Sam, the host of Breaking B2B, presents a focused AI SEO playbook built from 50+ active SaaS client experiments. Rather than broad content strategies, the approach concentrates on three high-intent page types: competitor alternatives pages (e.g., 'best Zendesk alternatives'), category listicles ('best proposal software'), and vertical-specific landing pages for industries and solutions. These pages rank quickly because they target buyers actively evaluating vendors - not casual researchers. AI overviews have decimated informational content ('how to build KPIs'), making comparison and listicle formats critical for both Google rankings and ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity recommendations. The strategy extends beyond on-site SEO: external listicle placements (getting featured in third-party roundups) and backlinks drive brand mentions in AI tools and boost organic visibility. Real examples include Verify Treatment jumping from outbound-dependent to 26 organic inbound demos monthly, and Prosperity Behavioral Health reaching a dozen qualified leads monthly after six months of foundational work. Timeline expectations range from 30 - 60 days if your site already has structure, to six months if you're starting from near-zero content. Sam emphasizes that without proper website UX, social proof, case studies, and clear positioning, traffic alone won't convert.

Key takeaways

  • →Build three core page types - competitor alternatives, category listicles, and vertical/solution landing pages - rather than top-funnel content, because AI overviews have commoditized informational queries.
  • →Competitor comparison pages rank fastest and generate high-intent buyers because searchers are already evaluating vendors, often frustrated with current tools.
  • →External listicle placements (getting featured in third-party roundups) deliver three wins simultaneously: backlinks for Google, brand mentions for AI tools, and direct demo bookings.
  • →Results timelines depend entirely on existing site structure: 30 - 60 days if you have baseline content and pages; six months if you're starting with a thin website requiring foundational UX and positioning work.
  • →Off-page strategy (listicle placements and backlinks) is critical for AI tool recommendations, since ChatGPT and Claude pull from brand mentions and trusted external sources, not just on-site SEO.

Questions this episode answers

What three types of pages should a SaaS company build for AI SEO?

Competitor and comparison pages (e.g., 'best Zendesk alternatives'), listicle articles within your category (e.g., 'best proposal software'), and dedicated landing pages for each industry, solution, feature set, and ICP you serve.

Why are top-funnel informational articles no longer effective for SaaS SEO?

AI overviews in Google and LLMs like ChatGPT answer informational queries directly (e.g., 'how to build KPIs'), so users get instant answers without clicking through to brand websites, making comparison and vendor-evaluation content the only effective format.

How long does it take to see results from an AI SEO strategy?

If your site already has basic structure and content, 30 - 60 days; if starting from near-zero content, expect six months of foundational work (site architecture, UX, pages, social proof) before ranking and organic leads flow.

What is the difference between a backlink and a listicle placement, and why does it matter?

A backlink is a do-follow link from another site to yours (boosts Google rankings); a listicle placement is getting your tool featured in a third-party roundup article (generates backlink, brand mention in AI tools, and potential direct traffic).

What real-world SaaS companies saw rapid results from this AI SEO strategy?

Verify Treatment moved from outbound-dependent to 26 organic inbound demos monthly within 30 days; RB2B, Proposify, and Fibler are featured in AI overviews; Prosperity Behavioral Health grew from zero organic leads to a dozen+ monthly qualified leads.

Our reviewer’s read on each dimension, with quotes from the episode.

Insight Density

8 / 20

The episode offers a concrete three-page-type framework and a useful point that AI overviews have hollowed out top-funnel informational content, but the core advice - build comparison pages, earn backlinks, create ICP landing pages - is standard SEO practice relabelled for the AI search era. Roughly a third of the runtime is agency promotion, further diluting usable insight per minute.

AI search and LLMs have really blown out the top funnel, the informational based queries. Most of the times they just get answered for you instantly.
you actually get three hits in one. With the backlink you get a boost for Google Organic search. With the brand mention you get visibility in AI Tools.

Originality

6 / 20

The AI search framing is timely but the underlying strategy - bottom-of-funnel comparison content, ICP landing pages, backlink outreach - is entirely conventional SEO doctrine. There is no first-principles argument or contrarian claim; the episode repackages existing playbooks with new vocabulary (LLMs, AI overviews) rather than surfacing genuinely fresh thinking.

the majority of content we publish for our clients, that's printing demos like crazy, is one of these three types of pages
Think of it a bit like fishing rather than one line in the water, this helps you build multiple lines in the water as if you were running a fishing contest

Guest Caliber

5 / 20

This is a solo monologue by an agency founder with a reported book of 50+ SaaS clients - a legitimate practitioner but not an operator who has built and scaled a SaaS at meaningful revenue. There is no guest, so caliber is entirely limited to the host's agency perspective, which is inherently promotional.

Specificity & Evidence

12 / 20

The episode earns credit for naming real clients (RB2B, Proposify, Verify Treatment, Adlib, Prosperity Behavioral Health), citing specific results (26+ inbound demos in 30 days; 12+ leads/month at $150K - $200K ACV; six-month ramp for a thin-site client), and detailing exact page structure elements. These are cherry-picked wins from the host's own agency, so independent verification is impossible, but the granularity is above average for this format.

They went from zero organic inbound leads to a dozen plus per month. They have a big average deal size from 150 to 200k.

Conversational Craft

3 / 20

This is an uninterrupted solo monologue with zero dialogue, no interviewer, no push-back, and no follow-up questions. Three distinct mid-roll agency pitches further fragment the content. There is nothing to evaluate in terms of host questioning craft or productive disagreement because no conversation exists.

Speaker A: If I had to blow up a SaaS, I'd use this one stupid, simple AI SEO strategy. Because look, we're helping 50 plus active SaaS companies with AI search right now. Companies like RB2B, Fibla, uh, Proposify, and many, many more. And out of all the experiments that we've run to see what works best, nothing drives demos, leads and signups as quick as the strategy I'm about to show you does. It's what took one of our clients verify treatment from relying on outbound sales to 26 plus organic inbound demos within days, all without them writing one single top funnel article. Uh, so in this video, I'm going to walk you through every step of this AI SEO strategy so you can copy and paste it for your own company and drive leads and revenue as quick as possible. Let's get into it. All right, so the way this strategy works is you basically only build three core types of pages. And I don't mean just three blog articles, because you'll build plenty of each over time. But the majority of content we publish for our clients, that's printing demos like crazy, is one of these three types of pages, usually. So the first type of page is competitor and comparison pages. And this is basically stacking up your software against a tool or platform that your target customer is already familiar with. And there's a bunch of ways your target customers could search for this. It could be your competitor's name and the word alternatives. It could be your competitor's name and pricing. It could be your competitor's name and reviews. It could be your competitor directly versus yourself. Or it could even be one competitor versus another competitor of yours and then versus yourself. And why do we recommend starting for these competitor and comparison type, money keywords and money prompts, or someone that's stacking up a couple competitors together or looking for alternatives of one of your close, fierce competitors. They're not searching for this on Google or an AI tool for fun. The chances are they have some decent buying intents. Maybe they're frustrated and looking to move away from their incumbent provider. Uh, maybe the pricing went too high per seat. Maybe they're lacking features they need. Maybe they just got acquired and the customer success and support went downhill. Or maybe there's another reason. Or perhaps they're in that evaluation stage where they're weighing up, um, a bunch of vendors like yourself. And this is your chance to really position your software as the right choice, backed by your customer research where you outshine the competitors and where you're a really strong fit. And like I say, the beauty of these pages is they have really strong buying intent and they're often really low keyword difficulty. So you can often publish these pages and see them rank as is days. And as a live example of this, if I search for the best warmly alternatives in the Google AI overviews I can see our client RB2B recommended here. Uh top and likewise if I search on chat GBT for Panda Doc alternatives here I can see our client proposify in the proposal software space. Again recommended top here and likewise if I search for Zen ABM alternatives I can see our client Fiddler recommended in AI overviews and also top of Google Organic search here and as a quick idea of how these are usually formatted so you usually have the money keyword in in the URL. So for the ZenABM alternatives example it's Fib co blog ZenABM alternatives you have the money keyword in the H1 so 7 best Zen ABM alternatives or B2B LinkedIn marketing in 2026 we do something called bottom line up front. So we serve quick summary of what the article is about and then a mini comparison table that AI search often and LLMs often pick up, dishing ourselves as the top option and who it's best for. Then we do a social proof why trust us section with a customer quote testimonial video review. Then we talk about what is Zen ABM in this case. Then we do a full comparison table with each tool, each platform, who it's best for, core strength, good fit, poor fit, G2 rating and pricing position ourselves as number one backed by customer research and then we go into a full deep dive comparison of all the tools with screenshots, visuals and a detailed breakdown. By the way, if you want SEO and AI search fully taken care of for your SaaS without having to do the research, strategy and execution your side Grab a call with our team today over at breaking b2b.com or hit the first link in the description below and on that call we'll run through exactly how you can get started and if we can drive pipeline quick as 90 days for your SaaS with SEO and AI search. All right, back to the episode. Now the second page type is your own listicle article and this is typically evaluating the best tools, platforms, software within the category or niche that you're playing within. And you might think, Sam, why the heck should I build these pages on our own website? It's important because it's going to attract dream clients that are actively seeking out Software tools or platforms like yours. And when they're asking tools like ChatGPT, Claude Perplexity, AI overviews, etc, show me the best XYZ platform software or tool often list goal based articles are ah, where they pull from and they're important to build because it's a big part of how you get named next to the competitors that your dream clients are already familiar with. And there's a similar process to ranking on Google Organic too. And a third type of page is landing pages for all the main industries, solutions, features you provide, ICPs and verticals that you serve. So rather than just one page saying you serve everyone and a mass dump of features and industries that you help, you build, a dedicated page for each industry that you serve, uh, best each ICP that you're really well suited for, different verticals that you're helping, feature sets and more. Think of it a bit like fishing rather than one line in the water, this helps you build multiple lines in the water as if you were running a fishing contest. Why have one chance of winning when you can have hundreds of lines in there attracting all those big fish actively seeking out solutions like yours. But instead of fish it can attract those dream clients that are actively seeking out solutions like yours. And the reason these pages make sense is they line up with the way people search, especially as folks use AI tools more and more they're going to search for their specific requirement, maybe list out the industry they're within and maybe details about their use case. So breaking that down into separate well structured pages is going to give you a much better chance to attract that inbound prospect and Verify Treatment, who I mentioned earlier, is one of the best examples of these things. Three core money pages in practice. So they provide insurance verification for behavioral health providers. So as you can imagine it's quite a targeted niche and their buyers are searching for something very specific. And the mix that took them from relying on outbound sales to driving 26/ organic inbound demos monthly was a mix of all these pages we've mentioned. So list competitor pages and landing pages all sharing the specific solutions they provide, nailing down their positioning, the problems they solve and where they're a strong fit against their competitors. And of course all all backed by customer research, leveraging sales calls and customer success calls to make sure they not only rank and get recommended in AI search, but also resonates with their dream customers. And as a live example, if I search health insurance verification software, we can see Verify Treatment ranking top here with their ah, listicle. Now the thing that often surprises people is how few of these pages you actually need to start driving inbound leads, demos and signups for your SaaS. For each page type it could be as few as 10 to 20 terms with a dedicated page for each one and a target customer. Customer that's looking to decide on a vendor, uh, this week can only run so many searches before they decide on a solution. And in most cases the more Top funnel More informational based super super long form articles often get blown out by AI overviews and simply aren't as effective as they used to be. And as an example, if I look for something informational based here, like I've typed in how to build KPIs for sales, these type of searches are very rarely giving recommendations to products or software. Instead you're getting an instant answer above the fold here, Google's AI overview giving you the actual answer that you need, meaning you don't actually have to check out a brand or click through to their website. So AI search and LLMs have really blown out the top funnel, the informational based queries. Most of the times they just get answered for you instantly. Which is exactly why I'm suggesting these page formats. Because this is the type of content that's actually going to get you recommended in front of your dream customers on LLMs and Google. And it's all backed by what works across our 50 plus active SaaS customers. By the way, if you lack the time or resource to run this strategy in house, why not grab a call with our team Today over at Breaking B2B.com we can look into exactly where you're at with AI SEO today. Work out if a strategy like this actually makes sense and if so, run the full system for you to drive pipeline and revenue as quick as 90 days with AI SEO, head over to breaking b2b.com we'll hit the first link in the description below right back to the video. So those three types of pages get you ranking, but they might not get you consistently recommended on AI tools alone. Google Organic rankings often come from building the right type of page, the right type of content to serve the user's intent, nailing technical SEO and then earning backlinks. ChatGPT and AI tools work a little bit differently though. SEO sets the foundation and is a big piece of the puzzle, but they also go off brand recommendations. So how often your brand is mentioned and recommended on different and trusted sources across the web. The best example I've seen here is from a client of ours called Adlib. They run a Programmatic media buying platform. Before we started, their founder, uh, Mike told me they were showing up in search results, but only through his work on Reddit and their G profile, their own website, so their own asset didn't actually show up for anything. And this is pretty funny because it's actually the opposite problem that most SaaS companies we talk to have. Usually they'll have a website that ranks somewhat okay here and there, but uh, no trusted sources across the web are really mentioning them. Whereas Ad Lib did have other people talking about them, but their own website didn't really rank or get recommended. But to really crush AI SEO, get consistently recommended on ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and more, you gotta do both growth. So the main two things we focus on off of your website are earning external listicle and roundup placements as well as backlinks. A backlink essentially where another website links back to yours with a do follow link. And Google often sees this as a trust signal. A list go placement is getting your tool, platform or software featured in somebody else's roundup, reviewing tools like yours, and here's an example here of where our team outreached in this case to Cleverly's article reviewing the best marketing attribution software of 2026. And you can see we got Fibler, our client, a top top three placement within their list through our manual outreach. And you'll see it has a screenshot of their platform, talks about their key features, who fib is a good fit for, and mentions their pricing. This is solid for classic SEO, as we've got the backlink to the Fibler site and we've got the brand mention and we're talking about their positioning and that can all be pulled into both AI tools and Google search, uh, when folks are uh, in market and looking for the best marketing attribution software. If I had to double down on one of these strategies, I definitely go for the external listicle placement. I look for the external articles that are consistently cited and pulled from in tools like ChatGPT, Claude and similar. And in the same vein, the ones that are ranking super well on Google Organic Search and then run targeted outreach to get a top three placement in their lists. Because with this strategy you actually get three hits in one. With the backlink you get a boost for Google Organic search. With the brand mention you get visibility in AI Tools. Plus, if you can get a top three placement in their list, when someone sees you in the top the top three, they might go direct to your website and book a demo or sign up for your product there and then. Now the question I get asked more than any other is how long does this take to pay off? And it depends almost entirely on what's on your website before you start and if your website already has authority from previously earning backlinks or brand mentions. And like I say, Verified Treatment is probably one of the quickest SaaS companies we've seen this work. They started ranking within days of us publishing these types of pages and went from outbound sales to 26 plus inbound organic demos after the first the first 30 days. But they did have a basic foundation of some content and pages structured on the website before we got started, meaning we could get to work quickly on the money pages and off page strategies we've just walked through now. Prosperity. Behavioral Health was actually the opposite because their results took six months. They sell niche financial software and services to behavioral health companies and when we started AI SEO work for them, their website was super thin. They'd never done SEO before. Their site actually only had a few pages pages, no service pages, no industry pages, no blog, no articles and no results sharing what they'd achieved for other customers. And they weren't getting any inbound organic leads at all. So the first three months was the boring foundational work that had to happen. We nailed down their money keywords and prompts to attract high intent buyers seeking out solutions like theirs. We built the right types of service pages, the right types of landing pages, rebuilt the navigation and structure of the site along with fully building out the blog blog plus improving the website user experience interface, clearly showing social proof, case studies, client results and more. They're making it super easy for folks on the website to access the information they need, check results and grab a call with the sales team. And none of these strategies or tactics get you ranking alone. But without these foundations on place, there's no point sending a bunch of target customers to the site. And once all this work was done and these pages were built out, we began the actual SEO work. And it took three more months and then the leads started started flowing. They went from zero organic inbound leads to a dozen plus per month. They have a big average deal size from 150 to 200k. So up to 12 solid leads per month from AI SEO alone is huge for their sales team and revenue goals. In fact, their VP of marketing told me his sales guy thought they were paying for ads inside of ChatGPT, all because prospects kept seeing them recommended there when in fact it all came from our uh, AI SEO work. So put these two next to each other and you've got your answer. If you've already got comparison pages, list, go articles, solution and all the type of landing pages we've run through, you might even be closer to 30 to 60 days to seeing results than 90. If your website starting with just a few pages, then with the right strategy building the foundation, it will likely be around six months before you start ranking. Get recommended and start driving inbound leads.
