fully expect bitcoin to go down into the 60 thousands, maybe the 70 thousands which was the previous bull run all time high. I always think that's a pretty good stability level. I'd be surprised if bitcoin dips back into like 40, 30 territory, you know, but I think that's as far as it will go. And we're doing a snapshot. I don't know if we mentioned this before, but the portfolio is for December 15, 2026. So that's the only date that matters. So we're really throwing a dart with these predictions because we have no idea what will pop off when, when all of these things will happen. But I think just as a general hedge, a safe first pick, I'm going to go with Bitcoin. Plus, in last year's challenge, bitcoin was. I got two points out of it. That was the only place I succeeded. So, okay, so now we have on the screen chat GPT and we've already explained the parameters. It says, okay, Wadolph, I understand your challenge. Here's how it's going to work. I understand the snapshot, the time horizon. So we're just going to update it here and say, hey, chat all picked Solana Wade picked bitcoin. You're up with picks one and two. Please explain your picks. Okay, chat picks. Ethereum why structural winner thesis theorem remains the dominant settlement layer for D5 monetary dynamics. Structurally deflationary during periods of network usage.
Speaker B: You know, just to talk to before we cover both here. Just to talk to chat gbt's pick, I mean ETH is is still. We just touched on the fact it's been like a mystery right, for this last year, but is uh, still evolving so much as far as uh, as far as the technology behind the blockchain, as far as the tokenomics go. And I think it is still very much has potential at some point to pop off. Will that be this next year? Again, we have no idea. But I think it's a good pick. I think it's a good, it's a great pick.
Speaker A: It was my next pick. I'm pissed. I'm pissed that Chad GPD picked Ethereum. And then it's pick number two, Chain Link. It says real adoption, not narrative. So it's embedded in defy RWAs and real world assets and institutional blockchain infrastructure breaks down all of the reasons it historically lags and then violently reprices when adoption inflects.
Speaker B: Smart. This was gonna be one of my picks. I had this on my list.
Speaker A: Yeah.
Speaker B: And I, I did take it off. So luckily they didn't. Uh, Chat GBD didn't just steal one of my five, but it was one of my five. So, uh, probably for the best I took it off. So I'm not to be too mad right now.
Speaker A: Wait, Ethereum wasn't one of yours?
Speaker B: It was not. It was not. It was. So I don't get me wrong, I had very heavily thought about Ethereum, but I ended up swapping for Soul. And uh, the way I spread out my picks, I didn't want to pick sort of two in that realm that I felt were sort of doing the same thing for my portfolio. And that's how I weighed out, uh, Ethereum and Solana.
Speaker A: Okay, so Chat's got its two picks, Ethereum and Chain Link. Up to me now for pick number two. And I am gonna go with Monero. Monero. And we're talking about this before we hit record of how privacy coins just had this crazy year. We'll pull up the char it.
Speaker B: Yeah, it's wild.
Speaker A: And so both zcash. Monero. Like, if you look at that, is this the one year that we have? Uh, that's the max. So if we pull up the one year significant gains and this is. I'm always a little bit fearful when something's gone up. Quite a bit of like, okay, is it now going to dip? But I do think as we move forward, privacy is going to be incredibly important with just all sorts of things that are being proposed. Heck, not to get too political, but with talking about, okay, if you want to travel to the United States, they're going to try and track your social media for the last five years. Like, I think we're just getting into this era where people are going to value more and more their privacy. And this is one of the great features of certain cryptocurrencies and Monero, it is an og, it has been around a long time. If we look at the max chart, what's it showing on Coingecko, I think
Speaker B: it's impressive to see. It's all is really, it is relatively speaking very close to its all time high. Huh?
Speaker A: Yeah, exactly. So again this might be a bit of a risk, but it's something that's been around a long time. I remember when I entered the space in 2016, Monero was a name that I had heard. Man, look at how it popped off. What year was this? It's all time high. So that was 2017, still not at those levels. So perhaps it could go even higher. It's so tough to know where we'll be in the cycle. But I have to choose Monero for my second pick.
Speaker B: Yeah, I mean I cannot hate on that pick to look at that chart compared to most other altcoin charts. And zcash too looks great. And I mean there's, it makes me feel good because it goes back to, it gives me some uh, positive positivity in the sense of uh, people coming back to crypto for what it actually offers. And in this case this is like, this is a true core feature that you cannot get in the traditional banking system. And so much of crypto has gone back to uh, just like speculation coins, how like make money quick and it has nothing to do with the actual benefits that are offered through blockchain technology. And these privacy coins have real use case, real value from that use case and it's great to see the momentum behind that here.
Speaker A: Totally. All right, so now you've got picks two and three in the Snake draft.
Speaker B: All right, all right, so as I talk about that here I am about to shill a coin that uh, is really just my gamble play, one of my gamble plays. But um, I'm going to go with where's the search here? I'm going to go with Tao. We'll pull it up here. I don't know if that's actually how you say, but bit tensor. So bit tensor. The reason I'm going for this play um, is because this is sort of like the, the bitcoin of AI or the AI of bitcoin, however you want to say it. You know, it's one of the biggest uh, AI based blockchain coins. Uh, they're all, they also just have their supply in like this month, um, or at least voted on it. So that's a 50% cut in the supply. Uh, and that could lead to again A price jump. Not necessarily right away, but maybe within the next six months. And of course, really this is, this is just me going off the trend of AI, you know, everything related to AI, um, as it continues to grow in popularity and in use case, uh, when you look at it from an investment and speculation standpoint, people may continue to say, well, I'm gonna dump my money into the AI crypto. And I think Tao, is that all right. My moonshot, my moonshot option. This one's either going up or is. It's going to look like that chart. Dog, Dog, go, whatever it's called, it's going to go straight down.
Speaker A: So I haven't followed Bittensor too much looking at this chart though. I mean that there's some ugly looking charts in the last year and this looks pretty calm compared to some of them.
Speaker B: It does. Like obviously it's not a great place right now compared to this chart, but really it looks pretty sideways. So. Yeah, not terrible.
Speaker A: All right, what's your pick? Number three?
Speaker B: Oh, yeah. Pick number three. All right. Back to back. Okay, this one. I genuinely like this one. I'm gonna go with Hype. So Hype had a lot of hype this year. It was, uh, sort of, you know, one of the biggest launches and had a lot of traction, a lot of growth. And then thing, you know, there was some drama, there was some, um, things fizzled out. There was some challenges with it. But overall the reason I like this one because as a trading platform, they actually make a lot of money. Like Hype itself generates a lot of revenue. Uh, so from that sense it has intrinsic value in actually generating income. Um, they also just burned a billion tokens in December as deflationary. And yeah, it's got a profitable business model. So I don't know, I think there's a lot to like there and I think its popularity will continue. So. Yeah, one of my picks where.
Speaker A: Why am I not seeing height?
Speaker B: Uh, right there. 29. Ah, uh, gotcha.
Speaker A: Okay, that's a good pick. All right, so I'm up now for pick number three. And this one, uh. Ah, I'm torn. Right. Do I take the like really stable route or do I take a chance? You know what? No, I'm gonna be. I'm gonna be boring. I think I'm gonna be boring. I'm gonna go with litecoin. I'm gonna go with some OGs that have stood around for the test of time and they're just kind of boring. I've always thought if bitcoin's the Gold. I think of Litecoin as the silver one. We've had Charlie Lee on the podcast in the past. He talked a little bit about litecoin and it's just one of those that you never expect it to do. Too crazy. But also it's not probably going to go away right now sitting 30 in the top 100. And so I'm being boring this year. The slow, steady, reliable, boring picks, that's what I'm going with. So Litecoin is my pick for number three.
Speaker B: I like it. It hasn't, uh, gone away. It hasn't gone away yet. It's probably not gonna go away next year.
Speaker A: So we just had our chatgpt pics erased on the computer. So I've got the voice app going as well. Just explain the parameters to chat on my phone. So she understands everything that's been picked so far. She's up now for picks number three and four. Chat, what are you going with?
Speaker C: All right, got it. So I'll jump right in and give you my picks number three and four. I think I'll go with something a little interesting. For pick number three, let's choose Avalanche Avax. It's a solid layer one and has a lot of growth potential. And for the fourth pick, let's go with something a bit different like the graph, because indexing protocols might be really useful in a few years. So there you go. Avax and GRT are our picks.
Speaker A: What are your thoughts on how Avax did in this year? In 2025?
Speaker C: Yeah, absolutely. So Avax, you know, it actually had a pretty solid year in 2025. It kind of solidified itself as one of Those reliable layer 1 blockchains that people trust. Um, it didn't have any, you know, major explosive growth moments, but it stayed pretty steady and gained a bit of traction, especially in the defi space. So overall, a decent pick for a long term hold.
Speaker A: Um, I'm looking at the year over year chart and Avalanche was at about $39 a year ago and it's trading at 11.66 now.
Speaker C: Ah. Uh, gotcha. So, yeah, it's definitely had a bit of a dip this past year. Then I guess that just goes to show the market can be a bit unpredictable even for solid projects like Avalanche. But hey, that might mean it's a good value pick for the long run. So let's see how it plays out.
Speaker A: Okay, sounds good. Chat. Just hold tight. You don't need to do anything until we instruct you. We're going to keep going with the show okay, so so far Chat's got Ethereum, Chain Link, Avalanche, the Graph. I've got Bitcoin, Monero, Litecoin, My fourth pick. Got to keep with, with the boring, I think. Not yet, Chat, not yet. So my fourth pick is going to be. I'm going to go with Arbitrum. So Arbitrum has been higher, I believe earlier this year it was close to the top 25. I think the reason I want to pick Arbitrum is I missed out on Ethereum with Chat picking that as the second choice. And I just want like a, a piece of that, like a layer two, um, something that's reliable, well known in the space. We've seen some of the other layer twos fall off. I'm curious where, for example, um, optimism. Where's optimism right now? Yeah, optimism's at 141. It'll be interesting to see what happens. But I think that maybe it's a situation where Arbitrum slips out of the top 100. But again, I wanted to have a little piece of the Ethereum since I missed out on that. So I'm gonna go with Arbitrum for pick number four. Ulf, over to you for your final two picks.
Speaker B: Okay, my final two picks, uh, I've got xrp. I've never actually like, I've never been a big XRP guy. Ah. Yeah. And that's been a big mistake I think. So I'm finally going. Even though I'm not necessarily adding to my portfolio in real life, I probably should because this uh, you know, XRP did have its moment and uh, in the last year, you can see right here around whatever date this was, July, in July. Um, you know, I had a solid run up there. Obviously here we are like lots of the other altcoin charts, it's lower now than it was a year ago. So at the end of the day this chart doesn't look great but did have its solid run up. And the reasons are, you know, I think like the way most people look at xrp, it's kind of like the, the crypto token of the, the banking sector. Right. And so also when we think about regulatory, um, you know, XRP could have its moment still to come on that side of things, still could have big investors come in more on the um, you know, the sort of in the investor side of things. The big, the big investment could come into XRP and it's got staying power. It's been here a long time. It's number five on the charts. So I think it's uh, one of my safer plays. And, uh, yeah, going with XRP for number four, for number five, also a coin I've never owned personally, but I'm gonna go with Tron trx. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. So you know why? Because I was doing some research, and Tron, actually, during a lot of the crashes that have happened, this is kind of one of my hedge coins because it's actually done pretty good when there's been, uh, big, uh, downturns. It has not crashed like the other tokens. And look at, I mean, Tron is. Tron is having a moment, is doing good. And the other reason why is it's kind of like Asia's crypto. You know, it. Tron has a lot of traction, as far as I understand, in Asian markets. Um, and so, yeah, to me, Tron is one of my deflationary plays that maybe, uh, won't follow the market as similarly as a lot of other coins. And yeah, it's my fifth pick.
Speaker A: All right, well, my, my gut has been telling me to stay stable and the boring and the old picks, but I'm going to mix it up and I'm going to go on the complete other end for my final pick, and I'm going to go with Midnight. And Midnight was recently airdropped to many Cardano holders. And Charles Hoskinson has big plans for Midnight. And Charles is another person we've had as a guest on Show Me the Crypto before. What I like about the airdrop process is there's this thawing out period that's happening. And so I believe it's. It's four different thaws that Midnight M is going through where you get part of an allocation within, uh, a few months and you get a randomized day. And so it's not one of these where everyone gets airdropped the token, and then all of a sudden we're seeing just crazy.
Speaker B: Yeah, I got the unlock on the same day or something, and then everyone
Speaker A: sells off and the price crashes. So if we look at it, I mean, it's had a few dips in the, like, week it's been around. But I just think it's interesting. I haven't done a ton of research into Midnight, but if we look at Cardano, Cardano has been a mainstay in the top 15 top 10 cryptos for the last several years. Charles is an OG. Some people love him, some people hate him. Right. He's a, uh, he's a polarizing figure in this space, but he's someone who's incredibly knowledgeable and my understanding is that Midnight has a certain level of interoperability with other chains as well. And so, like I say, for these reasons, my limited knowledge on it, but I just like the way that they're doing this thawing out period for the airdrop as well. And it's polar opposite to the rest of my picks. And I just want to go against all my gut instincts because it has led me to.03 the first few years. So I'm going with Midnight for those picks. So I will update, um, chat on this. All right, chat. So we had picks after you. You picked Avalanche and the graph. I picked Arbitrum, off picked xrp, then off picked Tron. I picked Midnight. And the final pick is on. You
Speaker C: got it. Final pick time. All right, let's make it a good one. I think for that last pick, we'll go with something a little different. Let's say we pick Cosmos. Adam, it's got that whole interoperability angle, which could be pretty interesting down the line. So there we go. Cosmos rounds out the team.
Speaker A: There we go. What's your prediction? I think we're both going to lose to freaking chatgpt, aren't we?
Speaker B: Uh, you know what? I think it's a crapshoot. And, uh, yeah, I think you could toss, uh, a dart and they're all we've all got. Let's put this right. I think we got equal chances here.
Speaker A: Yeah, I think you're right. I think you're right. As for next year coming up. Thanks, by the way, anyone who stuck through this episode this long, hearing us rambling, just as you can tell, we're a little bit rusty on. Haven't been following the market as close. Life has been busy. But it also gives you a bit of a deeper appreciation, I think, for certain aspects of the industry when you step away for a little while. I don't know all of, uh. I'm speaking off the cuff here. I don't know if we have solidified plans. We got up to 149 episodes ready for that 1/50 and hoping for a big guest. We've got a couple that are potentially in the pipeline. I don't anticipate we will do a ton of episodes in 2026, but if the right guests approach us, if we get some yeses on our requests, we might get through some more episodes because we've always had a blast doing these. Ulf, any final thoughts for what next year might hold?
Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, when it comes to show me the crypto, you know, we've always done this. It's a labor of love for us, and I think we want to proceed as our, uh, you know, when we're excited for it. And I think part of that, unfortunately, or fortunately, you know, it comes with the territory of the markets and what's going on in crypto. And when crypto is exciting, we're excited, right? And it's exciting to have guests on and guests are excited. Um, when things are kind of stale and they're moving sideways or they're going downhill, it's harder to get people's interest. And admittedly, harder for us, too. So we'll see how things play out. But at the end of the day, show me the crypto isn't going away. We're just going to take it one day at a time right now and enjoy life at the same time. And, hey, we recommend you do that as well. Get outside, touch some grass or some snow if you're up in Canada or somewhere cold. And, uh, enjoy the holidays.
Speaker A: That's right. Happy holidays, everyone. And we promise one thing. Even if you don't see us Too much in 2026, you'll see us next December, because I'm going to turn this into one and three, get my first.
Speaker B: Uh, we'll probably both lose. And Chat GPT will take it from us is what's going to happen.
Speaker A: Thank you, everyone, for watching. Happy New Year. We'll catch you on the next episode.
