A Modern Nonprofit Podcast ranks #2951 on The B2B Podcast Index with a substance score of 62.0 out of 100, scored across 1 recent episode. It scores highest on guest caliber and insight density. Tiffany Slater is a practicing HR consultant with genuine nonprofit client experience, which makes her relevant and credible, but she is a boutique service provider rather than a senior operator who has built or scaled a large organization; she speaks from advisory experience rather than from having done the thing at scale herself.
Averaged across 1 recently scored episode, with cited evidence.
There are a handful of genuinely useful operational ideas - the 'definition of done' framing, condensing job descriptions into 2 - 4 measurable goals, and monthly documented success-profile reviews - but the episode spends substantial airtime on standard management platitudes and meandering self-disclosure that dilutes the signal-to-noise ratio considerably.
“we have to get better at telling people what the definition of done is”
“every single position in this company has no more than four goals”
The 'people suck and it's our fault' framing is a catchy repackaging of classic leadership-accountability thinking, but nothing in the episode constitutes genuinely contrarian or first-principles reasoning; the SOPs-vs-autonomy tension is real but handled superficially, and the advice largely recycles standard HR orthodoxy.
“people suck and it's our fault as leaders”
“if all we needed was an SOP, we could all hire somebody in high school to do all the work”
Tiffany Slater is a practicing HR consultant with genuine nonprofit client experience, which makes her relevant and credible, but she is a boutique service provider rather than a senior operator who has built or scaled a large organization; she speaks from advisory experience rather than from having done the thing at scale herself.
“Tiffany is the founder and CEO of HR TaylorMade”
“a senior HR specialist that works actually with the charity CFO too and helps us navigate some really tough conversations”
The episode offers a few concrete illustrations - the printer-ordering scenario, the '75% of the time' claim, and the success-profile structure capped at four goals - but there are no named client outcomes, no dollar figures, no before/after metrics, and the 75% figure is stated as gut feel rather than data.
“I'm going to say about 75% of the time, people suck. And it's our fault”
“every single position in this company has no more than four goals something that we actually measuring into most of our team members only have two or three”
The host is an engaged practitioner who contributes genuine personal examples and surfaces the SOPs-vs-autonomy tension, but questions are mostly open and invitational rather than probing; there is no real pushback on unsupported claims and the conversation frequently drifts into mutual affirmation between colleagues.
“if a leader's listening and they're super frustrated today, which was why they clicked on this episode, what's one question they can ask themselves before blaming their people?”
“I have lots of questions I could ask. See, I think I just have Tiffany on these podcasts so I could just share all of my own personnel grievance”

As a newer founder of a growing nonprofit, I am so thankful for Tosha and her wisdom. Each episode is like attending a nonprofit workshop and I end it with my next to do item in mind. The guests offer helpful resources and insight into the many facets it takes to run a nonprofit and I am always encouraged to know that there ARE experts who can help with the issues we all face.

Love the range of topics and people interviewed. I do have an issue with the quality of the audio - makes it tough to hear sometimes
