With 54% of founders reporting burnout according to the 2025 Sifted survey, Cary Jack argues that grinding and hustling relentlessly is not a prerequisite for business success - it's a choice that often leads to a high net worth paired with a low quality of life. Drawing from his own burnout experience building an innovative tech algorithm in New York City, Jack presents the Soul Mapping System as a systematic approach to harmonizing ambition and well-being through 10 key life alignments: Selfless Service, Optimized Health, Unplugged Digitally, Loving Relationships, Mindful Spirituality, Abundance Financially, Personal Development, Passionate Hobbies, Impactful Work, and Nature Connection. He introduces the Blissful Balancer, an analog fridge magnet tool for tracking daily action tasks across these areas. Jack emphasizes that recovery must be non-negotiable calendar time, not something that happens when things calm down. He also addresses the mental health crisis among workers (55% experiencing burnout per Eagle Hill Consulting) and warns that over-reliance on AI and technology-driven work without community connection exacerbates disconnection and stress. The episode is designed for entrepreneurs and high performers who recognize they're running on empty and need a structured reset.

Key takeaways

  • →Recovery time must be scheduled on your calendar as a non-negotiable commitment, not left to chance when things calm down, because entrepreneurs' calendars drive their priorities.
  • →Identify one task you do weekly that someone else could handle at 80% effectiveness and delegate it to reclaim your time and mental bandwidth.
  • →You cannot sustain high performance in isolation - you need a trusted network or community where you're honest about your real struggles and have genuine support.
  • →Creating from a love-based state of peace and purpose produces more valuable work and better serves customers than creating from fear-based anxiety and scarcity.
  • →The 10 alignments of the Soul Mapping System (Selfless Service, Optimized Health, Unplugged Digitally, Loving Relationships, Mindful Spirituality, Abundance, Personal Development, Passionate Hobbies, Impactful Work, Nature Connection) provide a framework to systematically measure and manage well-being alongside business ambition.

Questions this episode answers

What percentage of founders reported burnout in the last 12 months according to recent surveys?

According to the 2025 Sifted survey of over 227 entrepreneurs across 46 countries, 54% of founders reported burnout in the last 12 months, with 87% reporting at least one mental health issue, 50% reporting anxiety, and 46% reporting high stress.

What is the Soul Mapping System and what are its 10 alignments?

The Soul Mapping System is a framework for systematically harmonizing ambition and well-being across 10 key life areas: Selfless Service, Optimized Health, Unplugged Digitally, Loving Relationships, Mindful Spirituality, Abundance Financially, Personal Development, Passionate Hobbies, Impactful Work, and Nature Connection, tracked using the Blissful Balancer tool.

Why does recovery have to live on the calendar for entrepreneurs?

Recovery must be scheduled as non-negotiable calendar time because entrepreneurs' lives are driven by their calendars and things never calm down naturally - if rest only happens when things calm down, it will never happen for entrepreneurs.

What is the difference between creating from a fear-based state versus a love-based state?

Creating from fear, anxiety, and scarcity produces lower-quality work and doesn't serve customers as well, while creating from a love-based state focused on meaning and impact produces more valuable products and services that add genuine value to the marketplace.

What are the three questions entrepreneurs should ask themselves to address burnout?

First, identify one task you do weekly that someone else could handle at 80% effectiveness; second, imagine having a next free day and honestly evaluate what's actually stopping you from doing what you'd want; third, assess who in your life truly knows where you're struggling and if you have a trusted support network.

Insight Density

4 / 20

The episode is dominated by two full ad breaks, repeated self-promotion for the book and SaaS tool, and generic productivity platitudes. The only substantive content is a handful of cited statistics and three vague reflective questions, yielding extremely low signal-per-minute for a B2B operator.

recovery has to live on the calendar. Your recovery as a high performing entrepreneur has to live on the calendar. If rest happens, when things calm down, it's never going to happen.
when you're creating from a place of fear, that fear based state, anxiety, stress, overwhelm, lack, scarcity, you don't do your best work

Originality

3 / 20

Every idea presented - balance ambition with wellbeing, delegate tasks to 80% effectiveness, schedule rest, join a mastermind - is recycled entrepreneur-wellness content that has circulated for years. The 'SOUL MAP' acronym repackages these clichés with branding rather than new thinking.

The S stands for selfless service. The O unplugged or uh, the O Optimized health. The U unplugged digitally, the L loving relationship.
you can have an eight figure net worth in a two figure quality of life

Guest Caliber

3 / 20

This is a solo episode hosted by a self-described 'lifestyle entrepreneur, professional model, slash actor, biohacker and eco warrior.' There is no guest, and the host's demonstrated B2B operator experience is limited to a vague mention of a tech algorithm built with his brother that ended in burnout.

I'm your host, Carrie Jack, lifestyle entrepreneur, professional model, slash actor, biohacker and eco warrior striving to make a positive impact on this planet.
I was grinding my damn face off in New York City like a dog working 100 plus hour weeks

Specificity & Evidence

6 / 20

The episode cites two named surveys with some numerical detail (2025 Sifted survey, 227 entrepreneurs, 46 countries; Eagle Hill Consulting, November 2025), which is the strongest evidence present. However, every piece of prescriptive advice is abstract and unsupported by case studies, data on outcomes, or concrete business examples.

54% of founders reported burnout in the last 12 months according to the 2025 sifted survey. This is crazy. It surveyed over 227 entrepreneurs across 46 countries
in a recent survey by Eagle Hill Consulting, they surveyed, uh, in November 2025, a bunch of workers and 55% of U.S. employees said they were experiencing burnout

Conversational Craft

2 / 20

This is an uninterrupted monologue with no guest, no follow-up questions, no challenge of any claim, and two lengthy commercial breaks that fragment the content. The host's rhetorical structure is loose and repetitive, offering no discernible interviewing craft to evaluate.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Real quick. I, uh, want to interrupt your programming to tell you about our new book
I come to you again from someone who doesn't claim to be the guru of shit. Again, I'm just a reporter.

Episode notes

When was the last time you took a full day off? I mean a real one. No phone, no inbox, no peeking at your numbers while you pretend to watch a movie with your family. If you had to think about that for more than a few seconds, I want you to keep reading, because this one’s for you. In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I’m tackling a question that hits close to home for me: is burnout a requirement to succeed in business? Yes or no? If you know my story, you know I learned this the hard way. I was grinding my face off in New York City, working 100 plus hour weeks, chasing profit, status, and ego. My brother and I had built an innovative tech algorithm, and on paper things looked great. But it all caught up with me. I burnt out, and I was deeply unhappy and unfulfilled. So I’m not coming at this as some guru. I’m just a reporter sharing what’s working for me, so take what works and leave what doesn’t. Here’s why this matters right now. According to the 2025 Sifted survey of 227 entrepreneurs across 46 countries, 54% of founders reported burnout in the last 12 months.

Speaker A: Welcome everyone to the Happy Hustle podcast. I'm your host, Carrie Jack, lifestyle entrepreneur, professional model, slash actor, biohacker and eco warrior striving to make a positive impact on this planet. My goal is to inspire, educate and entertain you while reminding you to enjoy the journey, not just the destination. As you happy hustle for a life of passion and purpose. I am so grateful and humbled to be spending some time together today. Dive in. What is up, you beautiful happy hustlers out there? Carrie Jack here. And I hope you're having a freaking phenomenal day. Truly just enjoying this very moment right here and right now. And in this solo episode, we talk about the question that is, is burnout the hidden cost of building a business? Now, a lot of people believe that you have to hustle and grind your freaking face off in order to succeed, but I have a different approach and I have proven it to be effective. Now, does it take longer? Potentially. But will you be happier in the Hustle? Definitely. So we're going to talk about how you can actually avoid burnout and achieve this systematic harmonization of both ambition and well being throughout the process. I'm going to give you a specific framework and three things that you can do if you're running on fumes right now that can be this reset that will change the game for you. Okay? So if you get some value, share this with somebody who could also benefit. That's how we spread the message with more people and stay in the top 1% of the, uh, globally ranked podcast out there because of you. It's because you share it. So thank you so damn much. Now let's dive in. Without further ado to the Happy Hustle pod, 54% of founders reported burnout in the last 12 months according to the 2025 sifted survey. This is crazy. It surveyed over 227 entrepreneurs across 46 countries and found that 87% reported at least one mental health issue and anxiety around 50% and high stress around, um, 46%. And burnout was around 34%. So this is crazy. I'm going to break down the question. Is burnout a requirement to succeed in business? Yes or no. And I'm going to break down how, if it isn't. You could apply some of these key changes to Happy Hustle, your dream reality without burnout a part of the picture. What's up, y'? All? My name is Carrie Jack. I'm a lifestyle entrepreneur, author, founder of the Happy Hustle, and someone who burnt out. Uh, if you know my story at all you know that I was grinding my damn face off in New York City like a dog working 100 plus hour weeks, all for profit and success and ego and status and a lot of the drivers, uh, the American society deems most important. And I had a lot going for me with this innovative tech algorithm that we built, my brother and I. And um, unfortunately it all caught up with me and I freaking burnt out. I was so unhappy, so unfulfilled filled. And according to studies, most founders, 54% reported burnout in the last 12 months. Now that is kind of crazy to think about that. At least half of all entrepreneurs are struggling right now with mental health issues. Burnout, anxiety, stress. And it begs the question, is burnout the hidden cost of building a successful business or is there another way? And I want to break down, you know, just this question in detail and then ask you when was the last day that you actually took a full day off and didn't check your phone or inbox or your numbers? You know, if you haven't had a full day off or haven't mentally disconnected from your business, then this is a problem for you too. This is a self identifying question that I just want you to be honest with yourself and, and figure out. Maybe you are redlining right now and don't even know it. Uh, or maybe you do know it and you're like, I need freaking to find a solution. Because what I realized is, you know, you can have an eight figure net worth in a two figure quality of life. Happens, happens all the time. I've seen it. And I don't want that for you. I don't want that for me. Um, I come to you again from someone who doesn't claim to be the guru of shit. Again, I'm just a reporter. If here's some things that are working for me, take what works and leave what doesn't. But one of the things that works for me is applying the soul mapping system and measuring and managing myself in these 10 key areas of life. And now we have software that we have designed to help you manage and measure yourself in these key areas, providing you a real score on um, where you're at and again where you need to prioritize change. So the big shift that I'd want to make for you is just to be more intentional with how are you again, systematically harmonizing ambition and well being. The solution is the soul map and system. In my opinion, it's the best thing out there on the marketplace. I haven't found anything that better serves high performers and entrepreneurs to actually happy hustle their dream reality. The S stands for selfless service. The O unplugged or uh, the O Optimized health. The U unplugged digitally, the L loving relationship. So that's the soul part. The M mindful spirituality. The A abundance financially, the P personal development. P passionate hobbies. I impactful work, and then N nature connection. So this is your soul's map to the blissfully balanced promised land. And one of the key things that can help you actually win, both personally and professionally, is tracking yourself specific action tasks for each of these 10 alignments every day. Now, for example, we have our blissful balancer. This is our whiteboard fridge magnet that is analog. It just goes on your refrigerator. And you are able to then write down smart action tasks and then check off if you completed them. Yes or no. For example, optimized health. Did you move that ass and work out 30 minutes? Yes or no? Unplug digitally, did you not touch your phone in the first 20 minutes of your day? In the last 20 minutes of your day? Yes or no? Tracking and measuring where you are at in these different tasks is going to allow you to leverage the compound effect stacking habits daily, thus weekly, thus monthly, thus yearly, which ultimately makes up your reality. Right. So what I want to just kind of break down for you is burnout is much more common than we admit. Okay? This is something that not only founders are struggling with too, like workers. Also, in a recent survey by Eagle Hill Consulting, they surveyed, uh, in November 2025, a bunch of workers and 55% of U.S. employees said they were experiencing burnout. So statistically this isn't good. You know, I think with AI and the inundation of technology and people just getting heads down in front of a computer for hours on end talking to robots, this is only going to make it worse. I've seen it in business where people are disconnected from community and rich relationships and more connected to their chat GPT. Real quick, I want to share with you something that is helping me fall asleep faster, stay asleep in a deeper REM state, and wake up more refreshed and ready to happy hustle the day. And that is magnesium breakthrough. Let me tell you, this stuff is legit. It is the best magnesium supplement for sleep on the market, in my opinion. And it promotes balanced stress response where you feel more relaxed and at peace. You'll sleep faster and deeper. And it's really a key nutrient for healthy immune responses across the board. Plus, it provides an essential electrolyte to maintain healthy Rhythm and it's a key building block to strong bones. And you get the hookup for watching and listening to the happiest podcast, my friend. All you got to do is go to buyoptimizers.com happy that is B I O P T I M M I z e r s.com happy and you can save up to 32%. So check it out. And the best part, let me just tell you, they have a 365 day money back guarantee. So you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Just give it a try for yourself. All right, y'. All, now back to this episode. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Real quick. I, uh, want to interrupt your programming to tell you about our new book, the Happy hustle version 2.0. 10 alignments to avoid burnout and achieve blissful balance. I'm telling you, this book is live and it is on fire. We actually recently just hit number 39 on the USA Today National Best selling book list. That means out of every single book that was put out, we outsold all of them except 38 of them. And it's because this book is really designed to help you put the happy in your hustle. And if you're maybe feeling like you're overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, sacrificing your soul for a paycheck, not really feeling fulfilled, this book is for you. It is a systematic way to help you harmonize and ambition, yes, crushing it professionally, but also well being. That means personally as well. So finding that blissful balance will you. And we go over the soul mapping system and how you can actually implement it in your everyday reality. So if you want to get a copy, you can go to wherever books are sold. Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, you name it. Or you can go to thehappyhustle.com book and pick up a copy there and then redeem your actual receipt for over 350 doll worth of bonuses. We're talking like legit bonuses that can help you put the happy in your hustle in an expedited fashion. So pick up the book if you want to check it out and see what all the hype's about. Regardless, thanks so much for listening and watching it. And let's get back to this episode. And you know, they're Claude bots and all the different, you know, things that they can do with this technology. And I understand leveraging it to buy back time and to become more efficient and effective. I do. However, I do think it also is going to cost people. It's going to cause people mental health and Potentially more, um, physical health as well. So, and emotional health. You know, I think just sitting in front of your computer all day is not going to be, uh, advantageous for the long game. So what needs to happen? How do you shift? How are you gonna, you know, not burn out in the journey? Well, one key thing, and this is a golden nugget, this is a takeaway. I want you to just, you know, make sure that you deploy. If you take nothing else away from this, just take this one thing, and that is recovery has to live on the calendar. Your recovery as a high performing entrepreneur has to live on the calendar. If rest happens, when things calm down, it's never going to happen. Because as entrepreneurs, things never calm down. It's always different seasons, right? So you have to put on your calendar recovery that can't move, like a real hour, a real day, a real block of time where nobody can reach you, where you go to the Amalfi coast in Italy, or you go to Yellowstone national park with the family, or you go just for a walk on the beach or wherever you go, where you prioritize yourself, your own well being and your own recovery has to live on the calendar as an entrepreneur because we often live by our calendars. So your recovery needs to be there. Okay, so that is huge. The other thing, there's three questions I want you to ask yourself. So one, what's the one task that you keep doing that someone else could do to 80% effectiveness? The one task that will get you time back that you do every week that you know you shouldn't be doing. There's definitely something I know for me there's plenty of shit, but pick 1. Okay, 2. If you had a free day, ask yourself this question. If you had a free day tomorrow, what would you actually want to do with it and what is actually stopping you? Like maybe what you think is stopping you actually isn't stopping you. So think about what you would want to do with that free day that lives on the calendar and what is actually stopping you. And if there is actual real roadblocks, like, uh, you have to be available to your team for XYZ reason, well then create fail safe so that you can have that time for yourself. Okay? Reverse engineer that process. And then the third question I want you to ask is who in your life knows how you're actually doing? Like who knows where you're truly at? And if you're not telling anybody, like really where you're struggling and where you need support, that means you don't have a trusted network. And that means you're probably happy hustling, uh, or excuse me, hustling, not happy hustling in a silo. And you need a community. We have our Happy Hustle club, our high performing, exclusive community for male entrepreneurs who are crushing it largely professionally, but personally, um, you know, they have adversities. And so we focus on how do you crush it in both. And this is a trusted network. Everyone signs NDAs to be a part of it. It's again guys keeping it real with one another. We have our eight masterminds that they come to, so we have that in person touch point. And that makes a key difference that it's not just online but also offline. And so if you don't have that, if you have nobody who you're telling who really knows like your state, then that means you're probably not in a trusted network and you need to find yourself one. So what I want you to remember again in closing is that you didn't start your business to be exhausted by it. You didn't start your business to just have a high paying job that you're enslaved to. Right? You need to think about what is most important to you. For me, is the three freedoms. Creative time and financial freedom. I'm okay with the delayed time frame of quote unquote success in the traditional sense. Goals, money, you know, benchmarks, uh, assets, wealth accumulation. Like I have succumbed to the realization that the deadline often creates this false sense of urgency and overwhelm and anxiety that then we operate from as entrepreneurs. And what happens is when you're creating from a place of fear, that fear based state, anxiety, stress, overwhelm, lack, scarcity, you don't do your best work, you don't serve wholeheartedly to truly add value to your customers. And when you create from a place of a love based state, where you're really focused on creating something that is meaningful, that is impactful, that you know, has peace and joy and bliss and all the great buzzwords, right? Then your actual end result, that business, that product, that service will be so much more valuable to the marketplace. So my, my take is prioritizing well being and ambition in a systematic and harmonious way is the answer. That is what the Happy Hustle is all about. So you could check out happyhustle.com you can check out our website there with all the different resources. We have our book, our podcast, we have our courses, um, our freaking, uh, Happy Hustle club, our masterminds, it's all there. So realize like build it into your week.
