Business of Advice ranks #1381 on The B2B Podcast Index with a substance score of 70.0 out of 100, scored across 1 recent episode. It scores highest on guest caliber and specificity & evidence. Hardy is a credentialed organisational psychologist, genuine bestselling author, and active co-founder of a company that reportedly reached $12M ARR in year one - he has actually done the thing at some scale, not merely theorised. Slight deduction because his primary leverage is as a writer-coach rather than an operator who scaled a non-publishing business.
Averaged across 1 recently scored episode, with cited evidence.
The episode recaps Hardy's already-published book frameworks at a surface level, with limited time for genuinely novel claims per minute. The Gaurav/Seven Brews case study and the non-substitutability concept add real density, but the first 15+ minutes are biographical filler and the lightning round contributes almost nothing substantive.
“most people don't truly have a 10x goal. They may have a 10x aspiration, but it's not a 10x goal and they don't give themselves a short amount of time to do it”
“a goal properly set eliminates 99% of options”
The frameworks - Gap/Gain, 10x, Who Not How, Frame/Floor/Focus - are Hardy's own published constructs, giving them some proprietary flavour, but this episode is fundamentally a book-tour recap rather than new thinking. The non-substitutability concept and the systems-engineering framing of simplicity provide genuine freshness at the margins.
“scale and growth are two different games... a lot of entrepreneurs think that they can get to scale by solving for growth”
“Michael Porter... said that strategy is about escaping competition, not beating competition”
“I became the top writer on that platform as a PhD student... I was a professional author, like 12, 18 months later”
“in our first year we went from 0 to 12 million ARR... I still think we'll break 100 million annual revenue within the first three years”
The Gaurav/Seven Brews story is genuinely detailed - 26 Wingstops, $50M valuation, $500M target, 200 locations at $2M each, CFO poached from Little Caesars - and Hardy's own Medium.com path and scaling.com ARR figures add credibility. Deductions for several claims that stay vague ("national research" without methodology, "nearly all of them said yes") and the tech-company-targeting-10,000-schools anecdote which lacks any named company.
“he did the math and he said it will take me 200 locations to get to 500 million valuation... he ended up attracting the then sitting CFO of Little Caesars”
“in our first year we went from 0 to 12 million ARR. I think we probably could have gotten to 25 to 30”
The host sets up decent segues between frameworks and occasionally shares relevant anecdotes, but questions are almost universally leading and pre-answered ('the basic concept is... I know that way oversimplifies'), there is zero pushback or challenge to any of Hardy's claims, and the host's own stories frequently stall momentum rather than advancing the dialogue.
“I always say when I think about you, there's kind of four core, I would say principles or concepts that I think of”
“This may be, uh, unfair question or tough question to ask, but obviously so many people have applied this principle”
