Blockchain Insider Podcast by 11:FS ranks #86 on The B2B Podcast Index with a substance score of 84.0 out of 100, scored across 1 recent episode. It scores highest on guest caliber and originality. Balaji Srinivasan is a rare combination of deep builder credibility (CTO of Coinbase, GP at a16z) and original public intellectual output; he has genuinely done the thing at scale. Catherine Gu as Head of CBDC and Protocols at Visa brings real institutional practitioner perspective. The host is a competent generalist but adds less weight.
Averaged across 1 recently scored episode, with cited evidence.
Balaji's sections are genuinely dense with structured ideas - his 'super bitcoinization' framework, the decentralization bus-number concept, and the AI/crypto interplay list all contain non-obvious claims. However, the first third of the episode is a meandering recap of prior predictions, and the payments discussion drifts into generalities, pulling the overall density down.
“blockchains are good for payments that are very large, very small, very fast, very international, very automated, very transparent, or very gray”
“super bitcoinization of uh, 5% a month for 10 years”
Several frameworks here are genuinely Balaji's own and non-recycled: the descending/ascending world reframe, the quantification of decentralization via bus numbers, the AI/crypto duality list, and 'polytheistic AGI' vs 'monotheistic AGI' are all fresh. However, much of the Bitcoin macro bull case and the network state material is Balaji repeating well-documented prior positions rather than developing new thinking live.
“I actually somewhat disagree with the framework of like uh, you know, developed world and developing world. I think of it now as the descending world and the ascending world”
“AI creates new authorities. Crypto decentralizes them. So entire concept of AGI, like one sort of, you know, superhuman godlike intelligence, is kind of monotheistic AGI. But it was crypto, you'd get a bunch of them”
Balaji Srinivasan is a rare combination of deep builder credibility (CTO of Coinbase, GP at a16z) and original public intellectual output; he has genuinely done the thing at scale. Catherine Gu as Head of CBDC and Protocols at Visa brings real institutional practitioner perspective. The host is a competent generalist but adds less weight.
“I'm the former CTO of Coinbase, former general partner at Anderson Horowitz, angel investor in a bunch of companies both in the space and in other spaces”
“head of CBDC and protocols at Visa”
There are concrete anchors - the 2009 Facebook like-button date, the Brave ICO scale and mechanics, SingPass, ERC-4337, PIX, Drex, Societe Generale's stablecoin, Project Guardian - but Balaji's macro claims (global currency depreciation, crowdfunding list, AI training costs) are asserted without named data sources, and the AI/crypto list in the second half is almost entirely conceptual without measurable evidence.
“The like button was actually a relatively late development in the Internet... 2009. Okay. That's five years after Facebook launched actually”
“the Brave ICO almost six, seven years ago, that was tens of millions of dollars where people were sending essentially wires or, uh, like Ethereum from Japan, from Turkey”
Catherine lands a few genuinely good follow-ups - pushing on the India stack worldview, the network state/blockchain governance nexus, and the AI/blockchain integration question - but neither host challenges Balaji's large macro claims or his more speculative assertions. Balaji is permitted to run very long, uninterrupted monologues, and Mauricio frequently editorialises rather than probing.
“Would you put on a similar bet kind of to what you have done? And if so, what is the odds of you thinking about the USD versus the bitcoin?”
“Do you still hold that worldview, I guess, for India in its development?”
