Why it scores where it does

Climate Rising ranks #1384 on The B2B Podcast Index with a substance score of 70.0 out of 100, scored across 1 recent episode. It scores highest on specificity & evidence and insight density. The episode earns credit for multiple specific figures - payload specs, wind conditions during tests, named utilities and counties, and striking carbon statistics - though key claims like the $300 billion annual cost figure go unsourced and the carbon percentages are hedged with 'as best we can determine.'

The five-dimension breakdown

Averaged across 1 recently scored episode, with cited evidence.

Insight Density

15.0 / 20

The episode has genuine high-value data points buried in substantial product explanation and filler, including the striking 2.7%/89% ignition stat and the wildfire-as-carbon-emitter framing, but large portions are scene-setting and promotional rather than dense with novel claims.

“only 2.7% of ignitions cause 89% of structural loss and consume 61% of suppression budget”

“the 2020 wildfire season in California undid all greenhouse gas emissions progress over the preceding two decades”

Originality

13.0 / 20

The reframing of wildfire suppression as a carbon mitigation play rather than pure adaptation is the episode's most genuinely fresh idea, and fire intensity management via selective cooling is a non-obvious concept; most other content follows a straightforward startup-pitch narrative without contrarian argumentation.

“the country of wildfire would rank second only to China in terms of global emissions”

“we seek to provide fire managers with the ability to manage fire intensity in real time and with, uh, the confidence of being able to shut, uh, down the fire at any time if it becomes beyond a safe threshold”

Guest Caliber

15.0 / 20

Maxwell Brody is a genuine practitioner building real hardware in the space with named utility and DOD partnerships and live demos, but Rain is still in demonstration phase rather than deployed at operational scale, and his prior background is EdTech rather than aviation, fire, or defense.

“in 2025 we brought the autonomous aircraft running our software out to San Bernardino county in partnership with the fire chief there, Chief Dan Munsey, as well as Pacific Gas and Electric”

“We work very closely with Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin on the Blackhawk platform aircraft”

Specificity & Evidence

17.0 / 20

The episode earns credit for multiple specific figures - payload specs, wind conditions during tests, named utilities and counties, and striking carbon statistics - though key claims like the $300 billion annual cost figure go unsourced and the carbon percentages are hedged with 'as best we can determine.'

“Black Hawk helicopters, which weigh about 20,000 pounds and can carry about 9,000 pounds worth of payload capacity”

“we picked up water in 30 knot wind conditions, we dropped water in 20 knot wind conditions”

Conversational Craft

10.0 / 20

The co-host is an operating partner at the episode's disclosed investor in Rain, which structurally prevents genuine adversarial follow-up; questions are mostly scene-setting or classic PR softballs with no pushback on unverified statistics, regulatory hurdles, or the feasibility of pre-positioning at scale.

“what keeps you up at night?”

“where would you recommend folks looking for ideas, whether it be podcasts or conferences or magazines”

What listeners say on Apple Podcasts

★★★★
Don't let guests run on
I highly value the information in podcasts prepared for Climate Rising. My only complaint is that some guests freely talk for long periods of time without interruption. These guests will speak fast and without pause. The podcast can then sound more like a commercial for the guest than a teaching and learning experience. A bit more interaction please.

Important and Impactful!
It’s obvious Mike puts extraordinary effort in covering salient topics and finding guests that are authentic and truly care about being a positive force in this world - the insights they bring to bear are still mind-blowing every. single. time.
