Beyond Your Business · 2026-09-08 · 13 min
A mindset shift is often the first step toward building a business that can operate without you. Sometimes the biggest thing keeping your business dependent on you isn't your team, your systems, or your technology. It's the way you've trained the business to rely on you. If you're still the person making every important decision, solving every unexpected problem, stepping into client relationships, or answering questions your team should be able to handle, you've unintentionally created founder dependency. And changing that takes more than delegating a few tasks. In this episode, I'm talking about the founder mindset that has to change as your business grows and why moving from operator to owner means changing the way you respond when something needs to be done. Instead of asking, "How do I fix this?" we need to start asking different questions. What information is missing? What hasn't been documented? Where is decision-making authority unclear? What does someone else need to know so this problem doesn't automatically come back to me next time?
