The Positive Polarity Podcast ranks #2546 on The B2B Podcast Index with a substance score of 64.0 out of 100, scored across 1 recent episode. It scores highest on guest caliber and specificity & evidence. Reed is a genuine 20-year operator who built a real global security franchisor at meaningful scale, which earns credibility; however, he is visibly pivoting toward content, coaching, and thought-leadership (books, new podcast, philanthropic framing), which dilutes his practitioner edge during the conversation.
Averaged across 1 recently scored episode, with cited evidence.
The episode has occasional pockets of actionable content - the schedule audit framework, franchise economics for Filter Go, and the 'make statements into questions' leadership tactic - but these are buried under extended motivational padding, comfort-zone platitudes, and the host's repeated self-promotion. The useful-to-filler ratio is low for a 47-minute runtime.
“I don't give opportunity, you take it. Because if I give opportunity, they feel entitled and they're going to try to earn it instead of trying to get strong enough to take it.”
“I have an audit of my schedule I do every week, and I determine, okay, where am I required, where am I needed, and where am I not needed?”
The 'leading self → others → organization' ladder is firmly John Maxwell territory, 'progress over perfection' is ubiquitous, and the McDonald's drive-through anecdote is a well-worn innovation story; the 'make statements into questions' reframe and the 'pick something worth knowing, not something you know' heuristic offer mild freshness but don't constitute first-principles thinking.
“I always maintain curiosity to say the answers provided are not the only answers. Right. It's not just A, B, C and D.”
“anytime you're going to make it a statement to an employee, make a question, uh, frame it in a question”
Reed is a genuine 20-year operator who built a real global security franchisor at meaningful scale, which earns credibility; however, he is visibly pivoting toward content, coaching, and thought-leadership (books, new podcast, philanthropic framing), which dilutes his practitioner edge during the conversation.
“We're a global franchisor of security services. So we have physical security officers in 48 states, nine countries.”
“I have 8,500 people in my organization.”
The Filter Go franchise unit economics are genuinely concrete (cost-per-install, contract value, territory price, hours-to-income math), but broader claims - Kodak inventing the digital camera, the $250B security industry size, McDonald's 90-second benchmark - are stated without sourcing, and much of the leadership content is abstract.
“for $30, we'll change your air filter. You make about $20 an install”
“our average contract's 150 bucks a quarter. Or 600 a year”
The host relies almost entirely on generic open-ended prompts ('what was that journey like for you,' 'what advice do you give people'), interrupts with his own book promotion multiple times, and responds to substantive claims with 'wow' and 'that's awesome' rather than follow-up questions; there is zero pushback or productive challenge throughout the episode.
“Wow, that's pretty cool, I tell you.”
“That's awesome. Hey, Reid, one last question before I let you go.”

Wow! What a great host. Dave is well prepared, thoughtful, and actively listening throughout the conversation. His questions were always nested in his own thoughts and additions and flowed naturally from the conversation. I can see how he has been very successful with his podcast and business!
